This is the most (and I've heard many over the years) moving engrossing imaginative performance the Tempest I have heard. There was divine inspiration in Radu Lupu's playing this night.

На душе становилось всё чище и светлей,и слёзы благодарности выступили на глазах. Потрясающий музыкант! Художник! Спасибо, Вам!
Первый раз я слышала эту сонату в исполнении Генриха Густавовича Нейгауза и ждала повторения впечатления много лет (очень много)), но этого не случалось. И сейчас... Впечатление много сильнее, это не только мощно, но и стихийно, в финале почти демонические вихри рядом со скрябинскими "ласками" в разработке (по ассоциации). Невероятно! Спасибо, ADGO
Фигня. Хочется сказать, хоть тоже грубо. Послушайте, пожалуйста, Марию Юдину, есть здесь, это ещё та, царская школа. От лучших императорских профессоров. Реально у неё очень драматично и именно звук поёт. Не знаю Софроницкий или Плетнев играет это, но их бы тоже сравнить. Раду неплохо, у меня есть его пластинки ещё с сссра, но Юдина впечатляет больше.

What is the point of comparing Lupu's interpretation with others by "Beethoven specialists"? Lupu's is "WONDERFULLY UNFAITHFUL." We listen to it with joy and then return, with equal joy, to Arrau, Backhaus, Kempff. In heaven there is room for all the greats. And you can be great in different ways.
I think Beethoven's music moved Radu Lupu deeply but he couldn't quite find the artistic / intellectual /spiritual mechanism to fit this Germanic composer into his Rumanian framework of sensibility. Still, it remains a brilliant interpretation even it is misses the profundity which one gains from a German or Austrian pianist like Brendel, for example. Just my view, and I'm a great supporter of Radu Lupu.
In addition to what Zbigniew correctly pointed out, I'd mention two further things - a) although there's some truth in saying that Russian music often comes across with more intensity and meaning when played by a Russian pianist, that can't really be said about German piano music as many of the best interpretations of that music are or were played by Russians. b) a pianist like Alfred Brendel shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as Radu Lupu. There are rightly levels to this and Lupu's command, sophistication and sensitivity to music are far, far removed from Alfred Brendel's.

Если Вы предпочитаете прочтение Бренделя, это говорит только о Ваших предпочтения, но не об отсутствии "глубины" у Лупу. Я слушала очень много вариантов, у Лупу - космос, потрясение, из ряда выходящее, но не все готовы принять эту чрезмерность, как , видимо, и Вы.
