So glad you checked this out! If you ever want to watch more J-Hope or other hip hop tracks from the other rappers in BTS, you can turn on "CC" to get the English lyrics.
It's also a good idea to let the MV play all the way to the last moment because BTS often leave a little surprise at the very end. This MV ends with the two of them up on the roof, and it's really wholesome. It's also the completion of the story being told in the video of J-Hope ignoring barriers (stop signs, exits), dancing to his hero underground, exiting the J-Z Bowery station (correct, it's not a coincidence) and then finally realizing the dream of meeting Cole. It's a dream he had since he first heard and danced to "Friday Night Lights" as a teenager.
J-Hope's stage name is in honor of Cole, and so is the name of his first mixtape "Hope World". BTS were inspired by "Born Sinner" when it came out back in June 2013, the same month they debuted. While they were promoting their very first album, they wrote a cover/remake using a sample and called it "Born Singer." They couldn't afford to buy the rights to the sample, so they put it on Soundcloud for free as an unofficial release in July 2013.
Fast forward to last year, when they were in a much better place financially, and releasing a greatest hits anthology. Guess what song is the first one on the first disc of that 3-disc collection? Not their greatest hit, or their own first single, or even their latest single. It's that previously unreleased song inspired by J Cole.
I think you would enjoy reacting to it! ARMY will definitely watch you. There is a live version they recorded last year in Las Vegas. It's a three song performance, and the name of the video is "Proof Live." "Born Singer" is the first song, followed by their latest single. Look for Anderson Paak making a surprise appearance in the back-up band for that track! Then there is a brief discussion and another song at the end. Even if you don't react on your channel, I hope you take 25 minutes to watch it! You will really enjoy it. Here is a link, or just search for the title. And remember to turn on CC! th-cam.com/users/live9sJ_I1lHpps?feature=share
J-hope released a second solo project which got him invited to replace Doja Cat when she had to step down from Lollapalooza. That weekend he got to meet J Cole, and this single was born. It's the last song from J-hope until he is done serving 18-months of military duty for his country, starting at the end of this month. He gave Cole the spotlight because he just wanted to dance to his bars like he did as a kid.

This is Hope’s last song as a gift to fans before enlisting in mandatory military service in South Korea. He’ll be gone for 18 months and the other members are also enlisting soon. A little background for hope is that he was a street dancer before joining BTS and J Cole is his muse. He’s shout him out as his inspiration in the song Hip Hop Phile and BTS did a rendition of Born Sinner and renamed it Born Singer in 2013. Getting to work with J Cole is a dream come true for Hope since he’s literally his idol. Thank you for being open minded, us Army’s are always expecting hate comments towards BTS whenever they collab with a western artist and the majority of J Cole’s fan base has been really respectful so thank you 💜
If you want to check them out I recommend the live version of Born Singer from 2022 Proof Live

Us BTS army (fans) will always show up for someone reacting honestly to their music. They're the biggest musical act in the world because they're all musicians, passionate about entertaining and consummate professionals. The "it's my call" on the billboard works for both j-hope with his decision to do his military service now, when it suits him instead of waiting on the government to call him up, as well as for J Cole with his thoughts about possible retirement. It's a bittersweet song for both fandoms... but beautiful. I think we should acknowledge too the skill it takes to rhyme in ONE language well (a lot of rappers cannot!) let alone in multiple languages. So Cole's verse was freakin awesome but I wanna give props to j-hope who flowed between Korean and English in his raps for the last decade, he's amazing. Feel free to check out his solo work and his fellow rappers in BTS, RM and SUGA, they're all amazing rappers and lyricists. Army will come along for the ride.

..i sense J Hope's passion in doing this video...J Cole seems to be a legend in hip hop nowadays..both of them form a wonderful collaboration...this video is celestial, artistically speaking. J hope's dancing is also extraordinary..it reminds me of the film Dancing in the Rain with Gene Kelly. The meeting between the 2 worlds is amazingly enriching.

