The #1 Reason Why You Should Use Apple Products

  • Get started with NordVPN today by visiting nordvpn.org/apple and use code apple to get 75% off a 3 year plan and an extra month for free.
    ________________________
Apple is known for having a user base that’s very loyal and enthusiastic about their products. But there is an equally enthusiastic hatred toward Apple from other people in the tech community, who have trouble understanding why anyone would choose Apple devices over their competitors. And in this video I’m going to give you the #1 reason why you should be using Apple products over anything else, and it’s a reason I think should be discussed a lot more often.
So what is the the #1 reason to use Apple products? Could it be their beautiful industrial design? Their approachable user interface? Their optimized operating systems? Or perhaps their seamless user experience? In my opinion, those are all legitimate advantages of Apple products, but there’s one huge reason that’s rarely mentioned by news outlets or users themselves. And that is privacy.
Special thanks to NordVPN for sponsoring this video!

Hey Greg, I think your video (as all of your videos) was excellent. Great job. I agree that on paper apple does do the most it can to protect its customers but also I can’t help but think some of the bugs (like being able to hear others conversations if you call them and they hang up) are deliberate. Also as a network engineer i would recommend tor or running your own vps with openvpn over any vpn company as they have to hand over all logs secretly when asked. 👍

Deda Oxide I respect your position. I think most folks do, even though the only ones who usually say anything are people who consider cursing to be an argument.
I come from a family of computer makers, and I think it’s really cool and a lot of fun! The reason I still prefer Apple is that I see them as a software company. The hardware it makes is almost a part of the software, like letting the software be tangible for the user. That notion seems to inform a lot of Apple’s design. Choices and product curation, too. Changing the hardware would be like messing with the code, in a sense, so I’m cool leaving the phone as-is even as I continually want to tear apart and upgrade my pc! Heck, it’s part of why I keep my old 2014 Mac mini around even though my pc is so much faster

Thanks for this video. Been a longtime android fan until I've got informed. Next phone will be my 1st iPhone since the 5c.
As for the phone being unlocked. I have it on good authority that no easily purchasable phone is difficult to break. If you want anything safe, don't make it digital.

I don’t think it’s about insulting phones. Its about insulting people. I’m sure that 99% of Android users are perfectly reasonable people, but Android fanboys on the internet are so fucking obnoxious. They’ll be like, “LOLLLL why would you pay $3000 for a phone with 512MB of RAM?! Apple users are idiots who don’t know shit about technology, but are too stupid to look at a tech spec sheet, and too stupid to figure out Android so they need a dumbed down OS that can’t do shit and just buy a fancy garbage phone every year because it’s shiny and a status symbol. Stupid Apple sheep, too dumb to understand that they’re being ripped off!” That was a comedic exaggeration, but by all that much. It’s not about insulting phones, it’s about insulting people. Android fanboys turn it into, “You use Apple products because you are stupid.” And, to be fair, Apple has toxic fans too, who say that Android users just use Android because they can’t afford an iPhone, as if iPhones are objectively better. But, tbh, toxic Android fanboys seem to be more numerous and louder. At least on the internet. In reality, Android vs. iPhones is far more nuanced. Both options have pros and cons. Neither is objectively better. You pick the one that you prefer, and that’s the end of it. Personally, I know a great deal about technology, especially consumer electronics, and it pisses me off when Android fanboys imply that people who use Apple products don’t know anything about technology. Again, what angers people is that they are insulting people, not products. “You use an iPhone because you are stupid.” “You use Android because you are poor.” You can also piss people off by just calling them stupid or poor. The phone part isn’t the main cause of the anger.

I like Apple But android Has their perks and Androids Have evolved In the past years Now I'm liking them More and more So i am uprading most likely, getting a Samsung galaxy note 10 when its released to see the new Os features, Samsung still throws me Security Updates on this galaxy s5 so that is the only update I like.

If i were to resell my android phone it won’t be worth as much, but if i sell my old iPhone 7 it’s basically the same price as the Pixel 3a. I understand wanting to keep your information private but people who use apple devices tend to still use apps and sites where they put their info onto and your apple device doe snot protect that information. Apple users use Facebook sorry privacy is gone, same with twitter and the like. A lot of people as should everyone not keep important information on their phones I don’t care if it’s an apple product or not. Using an iPhone doesn’t make your information anymore private. Companies selling my search history or using it to advertise to me isn’t a bad thing and people should stop seeing it as that. Sometimes it gets annoying but if they didn’t do that I’d get shit ads anyway so I’d at least enjoy getting relevant ads. I understand there are other reasons for privacy but I mean come on reality is nobody has privacy even when using apple products no matter what security people say. You use the internet and social media and live in the real world then your privacy is long gone and if I really want to I can look you up as well as your family and their phone numbers where they live and their social media so if that’s privacy to everyone the. There is an issue.

The issue with Apple products is they won’t let you do anything the second you decide to do something a little technical and/or complicated.
Happened to me TODAY. I was able to connect my iPad Pro to my workplace’s remote server access to store files. And the second I needed to access the content of one of said files, not being able to access it from anywhere else, it decided it was time to just not let me do anything with the file. I couldn’t even open it, move it, share it, and copying it did nothing. It even was a simple .txt file, and it should actually let me access even the most bizarre of files. But no. Maybe with the right obscure app, but this feels like a basic core feature of a computer.

