I don't know, I don't think that Debra Winger was wrong for wanting to put her best into something, just to have it mixed with other types of liberal women who would take away from a film. I can't blame her as of thus far with these claims, Travolta, Gere, if what is being said about those two is TRUE, I can't blame her for that too. I read where Richard Gere was trying out for the part in 'The Lords Of Flatbush' and was supposed to act that he was trying to deny his feelings toward a female actress while 'Chico' (Perry King),was supposed to try and talk him into going for the female for a relationship. Gere was 'like a brick wall', (so to speak, as he was giving King nothing to work with), so Perry King switched into trying to take the girl from Gere and King ended up with the part as 'Chico' in it, where Gere wasn't hired.
All in all, I think I'm with Winger on this. 😁

Taylor Hackford, the director of "An Officer And A Gentleman" apparently has a problem with showing up on time for anything (wonder if he was always late turning up for work on that particular movie?). Only one person has ever called him out about it. The woman who ended up becoming his wife, Helen Mirren.

I'm not a big fan of hers, but she's a good actress. I think a lot of times there's friction between cast members just because they are thrown into situations where their characters are so close and they really don't want to be that close personally with the people they're playing with. Also, it can't help but be a contest of egos between the players. It's kind of like Marlon Brando used to say that it's just a bunch of pretty people playing pretend, but as in anything, whenever there's a culture people have a pecking order and there's always a struggle to establish one's place in it on every job. I think she did a good job when she was working. She made a good choice leaving the movie industry feeling as she does. I wouldn't want to have to work with people like that either. It's just the nature of Hollywood and performing dramatic artists.

He said, "That's funny, I thought you reminded me of Debra Winger...not just looks, but something else about the two of you." I was over the moon to hear that from him. Not just the extremely favorable comparison, but the compliment it implied. Dad didn't hand out compliments. I really miss that man. She had been sought after for several roles she turned down which would later become iconic. I believe one of them was Clarice Starling in 'Silence of the Lambs,' which, of course, would be inherited by Jodie Foster.

I think that was Michelle Pfeiffer who turned it down. Maybe they both did and ended with Foster.

@@basquat76 I'm about 95% sure I heard she was among several stars being considered for the role at the time. There's a lengthy list of key parts she rejected for movies that would become quite successful. She had wielded tremendous clout and respect in Hollywood at her prime. She also turned down the lead in 'The Accused' which ultimately went to Jodie Foster. Foster won an Oscar for her performance.

Jodie Foster was really good in "Silence of the Lambs." I can't imagine anyone else playing Clarice. Julianne Moore wasn't that great at it.
