Snapdragon is both power efficient and hot. You might ask how both? It is more power efficient than SD 8 Gen 3 but is capped very high outside of its efficiency range to give us wildly high benchmark numbers. While doing high performance tasks like gaming or benchmarking, it runs at such high speed that no matter how efficient it is it will run hot.🌡️
If you push the 8 Elite to 100% all the time, then it will be hot. (Like the 3D mark test) But, there are very few apps/games (except for the the benchmark) needs that much of power. Realme and Xiaomi have been "fixing" benchmarks for marketing purposes by allowing their phones to operate at unoptimized rates. Therefore, these inflated scores should be viewed in context as unrealistic. However, only a few of us will actually use these benchmarks, and most apps will not be as demanding. From this, we learn that we shouldn't rely solely on benchmarks; instead, as this video demonstrates, we should focus on real-world usage. In that context, it becomes clear that the Snapdragon 8 Elite represents a significant improvement over the 4nm architecture. Pretty much what I was kinda expecting, but finally a very reliable test. When put under intense load, the 8 Elite can run HOT, though when under less stress it is definitely more efficient and should be a decent upgrade for normal users. Seeing the Genshin Impact test was very reassuring too.
Both chipsets could run very hot, its just that some manufacturers tend to have extremely aggresive parameters to the governor of the SoC when their devices run benchmarks, ending with scenarios like this where the phone stops the app from running after reaching unresonable temperatures. With further improvments of the governor in this regard, maybe we can see the full potential of this chipset. While for now, its perfectelety noticeable that in real-life scenarios the 8 Elite is 30% more efficient than its predecesor, and also 40% more powerful.

Seems that the biggest temp issue is with the gpu, maybe its some bug that lets the chip go way over it should or the phones are not cooling it well enough (they did release them very fast, idk how much testing theyve done beforehand), either way its not a everyday problem at all for 99% of users and the most hardcore gpu users will buy the rog or the redmagic with already better cooling for this so it should help, seems like a great chip overall lets see what mediatek can do to match it since the 9300/9300+ made a huge jump in quality
So in day to day usage they are cooler and use less power? Hell yes. I dont care if they run hotter in benchmarks (to avoid throttling the CPU and reducing performance). Its a manufacturer's choice and they know this small phone wont be used for long periods of extreme use.
So basically it seems like the issue is the chip doesn't throttle when in benchmarks, I'm wondering if that's an issue of the OEM not allowing the chip to throttle or if the drivers fit the 8 Elite just let the chip go 100% all the time during benchmarks.
We've seen a big increase in batteries in Chinese 8 elite phones but also with the higher power capability it can also come with downsides. Compare the Honor Magic 6 pro and the Honor Magic 7 pro as their batteries are only 250 mah different. There you'll be able to see if the efficiency is actually real world and not just stress tests and benchmarks because those don't always translate into real life usage
More power efficient does not mean that processor consumes less energy because efficiency is just the ratio of energy spent and work done. Manufacturers can claim that their cpu are more efficient while also increasing the wattage. For a better example is the thing with nvidia gpus where the increase in efficiency doesn't decrease power consumption because they also keep increasing the power consumption. So conclusion you can't say that a cpu is less efficient or more efficient by just measuring energy consumed or heat produced because that is misleading. Just say that the cpu or the phone itself has poor thermal management.

After that issue was fixed the realme could finish the test perfectly fine with much higher performance than previous chips and heating just as much as every other phone. Thanks for confirming!
Ok so the xaiomi does no throttle inorder to keep up with that awesome performance, so if we were to actually play games or emulate something that would push the 8 elite really hard, it would be wise to use a coolers. Although i can't see any mobile game that would push this chip to the extreme
i really don't recommend recommend xiaomi as a basis for testing a chip since they are not good in thermal management ever since their xiaomi 11 got released. their flagship series are not that great.
I don't think it's Snapdragon's fault, Xiaomi has always been trash, their 14 Ultra last year could not even handle battery tests without overheating, no surprise it overheats in 3dmark. The reason that it does somewhat good in Genshin is 60FPS limitation, wait for 120FPS and see how it cooks.
it means that if 8 elite will be throttled properly then the performance will be still higher than gen3 and A18 while keeping temps at decent levels, crazy gaming chip.
I believe the reason they went to this name is because they are using their own custom ARM cores, which are similar to the ones in the X Elite desktop SOC.
So basically, Snapdragon Elite is a huge upgrade and there's no reason to panic. Nice, I'm actually really hyped for new phones ! ^^