  • @materoamoses4994
    @materoamoses4994 ปีที่แล้ว +76

Thank you for giving JHope an honest chance it means a lot for someone like me, who knows the path JHope & BTS gave walked.
As a kid JHope was an underground dancer, his love of hiphop music especially his idol & inspiration JCole is what led him to BTS as a trainee, where he learnt to rap with 2 other members, who were underground rappers - SUGA (who as BTS has collab'd with Juice World) & RM (RapMon - whose collab'd with Wale, Krizz Kaliko, Erykah Badu, Anderson Paak...).
JHope had a surprise meeting with JCole at Lollapalooza 2022. It was cute coz JHope was so nervous & couldn't stop fanboying JCole, so he has a lot of love and respect for him, he's the reason JHope wanted to be an artist, like his idol and inspiration. JHope is 1/7th of BTS - 3 rappers & 4vocalists) they are versatile as a group & individuals & cover a wide range of genres, but they have a deep love & respect for hip hop and this link below gives their reasons and inspirations.
BTS is officially on a break, as a group since males aged 18-30 have to enlist in the South Korean Army for 18 months. Jin (the oldest has already enlisted and JHope is next, this is his gift to his fans until he/they all return(s) in 2025. The individual members are doing solo projects and will all go 1 by 1 to make the 2025 reunion. Just wanted to give you a little more info this is JHope's dream collab and an amazing way to send him off and a special gift to ARMY. It is ironic that this track seems to parallel both these great artists lives!! Sending love & respect to them & you guys for this reaction. ❤💜
That billboard is JHope's message to us to remind us it was "His Call" to leave for the military soon, so he can come back soon with his other BTS brothers. They are really good people, himble, funny, seriously talented and kind (like JCole), but very underestimated & misjudged.

Not my worlds colliding! This is such a jam and I’m so glad J-Hope got to do this before he leaves, this is like the culmination of his career getting to work with his idol. And of course Cole is always gonna come with the heat. I think that’s why he got more lines, this was about J-Hope basically saying goodbye but thanking Cole for the inspiration so he didn’t spit like he normally would. Thanks for the reaction guys!!💜💜

since other comments are giving info on this song, i’ll give a recommendation and more info on jhope and the group he is in (BTS)
BTS is a 7-member south korean boy group under Big Hit Music, they debuted on June 13th, 2013. They have 3 rappers and 4 vocalist (they all dance, fun fact: Jhope was an underground dancer and the two other rappers [RM and Suga] were underground rappers before BTS).
if you check out more of BTS, you might want to compare the rappers of the group, but many fans (called ARMY) refrain from doing so because there is a distinct difference between their styles by something other than their voice. (they are excellent rappers, but these are the things *i think* distinguish them from each other)
RM: lyricism & poetry, he analyzes the world.
Suga: Delivery & feeling, he critiques the world.
JHope: Rhythm & flow, he visualizes the world.
each of the 7 members stand alone as great artist in their own right, they have their individual sounds. But when together they make art.
if you like Jcole, you should check out BTS’s cover of Born Sinner
best video has got to be a stage mix video (a edit of two performances together). They originally did the cover in 2013, but in 2015 they performed it and then they performed it again in 2017… in both performances they changed the lyrics to follow more of who they were in the moment. [just turn on CC/subtitles]

You might be interested. And he's releasing an OST for the docu-series with 6 songs. For more J-Hope, could you do a reaction to his solo song ARSON. It's literally FIRE 🔥 You might like it, it's old school hip hop style.
By the way, there were English subtitles on the video, you could have checked those out. It was a song for his fanbase before enlisting in the military, and He and J-Cole met when they were both Headlining Lollapalooza in Chicago, July 2022. J-Cole is J-Hope's Muse. I will link you his song ARSON and two previews of J-Hope's upcoming projects.

subtitles with english are available with cc. it's a shame they weren't turned on before reacting to a foreign artist so y'all missed what he was talking about to appreciate the message and why this collab was special. y'all also cut it off too early and missed the end of the mv where they met on the rooftop.

I'm so happy you are open to music in different languages. As a BTS fan, I know how many times they've been dismissed and ridiculed just because they sing and rap in Korean. But just like you said, in music language doesn't matter. Glad you liked it. If you want to know more about JHope, I recommend Arson. The video has English subtitles.

I loved your reaction. It did me a lot of good.
I felt bad after seeing another reaction from a guy who didn't know anything about Hope, but that's okay, you guys aren't that familiar with him either... BUT... The glaring difference is you showed respect for the different, in this case the different guy! The other reactor does not.
That's why I see you with much more respect and I'm subscribing to your channel to see other reactions besides those with J Hope and BTS, let's see new things together!
🇧🇷Amei a reação de vocês. Ela me fez muito bem.

FYI, J-Hope is the one that's whistling & not J Cole
As a kid he admired J Cole, grew up listening to his music and dancing to it as a hip hop dancer before he joined BTS, I'm glad you're watching this video, one thing I can say J-Hope out of respect for J Cole allowed him to have more bars for this video
    again his inspiration 😊

React to HIP-HOP LOVER and BORN SINGER by BTS. In hip hop lover (2014), J-hope shouts out J. Cole because the rappers name all their influences which include old school rappers. J-Hope literally named himself after J. Cole. BORN SINGER is the BTS adaption of BORN SINNER by J.Cole in 2013 when they debuted and J.Cole gave them permission to use it for the first track of their 9th-anniversary anthology album on June 13, 2022. English lyric videos are available on youtube since ARMY translates them into every language. Thanks for listening! :)
