    To be honest, I'm typically a Nikon shooter; but, I did buy a couple Canons a while back. (same as you: 1D Mk IV and 5D Mk II). I've considered getting a 1D X, so I really appreciate you spelling out the differences. Well done video - factual, no nonsense, and to the point. Thank you for your time and posting this.

      Glad to help you out! While I absolutely loved shooting the 5D Mark II the last few years, I felt like it was due and upgrade and the 1DX seemed to fit me more than the 5D III. I love shooting both the 1D IV and 1DX and plan on doing so for at least the next 5-10 years! If you do buy a 1DX don't be fooled into buying LP-E19 batteries solely for the 1DX; LP-E4N batteries work just fine in it and also work in the 1D IV, 1D III, and 1DS III. I managed to snag a deal getting two LP-E4N batteries for about $50 whereas a used LP-E19 battery is about $100.

    Hi friend. I got a used 1DIV from B&H in November 2021 for $ 1k. Using it all the time since then. What a gem of a camera! The condition was good as well with only 42k shutter count. I got outstanding results last winter with bird photography as I used my EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II + 2x. This combo produced a reach of 780mm on my 1DIV and got all my shots that previously were not easy. Just love it.
    Gave it a try indoors as well with Nifty fifty and EF 70-200mm f/2.8L. Again, fantastic results.
    Now, whenever my silly desire yearns for an MILC, my conscience shows me that I already own all the necessary bodies and lenses to support my hobbyist nature and street photography requirements.
    Thank you for the great video.

      Hello,
      The 1D IV is okay for video footage. It is not super impressive feature wise but decent. Af performance is okay when focusing in video mode. Video color is great. Video mode picks up autofocusing noise. The maximum resolution is 1080p which is okay but on the lower end of the scale. You can take some great videos with the camera if you have nice lenses and manually focus for the video.

    I was toying for a long time between 1dx and 1d mark iv. In the end I come accross a 1dx with only 33k clicks in very nice condition for £639 delivered. I could have got the 1d mark IV for around £200 cheaper but they all had more clicks and most of them weren't in quite as good condition. As you mentioned, you can't go wrong with either camera. I may at some point also pick up the 1d IV when it drops a little more. Nice video, thanks.

    The 1DX was the first Canon camera that in my experience had a completely improved AF system since the 1D Mark II was released. The 1D Mark III AF, while incredibly quick, had plenty of notorious problems and while the 1D Mark IV solved some of those problems, the initial focusing speed was definitely slower than the 1D Mark III. The 1DX has much better tracking. If the 1D Mark IV loses the subject it will never find it again until you restart the focus. The 1DX will actually try to and often succeed to find the subject if it loses it. Yes, I don't like the dim gray focus points.
    I still used the 1D Mark IV for years and it's the only camera I had to replace the shutter and mirror box (a little over 300,000 shots).

    • @AleksUsovich
      @AleksUsovich  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This fantastic information! I actually loved my 1D IV much more than the 1DX. Once I picked up the 1DX II, I decided to sell both 1DX and 1D IV since the 1DX II does everything I want it to do.

    • @scottlarson1548
      @scottlarson1548 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AleksUsovich I can't think of any reasons to prefer a 1D Mark IV over a 1DX besides the 1.3X crop factor and the much better focus points in the viewfinder. Although Canon improved the terrible 1D Mark III tracking problems, it still requires more concentration to track a subject than the 1DX. If you need to shoot at high ISO (over 6400), you have to crank the noise reduction to maximum and that reduces the buffer to a handful of frames.

      @@bngr_bngr It cost over $600, about half the cost of buying a used one. Even worse, when I got it back I noticed that the AF lights didn't light up in the viewfinder anymore. 1D IV is actually a 1.3x crop (not 1.2x). And its almost a full pound lighter. It has better battery life than the 1DX. It has a bit more DR in raw files than the 1DX, and similar high ISO performance (DXOMark is way off here). Another thing is that APS-H makes post processing much easier by cropping soft corners and edges from full frame lenses, this is huge. Digital FF sensors always have to deal with poor corner and edge performance especially on wide angle lenses... no issues with the 1D Mark IV. The pro's and con's should be complete, I'm just helping the balance here ;).

