    People are going to be really surprised by the FE cooling performance. The biggest bottleneck cooling GPUs was the fact that there is a massive wall the the fans were pushing air into (pcb/backplate). There's tests out there where a basic CPU cooler was strapped onto a GPU die and temperatures were extremely good. Having a full flow through cooler plus the liquid metal is going to keep this card competitive with the 3 and 4 slot monsters.

      @MrDanberube 16 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      Yes and no. Their design isn't really different than cpu air coolers. Sure 2 towers cool better than 1 but most have around the same heat pipes as the new cooler design. 100-150w is usually what cpu coolers cap out at. Even at 300w it's going to be a big ask to keep the founders cards cool. Of course some small gpus have had power limits of 300-350 and done fine and these new ones will be more efficient at bringing the air away from them, but they will be far from 500w constant cards.

      @Malinkadink according to cooling tests reviewers just showed, your comment turns out to be completely accurate. 72 degrees C is not exactly toasty.

    Jufas...you clearly haven't seen Steve's incredible hands-on cooling results of the the prototype 4090 FE with it's 100% flow-through cooler design. At the SAME wattage, the prototype runs 20C cooler than the standard 4090 FE (TWENTY C), and was in the 40s & 50s under full load...it's WAY AHEAD of AIBs also..like not even close.
    The 5090 cooler is a scaled-down version of the proto-4090's, so I would ecpect similarily-scaled results when you account for the decrease in the size of the cooler. That being said, the 5090 has a much improved vapor-chamber and is using liquid metal. I am expecting it to have a 10-13C advantage over a 4090 FE at the same voltage.
    You haven't aquired one or seen a cooling bench on it yet you are drawing conclusions based on visual speculations? ...not too long ago if I recall, you were lecturing people who did the same thing regarding RAM speeds on the AMD platform. Let's draw our conclusions once the hands-on tests are done.
    If the 5090 version of the cooler scales, the it's FE or NOTHING if ruining on air...those 4-slot cooling designs of the AIBs are MONSTROSITIES...what a bloody Joke. It's that 2-slot beauty or nothing on air (if it scales)...I've got high-end RAID, high-end sound cards (not built-in rubbish), etc to go in.

    I don’t really understand the purpose of this video I mean, are you really trying to sit here and say that you think that all of the engineering and R&D that went into the founders edition model would not allow that card to maintain its temperature operation? I mean, has there ever been a previous iteration of their founders additions that have done this. It just seems like this is kind of nonsense speculation based on nothing.
    I do think you’re right when it comes to the water block specifically for this new generation because I’m afraid that the complexity of the PCB of the founders edition might make it take a lot longer for water block developers to come up with a user-friendly viable solution. Specifically because There are ribbon, cables, and structural elements that would need to be built into the water block, which means more materials that don’t actually do anything for cooling. It’s unlikely a real solution is going to emerge before lunch much less weeks after lunch. Or maybe ever.

    • @nimbulan2020
      @nimbulan2020 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Well you have to remember he always approaches GPUs from the perspective of max overclocking where more thermal headroom means higher clock frequencies. I have no doubt that the 5090 cooler will be able to handle the thermal load, but it'll certainly run hot and may not be able to reach the same peak performance as the far larger AIB cards. I do think the concerns about noise are misplaced since flow-through fans should be much quieter than ones blowing onto a PCB and Nvidia has made significant claims to this effect as well.

    I've switched to watercooling my GPU's some 6 years ago and I won't look back...
    I've put a Kraken G12+Kraken x62 on my Gigabyte Master 2080 Super 1 year after I bought it - and it continues to work even now in my wife's rig.
    And next I added double sided waterblock on my MSI 3090 Suprim X - a card that I bought 2 years ago as "previously owned" for about 875$. Undervolted it to 0.9V and it runs at 45-46°C in full load, in my very quiet rig, and runs games like a charm in 4k@60fps with a mix of high-mid settings and DLSS enabled, and no (useless) RT. Those 24GB VRAM work wonders for 4k too.
    My next card will continue to adorn the waterblock "attire" either from the box or I'll mod it on myself. The temps and silence you get from doing it more than make up the effort and some extra $$. I'd rather buy my GPU second hand and use the extra doh to cool it properly than splash a ton of $$ on a new but air-cooled one.

