Hey! I just got home the Brooks launch 9. And just as in this video, they feel a bit tight on the exact same spot. I have made the lacing technique but can still feel a bit of tension. Do you feel that the shoe got wider after a couple of runs?
Thanks so much for this tip, I bought a new pair of trail running shoes, and on the first run I had a lot of pain on the right feet because it was to tight, then I loose the laces but on the downhill I got two blisters, so I think with this hack I'll be fine, as I already done it, and I feel my toes a lot less compressed, and I can tight the laces as much as I want now without having that issue. Cheers mate!
Thank you ! So I have these fancy pair of converse not exactly running shoes but hey ho but they have been uncomfortably tight since the day I brought them, even though I've tried to make them loose but it hadn't worked. I brought some silicon heel guards that have worked but my toes still feel tight This method has helped me wear them !
Thanks so much it makes such a difference! I have bunions and wide feet. My left foot the shoe was so tight across the top I didn’t lace thru the eyelet on the tongue, so much better! 🙏🏻❤️
Another thing you can do to alleviate pressure in the midfoot is instead of crossing the lace to the other side, to simply skip crossing and instead pass the lace up vertically one hole on both sides and then keep on lacing normally. Also, if you have a bunion, instead of skipping the first two holes completely, you can just skip the hole closer to it.
I've only been running for 3 years and in that short time my feet have become deformed, my toes are scrunched. 2 months working from home barefoot and getting altras my feet have rebounded. Imo most shoes on the market are too skinny and even my foot is not deemed wide at the retail foot tool. I'm sticking with altras and will try vibrams in time
I’ve loved Altras. Used them for several years without issue. I just branched out to some other models to try but that Altra toe space is hard to beat! This lacing technique can certainly help when venturing into other styles that may squeeze a bit up front 👍 Thanks for watching!
yeah it's frustrating as hell. I think my feet are considered on the border of medium/wide and I swear 75% of running shoes squeeze the sides of my feet
This is good for other shoes except the vans those make it tighter for some reason but one way I did it was by put the laces on while my foot was inside the shoe and it feels great
It all starts with one step! After that it’s just slowly and consistently adding more steps over weeks, months, and years. Good for you for getting out and walking 👍 That’s a great place to be! Thanks for watching!

Sorry for the (very) late reply! I’m not super familiar, unfortunately, with “barefoot” style footwear to give you a good option. I’ve liked shoes from Altra that have the low to the ground feel with a nice open toe box for plenty of toe splay and wiggle room, but also provides good underfoot protection. Best of luck! Thanks for watching!
Do you ever have any issues with your foot bulging out the side? I have a similar shaped foot and was contemplating whether this was a sign of needing a wider shoe
Will this technique of not using the top (nearest the toes!) eyelets potentially help with numb toes?? I only experience it in one foot and not in all trainers and walking boots. Thank you!
It certainly could! If your metatarsal heads are squeezed too tightly by your shoes (usually right in line with the first row of laces in most running/walking shoes) the nerves traveling between the metatarsal heads can be compressed which may cause one or more of a number of symptoms, including burning, tingling, and numbness in the forefoot or toes. And of course, the overall fit of the shoe may just not be right for your particular foot shape. So give it a shot and see if it's helpful and let us know how it goes! Thanks for watching!
OK, so I've left the top eyelets unlaced, changed to thinner socks and I'm not pulling the laces so tight and it seems to have done the trick! Really glad I watched this. Many thanks! :)
I tried a wide version of the kayano but the heel area aint as snug then but toexbox is perfect. Dilemma for me. Snug and tight in the toe box or lose in the heel...
I have the same issue. I always blow out my shoes prematurely in the same spot you pointed out. I was thinking maybe elastic laces might help as well. Thoughts on that? I'm new to running and having tried elastic laces yet.
Elastic lacing could help allow for some give over that area. To be honest, I haven’t tried elastic lacing before. You’ll have to let me know how it goes! I know a lot of triathletes will use elastic lacing because it allows for quick transitioning into shoes without wasting time tying the laces. Thanks for watching!
@@FOREVERun As mentioned in my first comment, I'm new to running. I just started C25K last week (completed W2D2 today), so take my opinion with a huge grain of salt. I outfitted one of my shoes with the "Xpand no-tie round lacing system" (elastic) and left the original "standard" laces on the other shoe. I laced them both the same - slightly different from how you did it: lace across from the bottom set of holes, up the sides for the next two holes, then start crossing the laces after the exit the third hole. I also used the heel slip technique at the top for both. During my "runs" I noticed no discernible difference between the two as far as comfort or consistency, however, I suspect this could change over longer duration (perhaps better or worse) - time will tell. I was also running on pavement so didn't have the challenge of variable terrain that trail running would. I have some new shoes coming shortly, so perhaps I will continue this experiment long term to see how things progress with the laces. One cool thing is that I've been able to slip them on with zero adjustment and go, so if they hold up longer term, I may stick with them. :)
Michael Auskings interesting! Nice experiment! I can imagine the elastic laces are going to have a nice hug without feeling overly restrictive. And that box lacing technique that you did should feel pretty nice over the top of foot and reduce the pressure on the sides. Keep me posted on it 👍 Thanks for sharing!
