    As a pre-med student I’m notorious for putting too much focus on the outcome. Change happens from the day to day consistency and discipline. Great video! ☺️👏🏽

      make a realistic schedule you can maintain on the long time otherwise you will easily burnout

      How far along the pre-med journey are you? I’ve definitely learned to focus on the big picture and not get caught up on a bad grade here or there. I’m in my fourth year of biochemistry and it’s kicked my ass a few times!

    What I find really helpful is associating certain activies with certain atmospheres that help me concetrate. For instance, for 5 months, I would only watch Seinfield when eating. Last night I tried to watch Seinfield while in bed and I got HUNGRY. Even though I have never eaten or been hungry at that time of the night. I don't have that much discipline and I must be physically active, so I play the same songs over and over again when working out. This way, whenever I hear those songs, it's easier for me to get motivated to work out. That's how I stick to habits the best, but it takes a long time before getting actual results

    The identity part is true. It's extremely hard to study for something you despise. You have to convince yourself that you enjoy the topics you study, even if you couldn't care less about them. Even if you like the topics just 1% more every day, eventually you'll actually like the topic. Fake it 'til you make it.

    If I'm being brutally honest, im not sure where I'd be without this channel, it helps relieve anxiety about med school and just basic lifestyle changes with information i know i can trust, thank you, I can't begin to explain my gratitude.

    (Nerd Alert)
    I remember an episode of Star Trek: TNG where Data was trying to win a complicated game against some alien-guy (forget the name). Data (an android) kept losing. He later determined that the reason he lost was because he programmed himself to only focus on winning, not the process. When he changed his approach to not focus on winning, but on mastering and being as good as his opponent, each game resulted in a draw. Which, in the context of the episode/scenario was essentially a "win."
    Focusing on the process, what is directly in front of you, and within your control is how you begin to master yourself and your situation. So many valuable lessons in TNG. Kept thinking about that while watching this vid. Thanks for the reminder. :)

    As an student i am way too tired to care about self-improvement or sucess. In the end we all get fat and old, make compromises in life and shit will happen despite our actions. Most of life is luck. Thinking you are in control only leads to frustration when life doesn't give you what you feel you deserve.
    Just sleep, eat, drink and fuck. That all the sucess you need in life.

      This is a very interesting comment, and I just want to thank medschoolinsiders for not filtering comments with "fuck" or "shit" in them. Oftentimes, I find I can't truly express myself in youtube comments anymore because of the dumb filters.

    For me it helps if I just don’t think about it and just do it. If I’m like “I’ll go to the gym in 10 minutes” I know it’s not gonna happen. That’s why I go there in the morning: I wake up, eat my breakfast and leave the house so I literally don’t have time to think whether I wanna go or not

    Any advice for sticking to a schedule / making a system with fluctuating health? I've improved my study methods but I haven't been able to form them into daily habits . I've got a chronic health issue so how much energy I have on any given day varies a lot. I might be super fit after 5 hours of sleep or absolutely need 13 hours of sleep. I also get random aches and they give me brain fog sometimes which forces me to reschedule. Do you have an Idea for building a system / habit around unpredictable schedule changes? Like, I definitely have an at least an hour to study every day ( my current goal during my apprenticeship) but I find it hard to stick to that since that available hour isn't at the same time every day.
    I'm trying to build up the habits slowly so that by the time I'm done with my internship I can do 4 hours of studying everyday well. I'll need that to be able to do a part time Bachlors/Masters while working after my apprenticeship.
    I know it's not medschool , but the health economy degreees I want aren't exactly gonna be easy fore me to get while sick either. So I'd really appreciate if anyone's got advice

    Bo Eason says that, like a plane, we are slightly off course to our aim almost 90% of the time, but it’s the little course corrections along the journey that allow success in the end
    Edit: Don’t be fearful of the weather and turbulence that appear along your journey to excellence! Just course correct.