Apple's disadvantages from the perspective of a long time Android user:
    > no back button
    > no .webm support
    > no Micro-SD support. You can only expand storage via cloud services
    > no physical Dual-SIM options
    > no Bluetooth file transfer capabilities with non-Apple devices
    > no USB tethering unless you do it through iTunes
    > no easy way to transfer files to and from non-Apple devices
    > toxic anti-Right to Repair policies
    > closed protocol software that forces you to use the Apple ecosystem
    > limited customization options
    > limited file management options

This is something I discovered about Apple after I shifted over from android. I noticed that Apple was not allowing apps to read my messages. These were apps that, on android, would read my texts for bank transaction messages to track my spending “automagically”. I found it incredibly useful, which it is. But I hadn’t realised what an incredible breach of privacy it was until I saw how my iPhone refused to let it do its thing. From then on, I’ve noticed a wide array of privacy features that Android just does not have. I definitely feel more secure with my Apple devices than I ever did on android.

This is a highly valuable episode in your Apple Explained series, Greg. I greatly appreciate this. Apple’s stance on privacy is also a testament to the quality and success of their products and services, as they *don’t need* to sell our data to third parties, or to specifically target each one of us with algorithmically curated advertising. Very few companies would survive without such targets and external sources of revenue. Plus, it’s not fanciful lip-service on Apple’s part, as Tim Cook stood by Apple’s ideals when it came to the definitive crunch. A company is much more than its products.

I remember when I first used the internet for the first time back in the 2000s and my mom gave me one guideline for using it.
    1. Never give out any real information about who you are as a person including your name, DOB, address, school/work, and any other identifying information that could be viewed as uniquely you. Until today I am still using an established made up identity for anything I do online that requires personal information such as online shopping, social media, etc and I still never understand how people can give out real identifying information about themselves especially on social media & calling those who don't as trolling fake accounts, like bruh you may not care about your privacy but I do.

I had the iPhone 6 plus, then a few Huawei's and after they got crippled, I owned a One Plus 8. I had so many softwaresided problems with that device, I got frustrated using it. So I did something I never did before and switches my phone not even 1 year after I got it. I decided to go back to Apple, because "they just work" ! I got the iPhone 12 new for 670€ in Summer last year, so it was a good deal too and I don't regret my decision. Now I have a phone which functions like it should and I think I will upgrade when the non pro models get a higher refresh-rate-screen than just 60hz. So I guess I have to wait another two years. But its easy to wait if you a phone which will get softwareupdates for the next maybe 4 years.

The iOS is based on UNIX kernel which is very very stable and reliable. Android OS runs on Linux kernel which makes Android OS highly customizable but as a result tends to build up residue in RAM and can clog up RAM. That is why Android smartphones MUST have at least a lite version of RAM cleaner app installed on every Android smartphone, as a peace of mind. That is the reason why Android smartphones require larger RAM capacity with every passing year. You tend to have the "need to buy a new smartphone every next year", so to speak.

    • @GerardPedrico
      @GerardPedrico 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@BobDevV. Linux based OS is a hassle to install. You need to tweak settings in order to get it fully operational the way you want it. One case that someone once told me when using Libre open office, MS fonts don't come pre-installed so you have to browse distro to find MS fonts then install them to only tweak the settings in order to have MS fonts fully integrated and operational on Libre open office. It is quite a hassle. Didn't expect to just have office run smoothly when opening office just like that with no hassle whatsoever...

Your comment doesn't make much sense
ios is based on UNIX kernel so it's safe and reliable
While android is based on Linux which is more customisable
It's contradictory because then since Linux is based on UNIX it should be safe and reliable and so should be android since it's based on Linux
The whole point of UNIX was to make something customisable and could be run on anything.
and Linux is like an upgraded version of UNIX and has all the advantage that UNIX has and even more

I'm not sure why people get this idea that Android is inherently built on a flawed design and just chews through RAM and has slow apps. This isn't really true at all. There are test which compare RAM usage of apps on both Android and iOS and they are both very similar. The reason why Android phones often require more RAM is the difference in how both operating systems function. Multitasking on Android is way less restrictive and more apps can truly run in the background and not be frozen like they often are in iOS. I can have a VPN running in the background, the way it would run on a laptop meanwhile in iOS this is often not the case. Android phones often have more background apps like launchers, widgets, VPNs, spam blocker apps. Even with more RAM iOS wouldn't be able to take advantage of it the way Android does. iOS devices with 2-3gb of RAM really don't keep apps in the background as well Android phones with 6gb of RAM so its not like they can get away with skimping on RAM so easily.

Also, if you hate Apple or their products, just ignore them. There's no reason to hate a company that literally revolutionized the way we communicate, and the reason Android actually exists and made Linux popular. So I think you should be thankful that Apple made the iPhone in the first place. Also, stop insulting while you comment, thus maybe, but MAYBE somebody will pay attention to what you say.

I’m still using the iPhone 6s and it works fine. The phone was released like 6 years ago and it works better than a lot of new android phones.

@@fishyc43sar At least you have a choice if you don't like the distro. On mac if you don't like it, too bad, there is no other way. Fuck mac, why does it even exist? At least I get why people use Windows. Until college I've never met a person using a mac.
