La belleza de los tuareg brutalmente contrastada con la irrealidad y absurdo suicida de la decadencia burguesa, magistralmente representada en los 3 gringos más la madre histerica con su hijo gay que roba el pasaporte; Bertolucci y antes de él Pasolini (de quien se reconoce discípulo y huérfano), Visconti y todos los grandes italianos, exploraron la misma linea. Miren atentamente a la mujer del tuareg: es una Mona Lisa, bellisima, casi una Madonna renacentista, los sombreros y trajes, las torres de adobe y miles de pequeñas cosas así por el estilo; la misma estética de la "trilogía de la vida" con sus mismos personajes. Pasolini dice en su célebre entrevista sobre Sabaudia que "no hay solución" y en su última entrevista agrega que "todos estamos en peligro". El film -poeticamente-, pareciera ratirficar lo mismo.
