I like the second one they recorded (first in this video) the most because the tension between silence and anticipation of the instruments striking (largely the bass) is just incredible. I think what they did there is harder to do, more interesting on a physical (dancing) level as well as cerebral, and reflects well on the skill of the musicians. They are both great though. The second one in the video is more unassuming, simple, and straightforward. I'm glad we have both
You bet. There's often a comparison made between Maddy, Jacqui McShee, and the former Sandy Denny. When in fact their voice differences are each perfectly suited to the particular songs and the kinda material they've each chosen to perform. And I especially appreciate Maddy's take on the 'earthier' tunes.
I've listened to these two versions a lot over the years and I'm not sure which is my favourite. I prefer the guitar rhythms and bass work in the slow version, but I really like the mando work and vocal harmonies in the faster version. Right now I'm leaning towards the slower version, but that could well change tomorrow.

Absolutely beautiful! The fast version is really nice, but the slow one is resonating with me more, it really sounds medieval/archaic.
I love the rawness of the guitars on the first version (an old time favourite of mine). Garage folk-rock.
