- Spoiler Alert! Bob Cowsill of TheCowsills debuts tastes of 4 new Cowsills songs which haven’t even been recorded yet. Oh yes, he does! And, we sample three A Cappella versions of their hits, which will drop in mid-2019. Oh, please, stop whatever you’re doing. Or, multi-task. When Bob comes to call, we make records, Well, Bob oft makes records, but he charts news ground, and lightning strikes whenever he’s in the living room. His performance at Women Who Write in 2014 continues to garner views and comments pretty much daily. This show, I suspect, will do in kind. Bob not only treats us to a taste of all The Cowsill hits, he tells the stories behind them… The Rain, The Park & Other Things, Hair, and what a story that is, thank you, Carl Reiner! Indian Lake, Love American Style, We Can Fly, Poor Baby… how Bob and Bill started as a duo and then added Barry and John… The Cowsill Brothers got signed and did The Today Show. How first Jimmy Reed, and then The Beatles, shaped them and schooled them from their records and appearances on first Jack Paar, who knew? And then Ed Sullivan, of course. The Cowsill Brothers first recording, All I Wanna Be Is Me, and Bob sang some of it. How Artie Kornfield, their George Martin, changed their lives. Getting mom in the act, and then Paul and Susan. From small-town Rhode Island to playing for 30,000 fans. Inspiring the Partridge Family. Joining The Happy Together Tour, which brought them their much-deserved resurgence… the upcoming album of new songs, tastes of four sampled here, including Katrina for Barry, and the Howard Kaylan inspired, You Gotta Get Up. That’s right, Howard, royalties to come. Largo Nights, and Nuclear Winter, the only one maybe not heard for the first time here.The genius talent that is Chuck Negron, Ron Dante, Mark Volman, John Cowsill, the longtime Beach Boy drummer, Louise Palanker's great doc, Family Band: The Cowsill's Story.. playing music and touring, which makes him, and us, happy, happy, happy. I was only a kid when Indian Lake came out, I don't know much about the cowsills but I now remember a lot of their songs, so been looking at the family history and this documentary it's all fantastic
Indian Lake still my favourite song of all time and the video clip with the family on TV is fantastic I just love the way that bass player moves, thank you so much for the memories god bless the whole family

Being a few years younger- I wasn’t’ familiar with the group. But… after watching the documentary today and streaming everything I can find on this incredible family.. I find them not only musical geniuses but captivating and naturally funny. I pray they all have moved on with their lives individually, emotionally, and spiritually.
This is by far, one of the BEST interviews I have listened too. Vicki, you did a great job keeping the pace and Bob Cowsill is such a great story teller. I am right with you all in age and remember the Cowsills early days. Thanks for a great 2 hours!

Just rewatched your interview with Bob Cowsill, and it was just as enjoyable and interesting the second time around. "Where's John, where's John" -- too funny! The group must get a lot of questions asking where is and what John is up to because they have "Where is John" episodes on their podcasts! It was so cute the way Bob complained about John (hopefully the complaint was said in fun). Thanks again for this great interview!

I took their pic and they gave me some guitar picks. They were so nice & friendly.

I didn't realize this was nearly 2 hours long when I clicked out of curiosity, but those 2 hours went by fast. I didn't become aware of the Cowsills until Hair, because I was just old enough to start paying attention to music my parents didn't listen to. I don't think I was even 10 yet. I do know what I heard about all the young bands having horrible lives because of the drugs and women that were thrown at them, so the senior Mr. Cowsill did right by sheltering his children from that, at least. I listened to the documentary clips, so I'm aware it wasn't all candy and ice cream for the kids, but at least their dad got it right on something.
