I got my GBD200 on your recommendation and I love it...the MIPS for ageing eyes is incredible and having that 80s childhood throwback is a real bonus. The GBD200 replaced my original Mudman (fantastic watch) purely so I could use it without needing to put glasses on! Oh to be young again....I'd own about 50 G-Shocks if I was in my 20s/30s now!
@@mouradmou4546”tough solar” means it can run entirely on solar power. “Solar powered” means it will assist in charging the battery but cannot fully charge with just solar power
And smaller, something between the size of a 5610 and a baby-g would be ideal. I'm glad that Casio is now releasing more MIP watches but I wish they'd make them with smaller modules and smaller steel cases. Nice review though Russ!
It was because of your original GBD200 video that I bought one for myself! I love the MIP display! I would consider this one too if it only had a positive MIP display! Or better yet, one where you can switch back and forth between positive and negative...depending upon your mood!
I just got my G-Shock gbd200 and I love it more than my Samsung watch. I own six g. Shocks and this is my favorite. I do use the smart features such as step counter, certain notifications, and timer etc. it have a few cons but It's a great watch. Don't hesitate to buy
Funnily enough I have just had a long weekend in London and went to Carnaby Street on Saturday where I found the G Shock shop! Had to look round telling my girlfriend got that one, and that one etc. I was actually wearing the blue gbd200 at the time. I also have a gbd 100 and a gbx100 which also have the MIP module. It is without a doubt the most readable module. Going to have to look at one of these now.
It actually looks better on your wrist than it does on the Casio website. I am an owner of two GBD200s (light grey.. Stormtrooper watch) and a black one. My current favourite is my new DW 5610u.
Good review. It looks nice, but if it had the normal G-Shock features like the 5610u with the mit screen, including solar power it would be a winner! I personally would go for the GW-5000u myself.
I got the GBX100TT last year because I loved the metal bezel and added moon phase and tide graphs. Simply an amazing screen., spot on with the notifications though. They're so small you can't even read them.
I've had the GBD200 for quite sometime. It's my everyday work watch. The MIP display is second to none, love the vib alarm, but the other features are clunky and somewhat useless. I use the "workout timer" as a countdown timer for my lunch break. I don't use the smartwatch features, step tracker, and don't have it bluetooth enabled. I'd love to see a Casio MIP with classic G-Shock features.
MIP displays look so good! Crispest digits in the business! 😂 I agree with you MWC, I think the 200 still edges the 300 for me just because it looks like a more modern take on the classic G Shock Square. I haven’t bought one yet just because I really don’t have a use for any of the fitness tracker/smart functions. I know I can disable them but I’d still know they’re there 😂 Please Casio, can we have a bog standard solar powered Square with a MIP display 🙏 Awesome show as ever MWC!
I've got the same blue GBD-200, I love the MIP display for my aging eyes, the only thing I don't like is there's no hourly chime option, can never work out why they wouldn't have this option as it can be turned off easily, I'm a sucker for the casioaks too, so may end up with the 300 soon too.
Ive got an old GBX6900 with bluetooth, the app no longer works but theres a third party one tbat links. I just like using it to set the time and turn all the alarms on/off. Then i switch back off. Speaking of which you really should try to find one. Its a total gem.
The beep is supposed to tell you if you pressed hard enough which seems less relevant if it happens on the release like it's asking you to try again instead of pressing harder. You end up always pressing harder.
Really had my hopes up with this one then find out it’s the same module as the GBD200 which I already have. The workout function is not the same as a timer. I tried it for a cup of tea and there was no audible alert or vibration. I do have mute on but I figured a timer would override that and sound an alarm. Don’t care about steps or Bluetooth. Not going to be like the rest and say “give me solar and MB6”. Just take out the Bluetooth and steps and give us a proper timer
GBD200 I like. GBD300 is just a different shape. It takes decades for Casio to make a decent smart watch... love the MIP, would like to see a white/black screen like super market tags. Heck, they could have chosen luminisent background.
Em, there's nothing hexagonal about these two. Rather octagonal (sorry 🤓). Still prefer my GX-56BB - it's just so much cooler 😎 Cheers Russ, great fun!
I have been using Casio GBD-300 since August 22, 2024. (Today is the 42nd day) This watch is similar to Casio OAK and looks like a better digital version of it. Bluetooth connection has become more useful in this watch because we can read notifications from our phone on the watch screen, I think this is a great thing!! It is like a smart watch but not exactly, I think we can call it half smart. But as you said, I think the biggest shortcoming of this watch is that it cannot be charged with solar energy.
