  • Champion Dual Fuel 9000 peak watts 7000 running watts (gas). 8100 peak watts 6300 running watts (propane). This is the first time starting the generator and the first time plugging it into the transfer switch and connecting the house to the generator.

*100% best **Generater.Systems** I have used. A test for hurricane prep here in Louisiana: three AC units, 5000, 5000 & 8000, 3 fridges, 2 device power setups, 4 flat screens....AND I had 40% of the power meter to spare.*

Everyone’s needs are different. I suggest find out how much electricity you will need to generate in a power outage situation. Size your generator and shop from there. This one supplies me very well. My whole house is electric. I can run everything except my stove.

*Great **Generater.Systems** . Our 1st 2500W Champion backed us up with hurricane Ida last August when our whole home generator crapped out after 8 days. Love the dual fuel. Hope to never run gasoline in it.Bought this 2500W to parallel with our other one for the RV.*

Have this same unit and it's running on propane powering our house right now! Been without power for last two hours due to a bad thunderstorm. As the name suggests, it's running like a Champion right now! Weird that we're the only house in the neighborhood with the lights on, but I'll take it!

Okay... After watching this video, and the one by John Daniel both of which were excellent by the way.... I went out and purchased this exact unit. I also purchased the storm
shield generator cover made by Champion for this unit. It will protect your unit running outdoors from rain or snow. With my Disconnect switch
to go from power company to generator Just like you have I will be set. Thank you so much for showing us the Gasoline / propane choice. Bring them power failures now!

I have the same generator, with a Reliance 10 circuit transfer switch connected to my 200amp service panel. It can run all my lights, freezer, refrigerator, microwave, and a portable AC unit in my master bedroom. I did purchase the all-weather cover in case I have to run it during rain events. So far, it works exactly as I had hoped. I agree it is kinda cool being the only house in the neighborhood with all the lights on during a power outage! :)

Take a permanent black marker and mark the box, then put the plug in and mark the plug (before twisting it) with something white (i used white-out) so you can line it up when plugging it in. . Makes for easier plugging in. In our case the outlet is mounted low (below knee level) on our meter pole and faces downward. It saves us having to kneel to plug it in.

I have only used propane. I like that there’s no shelf life in the propane but it’s nice to have the gas option for emergency. I use the small 5 gallon/bbq bottles. I get about 4 hours before the propane bottle gets too cold and shuts off the generator. From there I shake the bottle and start back up or I’ll switch bottles and come back to it. All together I get about 6 hours out of the little propane tanks.

@@FarmerG I have about same size Champion all gas that I added a propane carburetor and ran my house with it and noticed 5gal tank starting to freeze after a few hours, so I just used 3/8" clear flex pipe with brass T fittings to connect 3 tanks discharges together, then was still getting one tank to freeze, so I put a solenoid valve one it's outlet and control that with a $10 digital timer, to give it time to warm...

FARMER G - MY HOMESTEAD Why not pretend you have a real life power failure by manually tripping your transfer switch to the mid position, then drop it down to the generator position and do a 24 hour run on the generator only and see how it does? Better to know now if there is an issue versus finding out during a real life extended outage.

I haven't had a power outage since I got it and haven't used it for a long duration in a real life situation yet. I've just ran it to make sure everything works. If memory serves me correctly...I think I read in the manual or something somewhere about getting around 5 hours on a half load. So probably 3000-4000 watt load going 5 hours on that tank.

I spent a lot of time looking at my electrical meter. Both under heavy use and light use. When no major appliances are running, for example at night when everyone is sleeping I'm pulling about 200 watts. That's just computers plugged in and everything else plugged in but not really running actively. When I'm being a power hog and have everything going, the highest I have ever seen my meter go was about 7 kilowatts. That was with the washer, dryer, hot water heater, dish washer, and lights all going. Obviously I will be very conservative if the grid is down and I'm on the generator but worse case scenario the generator will handle my needs at maximum use if need be. I highly recommend learning how to read your electrical meter. There are four flashes:
      1: meter reset 888888
2: odometer- total kilowatt hours the meter has tracked.
3: current usage- in kilowatts- 1.200 would be 1200 watts. 0.055 would be 55 watts.
      4: voltage.
Hope that helps you. I will make a video on meter reading soon.

So how long will it run off 1 standard propane tank?

    • @FarmerG
      @FarmerG  3 ปีที่แล้ว

As it’s running the tank gets cold. I get about 4 hours before the 5 gallon tank gets too cold and shuts off. At that point, I shake the tank and keep going or swap it out for another one, let time go by and then switch back to the original tank for about another 2 hours. Total, I get about 6 hours out of a tank. I run a fridge, freezer, tv, hot water heater, well, basically run everything but my stove/oven and only emergency laundry.

well when u shut the gas off to turn it off it was a bad idea... Engine will burn the fuel in the hose and make it hard to start the next time. Shut the engine off with the switch and only the switch. Had to thumbs down because you shut it down wrong every single time. I hope people read this and make sure to never shut it down by turning off the propane tank or turning off the gas toggle. ALWAYS shut down using the power on and off switch. Might not seem like a big deal but that's how you destroy the carb and burn up your battery.