    Honestly I want to buy a 5090 to play single player games (often older games from 2016, or even older) with 100 FPS+ on a 3440x1440. So I thought I would get the FE and undervolt it to the sweet spot in terms of power/performance/heat/noise. So I hoped at that spot it would run rather quiet. The main reason for buying the FE: It will probably be the cheapest one for a long time. Since I want to undervolt it anyway I thought it would be okay. But seeing this video - Is this not valid for my use case?

      This card’s gonna run hot. Nvidia had to come up with a way to do 2 blow-through fans because they wouldn’t be able to make it a 2-slot card otherwise. The AIBs with bigger heatsinks and 3 fans will push more air with lower fan speeds, and they will be clocked higher. This is just the reality for these high power draw GPUs. It won’t get any better until this level of performance is possible with lower power GPUs in future generations. Just some food for thought. I won’t tell you which way to decide.

    If you can squeeze out the last 100 watts that card would have available to it I wonder if it can be done with a slider or would the Bios need to be flashed. I am also willing to be the refreshes or the next gen is definitely going to have more than one power port on it

    The way I see it the 5090FE is under clocked and under cooled in an effort to promote AIBs again. There seems like they've left a lot of headroom there for AIBs to put the clock speed up and to make quieter versions and the 5090FE is going to be louder than the 4090FE. The big problem with the 4090FE is it was so good and much cheaper than everyone else, why would you buy the AIBs? Unless of course you wanted one for a specific reason, but I bet most people just went FE.

  • @jonathanryan9946
    @jonathanryan9946 16 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    I'm not sure I agree that it will be THAT hot (though it will likely not be below 50c either in light work loads). After all they are switching to liquid metal, most gpu liquid metal mods ive seen on TH-cam dropped the base temperatures significantly. In some cases over 20c.
    Especially since many of these mods add in large copper blocks too. The FE 5090 will be using a large nickel block instead with a gaint copper vaper chamber behind it. Which isn't as effective as a pure copper solution but more resistant to the liquid metal galvanizing the copper.
    Now if they were just using thermal pads, yeah, I'd be agreeing with you. The FE would have been basically a space heater at only 2 slots.
    Anyway I'm going to wait for the reviews. Since after watching Gamer Nexus teardown on the cooler, I do think it has potential.

    Don’t get why it’s a big deal , no need to undervolt it and if the card gets cooler then the heat has to be dumped into the room so it got that going for it (I know t wise it’s not ideal but if it’s spaced that why then it should withstand it for a long periods of time )

    Hey brother. Question, do you think AIB's like Asus bin the memory they choose for products like their 5090 cards differently than Nvidia FE cards? Or do you think the memory performance/potential OC is roughly the same? I was wondering if that might be another reason to choose an AIB over the FE cards...

      This is my prediction: FE will be msrp, then AIBs will start from $2100 imo. So the low-mid tier brand cheapest models will be slightly more expensive then top brand entry models such as the TUF from Asus, will start from $2200. As for the top of the line models. I think the the Asus Astral will be $2600+ and the MSI Suprim will be $2500+. As for the AIO models, they will be another $300, so starting from $2800.

    In fact all Custom Versions will be limited by their power limit: 575 W/ 600 W/ 615 W, so 25 W won't make any difference to performance at high definition (4K). Whether you choose a basic Zotac or an Asus OC, if you're limited by the 600 W power limit 😅. After that, you'd have to be an idiot to design cards with so much cooling: 4 to 5 fans and the size of a brick to be limited to the same level as the others 🤣 the clowns. No innovation, apart from the Founder edition model.