By the way, I think the pedometer is not working correctly!! When I wake up in the morning, I go to the toilet and it shows 30 steps, I get up and take two steps to clean my cat's litter (the cat litter is really right next to the toilet) and suddenly I see that I have taken 90-140 steps, it's impossible!! Maybe if we walk on the street and walk at the same speed, it can count correctly, but it often seems to deceive us.
I have the GBD200(in blue!) and it's my go to watch for exercising. I also wear it often at night because of that backlight and even my old eyes can see the time!
If I'm buying a Casio it better have solar😂... I'm one of those people that if it's not solar then it better be a Auto and fancy... love the screen though, look very nice, but solar is a must... I'll stick with the 5600 series (square).... but when I'm not using the 5600 series I still love my Casio protrek 340t, but only use it for my backwoods hiking camping Etc... 😎✌️
I have the GBD-200 in tan and *LOVE IT*. I bought it for the step counter, other features and general indestructibility of it still being a G-shock. I just wore it for 2mos straight touring through Europe and it has nary a scratch. If you like the look of the Casio-Oak better, do not hesitate, it is a great watch.
Just got my first G Shock, the 5600E, for $33 (incl. shipping and tax). What a deal. Love it. Got it from Woot. FYI FB is not showing my replies to comments, so I put the info in here.
I have the watch, and i fully agree on the softness of the band. This is the nicest, most premium feeling resin band i've ever felt, i hope they stick with it for other models.
Wearing the 200 now. It's a very comfortable watch. MIP display is great. I just wish they had a home screen that showed the time AND the step counter large enough to actually read. The step graphs are cool but not of much use and the step counter is too small to read (at least at a glance).
I hope for a casio with solar + shedule & tasks sync - just that, no fitness bumps. The only (!) option of such functionality is the "tissot solar connect" and I probably end up with that. The only thing what stops me is that my daily driver has always been a casio since my first TS-1000 as kid followed by a DBC-600, VDB-3000, AL-180 and today the GWM-5610
Thanks for the reviews !! Been looking for a nice digital watch with a large display but not overly obtrusive case size. looked into MIP displays recently as I wanted to have a watch which I can wear to bed and read the time in complete darkness. looked at the gbd200 but I realized that my Garmin Fenix 7s is exactly what I'm looking for. Problem solved. no need to push a button to read time. still, waiting for a tough solar mips 5610 square like everyone else
@@ltw8579fully aware of that. got multiple Gs. Guess I didnt mention that the Fenix is so much easier to read with the watch face I'm currently on. You want autolight? Sure. You must get the right angle of tilt dont you? If that is your thing, good then.
you should do a review of the newish Baby-G BGD-5650-1ER. the smallest most compact G yet with atomic time and solar. if you do, i got a tip for the small wrist users, invert the strap orientation and the bucle will seat more comfortably. sure does on my 16cm wrist.
I truly hope Casio gets its MIP display technology watches to run on purely tough solar soon. CITIZEN just released their LAND MASTER series (digi analog to boot) of watches that run TOTALLY independent of wired charging and is purely eco-drive!
Love the channel! Just a general question. Is is just me or is battery life such a big deal? I could see if you had to change it monthly, but even if it was every 2 years, is that so bad?( Excepting Solar, of course) I like to tinker with my watches, and changing a battery is , dare I say it, fun?
When you get older, you might realize that no matter how great the display is, eventually it's all going to go to fuzz as your eyesight degrades with age. That is why I like the real Casioak because the Analog dial makes it it legible even without your glasses on. I don't need clear vision to see the relative position of an hour hand and minute hand. And if you get the solar version of the Casioak, you get Bluetooth sync with your phone as a bonus. And I would argue that the term Casioak referred not only to the fact that it had an octagonal case, but also had a main analog dial as well. Keeping the octagonal shape and simply inserting a fully digital display does not make it a Casioak in my book. But it's your show.....
Random thought I hadn’t seen a MWC video in ages. Thought you must have stopped making content….but no, fear not! Odd youve not shown in my feed at all for months even though I’ve been subscribed for years.
Now if the thing only had solar power. The only Casio with MIP display and solar also all have that heartrate monitor which drains so much power you have to use an extra charger for the things or leave it switched off, and then it's just in the way, making the watch less comfortable to wear.
I wish they would just make the strap without the flappy bits. And Citizen have just released an anadigi with MIP screen that has both negative and position display so why can't G-shock just release a basic module MIP with solar? I have the GBD-200 but I won't be getting another until they start to listen to their fans.
I have two of this MIP display watches, the GBD 200 and the GBX-100KI-1, very similar to this new one. But in my opinion the GBD 200 it's looking better. The GBX-100KI-1 even better. But I don't connect them with the phone, only when I have to adjust the time. Multiband 6 would be nice.