All the snapdragon 8 elite phones are outward Chinese ones, so its early to say it's hot
hi please try this with another xiaomi phone on the snapdragon 8 gen 3 since samsungs software tends to overload the chipset more than other devices
Is it actual CPU temperatures or battery?
Battery.
Ok so the xaiomi does no throttle inorder to keep up with that awesome performance, so if we were to actually play games or emulate something that would push the 8 elite really hard, it would be wise to use a coolers. Although i can't see any mobile game that would push this chip to the extreme
I emulate nitendo switch games on my samsung s20 with snapdragon
Without cooler it can heat up to 52 degrees after like 1 hour 30 mins of gaming.
Very interesting video. Not a good advertisement for Xiaomi.
No wonder Qualcomm are focusing on improved battery life.
Pls do 8 elite vs 9400 gaming test, bro
I'll do it soon, need a larger SD phone for that test since my dimensity is Vivo x200 pro
@techmo2020 Great, bro. I've already subbed you. Can't wait to see it 👍
Imagine having your xiaomi 15 in performance mode and expecting it to throttle (yikes)
So it's the manufacturers fault not Qualcomm
Please do compare 8 elite with Mediatec dimensity 9400
For accurate power consumption use same brand similarly rated phone not different brand. S series is known for their crappy batteries.
That is battery temperature bro not the CPU temperature 😐
Battery temperature is what matters right..?
Lower watts = less heat
@@wouter.d.h.battery temp is more important
@@Eggk1_ ofcourse thats what I said
i really don't recommend recommend xiaomi as a basis for testing a chip since they are not good in thermal management ever since their xiaomi 11 got released. their flagship series are not that great.
a samsung SDE would be amazing
I don't think it's Snapdragon's fault, Xiaomi has always been trash, their 14 Ultra last year could not even handle battery tests without overheating, no surprise it overheats in 3dmark.
The reason that it does somewhat good in Genshin is 60FPS limitation, wait for 120FPS and see how it cooks.
I have the Xiaomi 14 Ultra great camera but i still regret buying it. It gets even warm with normal social media use
@@wouter.d.h. get a samsung or iphone, buy phones that work.
@@nasifabdullah362iphone is the most garbage phone

oneplus 13 soon?
Yes 😊
@@techmo2020 lovely because that's the phone I want him to replace my LG V60
What's speedometer 3 score of 8 elite?
30-33
@Eggk1_ where u found it
Lmfao EVERY one of these new chipsets WILL GET HOT 😂😂😂
Nothing will change until proper heat dissipation is standardized in smartphones
The 8 gen 3 is actuall the one with a hot mess, but no one is talking about it.
8gen3 144mm2 (M2 149mm2) vs 8 elite 124mm2
Use GT7 pro and Vivo X200 pro for 9400 vs 8 Elite
compare it to 9400!
And how about sd gen 4 vs sd gen 3
why is it so slow on rendering? maybe it is not optimized well.
It's not slow, on my m3 laptop, it takes roughly the same to export a 4K video :-D
@@techmo2020wow lol
Seems like Adobe doesn't use hw encoding it seems like it's only using the cpu to render the video i believe other apps are more optimised for it
Me aiming to buy poco f6 pro or xiaomi 13 ultra with sd8gen2 because it is cheaper option with flagship performance
it means that if 8 elite will be throttled properly then the performance will be still higher than gen3 and A18 while keeping temps at decent levels, crazy gaming chip.
Thats ba bad Gen 3 , Samsung really under clocks its processor
❤👍👍
It will be better if they Rename it as 8 Gen 4.....
I believe the reason they went to this name is because they are using their own custom ARM cores, which are similar to the ones in the X Elite desktop SOC.
