The boom truck with the rope winch line is a line truck for electrical work. Many of the newer ones have rope winch lines rated at 50,000 lbs pull. Rope because they’re used to set poles and transformers etc in and around energized high voltage lines typically from 2400 volts up to 34,500 volts. You wouldn’t want steel line although we did have steel in the old days (retired lineman here). The thing you were asking about on the end of the boom is pole claws. They are used to grab a pole when it is standing upright to put it in a hole.
@Ethan Baker all types of companies have lube trucks. They just simply lube the machines. Grease fittings, fill with fuel, top of fluids. All types of construction.
I'm 62 retired 7 years ago. Built a heavy equipment repair business from a pickup truck to a full service shop and 5 service trucks. Sold it. Damn good money for a high school graduate. Welders are too stupid to be techs.
I’m in the music business and used to have the same 12V under the bed of an old motor home we traveled in. Used to take turns drivin it all night and had a spot in the carpet where we wedged the pedal to the floor. Had parachute rope to pull it off the floor if we hit traffic lol. Pulled a loaded 16ft trailer all over the country and got 11 mpg. She didn’t have much power but I never missed a show. Good times
The best way to win an auction is to wait till it gets to the last call on the item then start bidding, at the beginning is the lowball buyers that jack the price up till it's out of their range and some just like to bid, then the last call tells you if anyone wants to pay the asking price.
Looks to be a 5.9 12 valve all mechanical. Good old motors I believe she is going to be a good rig. The old 12 valves are a little weak being 4x4 it’s going to be slower but I’m sure it will be very reliable. Keep up the content.
@@MeltinMetalAnthony that’s awesome glad I could help. I think you’ll like the capability that comes with a 2 ton truck I know I’ll never go back. Planning on doing a walk around on mine and show improvements I’ve made and problems I’ve had hopefully give you some insight.
I have the same truck with an altec boom on it absolute dog around town 5th gear is 35-40 and 6th gear gets you up to 62 diwnhill with absolutely nothing on the truck can get more cars places but wouldn’t want to drive it anywhere far
Looks like a good setup. I'd be inclined to mount the welder with the face and leads coiled up into one of the front cabinets, what ever side is easier, the put some gasket around the cutout for the welder. Save from having to climb up and down that thing all the time. Shes a bit tall for me,but man does it look functional. Hope it works out for you, cant wait for the videos on it
Good job, I would have bought that truck too. The best part of buying older equipment is there is no emissions (EGR, DPF, DEF) to worry about. Then I believe that motor is all mechanical, only a few reasons why it would not start.
I am so glad the auctions in my area have gone to online only bidding. No more trying to understand some Porky Pig wanna be auctioneer. No more dealing with crowds. Items tend to sell for less. I think it is easer for people to remain logical at home rather than in person. That is a great looking truck. The video is about a year old, how has the truck worked out? It is always cool when an item you buy comes with items you can sell. It is like a rebate in a way.
Badass tank you bought there. Holy shit, that thing is a beast! I’ll be straight up brother... you are quite the inspiration. I actually started welding three weeks ago because of your videos. I bought a little 80 amp arc from the H.F. To tack weld for blacksmithing, but you opened up my horizons to do more. Now, after two weeks of burning holes in everything I touched, or sticking the rod like it’s a magnet; I can finally start a weld without too much of that. Haha, I’ll admit I’ve had a couple melt downs in the back yard, and I think I actually went full on super sayan at one point. 6011 is becoming my favourite rod because you have to think about what you’re doing. I feel like I could take a knapp with 7018 and it would work... if you can get it started. I feel like you have to tame 6011 and 7018 is just it’s beta cousin. Anyway, I bought a tombstone yesterday, so I can run 1/8 inch and maybe pick up some neighborhood fixes for some real world practice. Of course I watch IC weld because who doesn’t, but you’re more gritty like me, so I end up relating to your videos the most. Thanks again for the inspiration, and if you’re ever in Melbourne/Palm Bay area, hit me up.
That odd "rubbing noise" with the oil cap off may only be normal gear case noise on the Cummins. My old 12 valve scared the hell out of me when I popped that cap for the 1st time when it was running. 10 years later after much abuse (like 4500 rpm and 60psi) it's still the same.
Awesome rig I got myself my first service truck as far as working for myself at an auction in Florida and I love it, clean low milage reliable truck which I could not find up here in Maine
Sale tax... What a deal killer. I'm just an intense DIY repair/fabricator. I buy everything used from private sellers -- generators, power equipment, power sports equipment, tools, welders, sewing machines, appliances, and anything else I can get my hands on. I show cash and price negotiation starts at well under 30% of street retail. I don't bother with anyone other than motivated sellers. Of course, it helps to be able to fix/repair/fabricate stuff that's not in the best shape to start with. But, once I give something the once-over, it usually serves me very well. Getting ahead is a combination of making money and saving it...
Never really thought about auctions for some things. I do remember a buddy of mine though scored him self a nice pete for pretty cheap that started up his Owner OP life. Great video with your dad enjoyed it seemed like y'all had a good time! Cant wait to see the new ride on the channel! I'll miss Ol El Caracol
Im getting ready to have one in March. I got a lot of welding equipment and trailers and tractor a small camper trailer truck an a car gonna be all up for sale.
My boss had one of those trucks for hauling wood. It was a fucking beast amazing truck would do anything we threw at it. Wasn’t a 4x4 and it never got stuck can’t believe it see that thing getting stuck! It’s not a 5.9 it’s bigger but awsome video man you inspired me to start my own mobile business. Turned my 97 f350 into one a mobile rig and got myself a Lincoln weld and power and loving do my own stuff one day I’ll get a truck like that! Have a good one man

Cool video I shot a couple videos and bought some crap at that auction I was all over that service truck also I was concerned about the top speed since it wasn’t an overdrive trans but a cool truck
I swear you are in my head.... only this morning i was wondering. As i learn more and more i keep wondering about finally taking the leap and becoming self employed (and the whole way i got into fabrication was because i was made redundant where i worked before -and had planned to learn to weld and leave there too) But i worry incase i ever get made redundant in the future and dont have the money to just go out and buy a welder and van (in the UK) and more expensive tools. I already have a large collection of assorted tools, spanners, wrenches, grinder, drills, screwdrivers and things but i really need to save a couple of grand and get lucky and happen accross a nice genset at a auction and i always forget things like this exist
I hope you got your dream welder's truck. That was an impressive field of used equipment for auction. I suggest you get some acyclovir ointment for you lip sore
Please make a video of how you outfit the truck. I recently bought a f800 with an imt crane on it and I’d love to see how you set yours up. That’s a sweet truck you’ve got there.
Nice truck all your welding things can be mounted good price too Cummins engine too the mechanic part I'd not do anymore repairs if I don't have I use to do diesels in the 70s up to about mid 90s along with welding now I'm full-time welder no more repairs
Cool truck! I find it's hard to buy smaller items at auctions for a welding company because nobody knows retail prices and often pay 20% over it. Engine drive welders always go for high prices in my area! The amount of 10 year old ranger 250s that people bid $5k on is insane! I don't know exactly what lube equipment or mechanic work entails in this case, but I find it amusing that Anthony wants nothing to do with it.
It is hard work but great money I'm a mobile mechanic for heavy equipment
“Lube tech” would be for like a paving company. That the equipment is always on the ride. So, he would go around and service it all