Nice one Russell, but nothing beats my DW-290 1VS !!😊 Seriously though, I think the 200 is better than the 300. And I don't trust bio plastic. Anything bio always disintegrates over time. If it's organic, it rots.
This new shape resembles the ever popular Samsung 7 watch that I see everywhere. Making it look like a smart watch at a lower price? Clever Casio. Wife knocks it out of the park again.
Thanks for the great review. It’s a terrific watch. This comment might not be well received, but this and the 200 (especially this one) feels like a Smart Watch. I have nothing against Smart Watches so if you want to wear one while you workout or for the day, I think you should. I definitely like the “classic” Casios better. Again, just my opinion. Thanks again!
It's amazing how Casio watches are all, all systematically beautiful. the Casio window is populated by an army, an infinite series of watches among which even the ugliest of all, the one you like least, you think: "not bad!" I really believe that they have a secret formula, a study of proportions like the Italian painters did 500 years ago, or before that Leonardo with the Vitruvian man, or a kind of golden rectangle, because otherwise it is impossible never to miss a line, never a design, when you design I don't know how many. I believe that in these terms the results obtained by Casio are largely underestimated.
I own GBX 100 and I never received a compliment for this watch despite it cost me 140$ :D But I really love this watch and I feel comfortable wearing this watch to everywhere as a newyorker:)) I also like dual time mode and stepcounter feature. I wish casio would make calculator watch with the same features
I don't like the weird light button on the new one. I really love how front & center that button is on the 200. I also don't like the color options. I have the gbd 200 in green, I wouldn't give it up for this.
The only thing that I don't like about my 200 is that it tells me that I'm getting less fit....... BUT that display is to use a word that I hate (for some odd reason that I do not know) is "awesome". I don't see me going for the 300 as I have that functionality covered.... but I've said that many times before with a square and currently have a bunch of them. Is anyone aware of a G-Shock vaccine that fixes the G-Shock addiction? I would donate money to it as long as it's less that the cost of a new Casio... I'll get my coat....

Dear Casio.

Those flappy bits are seperate to the strap my friend . You don’t have to have them on there
I have two of this MIP display watches, the GBD 200 and the GBX-100KI-1, very similar to this new one. But in my opinion the GBD 200 it's looking better. The GBX-100KI-1 even better. But I don't connect them with the phone, only when I have to adjust the time. Multiband 6 would be nice.
Where is the cheapest place to buy this watch ? Thanks
Your reviews are great and make me laugh.. Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much my friend!
Very new to Casio-- Is this the same watch as the GMDB300 available in the US?
Nice one Russell, but nothing beats my DW-290 1VS !!😊 Seriously though, I think the 200 is better than the 300. And I don't trust bio plastic. Anything bio always disintegrates over time. If it's organic, it rots.
This new shape resembles the ever popular Samsung 7 watch that I see everywhere. Making it look like a smart watch at a lower price? Clever Casio. Wife knocks it out of the park again.
Is this even available in the UK?
Thanks for the great review. It’s a terrific watch. This comment might not be well received, but this and the 200 (especially this one) feels like a Smart Watch. I have nothing against Smart Watches so if you want to wear one while you workout or for the day, I think you should. I definitely like the “classic” Casios better. Again, just my opinion. Thanks again!
Every time I think I don’t need another GShock I realise I need another GShock
Hi it's a great watch where did you buy it and did you have to pay taxes. ?
GBD 200 is the one to go 😊
It's amazing how Casio watches are all, all systematically beautiful.
the Casio window is populated by an army, an infinite series of watches among which even the ugliest of all, the one you like least, you think: "not bad!"
I really believe that they have a secret formula, a study of proportions like the Italian painters did 500 years ago, or before that Leonardo with the Vitruvian man, or a kind of golden rectangle, because otherwise it is impossible never to miss a line, never a design, when you design I don't know how many.
I believe that in these terms the results obtained by Casio are largely underestimated.
Hi, from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷. I have the GBD100 and I love’t
Looks fantastic.. I also am a fan of big flaps.
Where can I get this watch? It’s not in the Casio US website.
Casio - make this with SOLAR and I'm in!
What do u say about the new feature of smartphone supported gps?
I was hoping for solar also plus beep is annoying. They need to upgrade the module then I'll buy it.
Nice but I prefer the look of the 200
The only thing that I don't like about my 200 is that it tells me that I'm getting less fit.......
I think that they have removed the electroluminescence backlight from the dw5600 for a led backlight😭
Russ, just been on the UK G Shock site and it’s not there, are they not stocking in the UK???
Yes! Can't stand having to put on my glasses to read the time
No heartrate monitor?
Nice. If only it was solar
Are the modules the same? GBD200 has 3506, GBD300 has 3568. Do they have the same functionality?
Yes as far as I understand
