Agreed; the first Sky+ box ever made! Production started in September 2001. The first Sky box was (obviously) the Pace BSKYB2200 from 1998, and the first SkyHD (then known as Sky+HD) box was the Thomson DSI8215, from 2006.
For some reason this video is now out of sync, ive just rewatched it and it seems my narration is totally out of sync with the video. I dont know why that is, unless i originally uploaded it as out of sync. I rarely rewatch my new videos until later on. Apologies for that!
These were set up as recordings before the box went up the loft. Because no power was applied to the box, whilst it was in storage, it couldnt do anything. As ive bought it back down for this video, the set recordings were still scheduled, but of course as time has elapsed past the date which they was on, the box had no choice but to mark them as failed. The box is sadly a no longer daily driver, i only bought the box down for this video. I havent discarded it though, going to keep it for as long as possible
I still have mine but I’m now gettting an upgrade, the music that they used to have in the background no longer works though. I think it’s because the box has been discontinued. 😂
Yeah probably. The newer models never could play the music as the EPG has changed significantly. I think sky turned off the music broadcast a about 3-4 possibly even 5 years ago. In my other videos i have some of the music in the background which i uploaded when it was still active
Wait hold on... don't you have to pair the viewing card to the digibox in order for the recording features to work? If so, how did you do it? Or was it already paired?
Nope i just removed it from our HD box to this box without doing anything and it just worked. Shame I couldnt get another card from sky, but sky have stopped providing additional viewing cards now
@@superlegendary not at the same time, as long as the card is plugged into a box it works. But soon as you remove it and put it in the first one, the one youve removed it from it no longer works
I know this video is from 2021 but still this is mind-blowing. The technology hasn't changed that much. Actually really convenient as you can you that old sky box in one room with the card then take the card out and put in your newer one. Now in 2024 it's harder to use old sky boxes because of SD channels being removed but you could still use 2006 Sky+HD box which is actually considered old now. Could you test Sky+HD if you find one? You first variant?
The first Sky +HD boxes from Thompson are also SD only you would need a HD box from 2008 or newer to get HD channels because the Thompson boxes are DVB-S only and the other ones are DVB-S2
@bluesnake4131 Recently been using my old sky+HD box from 2014 and it's works well and has all the main channels. My Internet is none existent so I have to use mobile date so having a offline device like the Sky + HD box is awesome. Everything else needs Internet these days.
Do you have a landine? I'm curious if Sky still operates the telephone number the modem uses (unlikely but curious). I'm not in the UK so I'd like to confirm my theories. Before you inserted your Sky Card you were using Freesat? Then if I understand correctly the card is proof of your subscription to the extra channels. It's my understanding Sky boxes only show one BBC or ITV feed curious if you could add the others to this box? I know there isn't much difference in schedule anymore but I think if I were to make a move over to the United Kingdom (I'm a citizen because my father was born in Scotland) I'd like to be able to see programs such as ITV Yorkshire's Calendar and BBC Wales Today despite likely not being located in either of those TV regions. I like seeing/hearing local news from areas I don't live. Gives different perspectives on things.
I took the sky card out of our paid box upstairs, thats why it displayed the paid channels. I think to get different regions of BBC etc you need a viewing card from that area. We have a freesat box, in the living room normally, a Humax one, and if you type in a different postcode in setup if you restore to factory settings, it will add the regions automatically for that area. For example say if i wanted scottish channels instead of west midland ones - i would have to google for a random scottish postcode, and that i believe will give me STV instead of ITV etc. I dont think its possible on this vintage sky box however
@@paulisthebest3uk Yea, that’s correct - if you don’t have a viewing card inserted - the box defaults to London, although you can manually tune in your regional stations, it is a bit tedious though, as you have to go to ‘Services’ then ‘Other channels’ to view them
I had a new standard def subscription in 2018 using my old sky card and a Sony SD sky receiver. £10 for everything apart from the sports and the movies. No frills basic tv for camping. You have to call them and ask.
as long as there is an active sky viewing card in, you can yes. The programmes no matter how old they are - are stored on the hdd inside however sky locks the planner so its disabled. With a viewing card, it unlocks the planner, thus making it useful again, and any programme you have providing its not on a paid service you dont subscribe to, will work
Aah the Pace BSkyB3000, absolute beast of a unit that thing is. Incredibly rare too, these date from 2001.
