You can call my variation the Katy Wide Forefoot. After doing the "wide forefoot" steps (but adding a criss crossing through the upper center tongue loop on my way to the top), I did something extra. I did not tie a knot, but started going down towards the toes. I crossed the laces as I fed them down through the lower tongue loop on my Asics. Then I passed each one through the vertical loop on each side created early in the steps. I finished with a gentle bow. So the bow appears in the lower dead space where the laces did not initially cross. This did not tighten the footbox. I will wear them today laced this way and update if my variation is a failure.
I was looking for ideas for fancy lacing for my new custom painted shoes but your practical information is superior. I am going to mention your site on my f**book page. I will post a photo of my variation if it is a success.

You might have solved a couple of problems that can be addressed by lacing my shoes differently. I’ll be trying the lacing for high arches on top of my feet & might even attempt to combo with big toe pain. If nothing else, it could save me some pain as my toenail attempts to grow back again. My big toenails have had to be removed numerous times until my surgeon narrowed my big toe’s nails in order to alleviate constant ingrown toenails; he killed the root of the nails on each side of both big toe nails. And, it worked great for more than a decade or so. I haven’t had any issues with ingrown toenails in either big toe since. However, over the last couple of years, my nails on each big toe began splitting horizontally across the nail at, give or take, about mid way up the nail. It peels until the nail from the midline area of each big toe peels across the nail bed leaving pain & bleeding. As the remaining part of the nail(s) begins growing again, it starts to feel soft & layered. It grows until almost at the top of the toe then it starts at the middle of the nail all over again. My doctor has removed the nail a few times in hopes it will help but so far, the problem returns like clockwork. My biggest fear is risk of infection as I have Lupus (SLE), Sjogren’s, & fibromyalgia.
    Any additional ideas or tips?

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I've combined wide foot, heel slipping, and adjusted for having fewer holes. This helped sooo much for getting shoes working with hallux rigidus. :-D

Any suggestions on how to lace for wide forefoot and recovering from recurring right ankle injury? I do a lot of lateral side to side motions. Any feedback would be helpful!

Thanks! Now I just have to figure out which technique to use as I have both wide feet and developed toenail problems (but never the big toes). I do have more than a thumb width of space at the front of my shoes.

With Wide zfoot technique, what concerns or issue would there be, instead of running up the side 2 eyelets and just skipping the 2nd eyelet, then cross from 3rd like you do?
    Thanks!

The top of my right foot is very sensitive due to being stepped on by a calf years ago. Just bought a pair of Nike Woman's Flex Trainers and they are uncomfortable on that right foot. I've loosened the tases on that shoe was was wondering if you had a technique that would help me.
