- This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. When you are drowned in unhappiness most of the time, it can be a little tough to wake up to the shiny concept of joy. He is here to tell you how to be great at, what you’re already good at. Watch him talk about “How to be Unhappy”.
Dr. Matthew Whoolery is a Professor of Psychology at Brigham Young University. He simplifies psychological concepts to apply them to real life constructs, garnishing them with a little humor before bringing them to his audience.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
Great presentation! Evidence Based. In addition, I will add three other most important skills to learn to be unhappy:
1. Always try to please other people no matter what.
2. Always compare yourself to other people.
3. Alaways seek permission from other peaople to do the things you need to do.
Kumbaiah Murthy that's exactly what im doing in the ward!
Kumbaiah Murthy. Staying in a relationship, you are not happy case you´re scary to hurt them

Honestly guys, I've tried his method and it really works ! I was very unhappy, thank you Doc.
So grateful that this gift of a human being shared his knowledge with us...such a beautiful human is he!
Great talk. Here's a quote by Albert Einstein I thought went well with what your message:
“A person starts to live when he can live outside of himself.”
The fourth dimension is "other people" .Just like Star Trek" to Boldly go! and make real discoveries!
This is the best TED Talk for me. Really unique way of delivery. And maybe because this matches my current situation.
how to be happy:
1. LEARN TO LIVE IN THE PRESENT MOMENT
2. stand up and move
3. serve your community
4. spend less time on Facebook
5. think about others and not yourself

This talk deserve much more
For some vulnerable kids or adults with self esteem or self confidence issues due to abuse or trauma needs to hear
‘Learning to love yourself is the greatest gift of all’
Of course, if you are a selfish person, you will take it the wrong way
If you never been loved, it’s difficult to love yourself and if you don’t love yourself it’s more difficult to love others because you don’t know what true love is
Made me laugh and I whole- heartedly agree with what you are saying. What a great way to get your message across Dr. Matthew Whoolery. Thank you!

Dissolution of the self/identity

Impressive talk Dr. Whoolery. Interesting take on an important current challenge many people face today.
So good!
I enjoyed this, it made me smile and laugh. Usually when I watch things to improve myself, there is a brief flare of inspiration then poof it's gone and I feel down. What's great about this talk is it doesn't make me feel a failure, so instead of feeling guilty about thoughts and actions. It's more a light-hearted haha that's weird let's do something different.
Great talk... indirectly he is asking us to be happy but telling that little upside down kind of.....
If you want to be really UNHAPPY, worry about what others might think of you.
Right, which is ultimately thinking about yourself. You're not concerned with what they care about, you're concerned with what you care about, your own social approval.
Or just keep thinking how UNHAPPY & MISERABLE you are and lose sleep over it
SO GOOD!!!!!
Amazing talk
I love it!! Thank you!
Great perspective. really enjoyed this one.

Brilliant! I really enjoyed this talk.
Looks like there's no hope for me: I actually found myself laughing and smiling at how you brought home your points ... and I really enjoyed your little jabs at psychology and Christianity! Carry on, Matt! And be sure not to let anyone sit on your lap ever again!!!

He said
Live in the present
Exercise
Spend less time on FB
Think about others not yourself
What wrong with thinking primarily about yourself as if you don’t no one else will do it as no one else cares ?
I do all of this on a daily basis, but I'm still not unhappy... Maybe, it's just my lack of expectations!