      Hi Erik, I own both bodies as well. While the 1DX is cleaner in high ISO's at about 6,400 and above, the practical question is "how often do you honestly shoot at these ISO's?". There are intangible qualities to the 1D Mark IV that aren't noted on spec sheets. The experience- it's just more simple to operate (easier menus), extremely reliable and consistent (I find the 1DX's AF system a bit fussy to get dialed in), and has awesome IQ through 6,400 if you use the ETTR method combined with HTP (and process raw files using the camera neutral profile.). While I don't plan to do a video, I do plan on completing my 1D Mark IV tribute/review on my website soon. Thank you for your comments/inquiry! www.photographic-central.blogspot.com

    Thanx for giving a deserved credit to these big boys! 1DIV is a true professional camera at all angles. But 1DX is far superior technologically. I'd say no much sense in comparing direct successor to predecessor. 1DX all the way. But comparing to something more modern like 6DII, 5DIV or mirrorless R-line, that's where the question hits. Resolution, touchscreen, Dual Pixel, Wi-fi and many software features can really leave even 1DX behind (considering the price). No way to beat the build quality, though. I've held both 1DIV and 1DX and I'd say it's the best Canon can offer. Ever. Now waiting to see what monster should come out of future R1...

    • @AleksUsovich
      @AleksUsovich  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your great comment! Yes, 1DX was more superior over the 1D IV but seemed to take away features that were useful like illuminated viewfinder among other things. I've since upgraded to the 1DX Mark II and this camera is in a league of it's own, quite possibly the best Canon I've ever used. Far superior to the 5D IV and 6D II; wish it had a higher mp sensor like the 5DSR but still fine to crop when needed. The 4K 60 fps is insane to have and has fantastic color science. The 1DX is okay when compared to the 1DX II and the 1D IV is lost in the dust with how great the 1DX II is. Would love to get my hands on the 1DX III and see if it is so much better.

    I loved this video because I now have the 1d4. I just wanted to know how the color science on the 1dx is compared to the 1d4. Are there still great yellows and greens and oranges or did the colors become a lot cooler. I briefly owned the 5d3, after owning the 1d3 and sorely missed the early 1d’s colors. I had to sell it, lol. Plus I missed the grip. Once you go 1d you don’t go back. Lol. Lastly how much better is the lowlight performance. It is the single biggest reason I want the 1dx. While I no longer have the 1DX ( have a 1DX II now), the photos that I've taken with it consistently seemed to be much bluer than what the 1D IV were, however, this can be fixed using the WB shift. I've found that the high iso low light performance on the 1DX is much much better than the 1D IV. You could shoot at 6400 iso on the 1DX and have the same noise as shooting 1600 iso on the 1D IV. I actually didn't mind the noise until I started having issues trying to sell my photos and the stock company said too much noise and I felt I needed to upgrade. The two most lenses that are my 1DX II are the Sigma 50 f/1.4 art and the Canon 400 f/5.6; they're amazing for the price. @@AleksUsovich It all depends how you use these bodies. The problem with modern photography is it is very tech based. So the possible thinking with a lot of photographers is that a new body with huge megapixels is going to give infinite new possibilities is a somewhat myth. If you analyse the greatest film makers. The Spielbergs or George Lucas’ of this world they did their best work with effects were limited because they applied their brains in creating masterpieces in the 1970s. Tech was very difficult back than. I see this with modern still cameras. Photographers are relying on the tech to get great images which is not true at all. 1. The camera was purchased used from a photojournalist who bought it new which is where the use came from.
      2. The scratches on the body don't affect the function of the camera one bit
      3. The 1DX is old since the 1Dx Mark III is out and not that expensive anymore.

      If I bought one used in better condition it would have set me back over $1200 USD. I picked this one up for $799 USD and the physical condition of it doesn't matter to since since it affects nothing. My 5D II was in very good condition that I used for 7 years before I sold it to upgrade to the 1DX.

      Its what the images look like that count and the enioyment you get from using the camera.If you are worrying about getting a few dinks and scratches on your equipment you are probably missing good photo opportunities.These cameras are sturdy tools and can cope with almost anything.
