    I bought a a 2nd hand 2005 isuzu dmax here in the Philippines and it still powerful and everything still works like the power windows front and back. No smoke coming out of the muffler and the body and chassis has only very little surface rust. We checked everything and no problem so far. Will keep an eye out for any problems but the thing is a tank. I dont know about you guys but if I have to trust a brand after this experience I would give it to Isuzu.

    Just bought the Mazda BT in tray version as I work for a living and needed a work vehicle, not a show pony. Companies with a long history of telling the customer to bugger off if they have post-sale issues were discarded from my choice. That meant Ford, Nissan and VW were excluded. Chinese, Indian utes weren't considered for obvious reasons (if you need to ask, you have no idea) and Ssangyong was also discarded due to financial weakness of the brand and lack of a decent dealership network. That left Isuzu, Mazda and Toyota. All three had supply issues however Mazda was slightly better in that regard than Toyota and a lot better than Isuzu. What clinched it for Mazda was the better specced work vehicle, unlimited warranty, better service intervals than Toyota and having a very good local dealer.

But, in my research for a second hand car recently, I came to the conclusion that every car has issues and every brand will put their profit ahead of the customer. Hell, even Hyundai with AWD issues with their Santa Fe, or the na 4 cylinder engine failing and them doing nothing about it.
      I still bought a Santa Fe btw.

      This is exactly how everyone should evaluate car purchase. Check how good is the local dealer for said brand and the availability of parts should you need replacements in the future. Not just bandwagon on based on sales and reviews of the hot new car with Baja mode that you might never even need.

    Is the D Max Active Safety too intrusive? Was all set to get one then starting reading about ‘steering wheels being turned’ and ‘brakes coming on’ and ‘alarms & chimes never stopping’ - and having to re turn it all off every time u start the car.
    As a platform I’m starting to consider a mid spec Hilux (2” lift, bar work, snorkel etc).
    Thoughts??

      Not at all. Picket up my LS-U last week and was thinking the same. I found it to be no worries including towing over 3 tonne on the weekend with everything 'on'. Even when testing the lane assist in an area with no traffic I didn't find it really intrusive at all, you really did have to be well over in your lane for it to cut in. The only adjustment I made was to the emergency brake assist where I adjusted it to 'near' rather than the default intermediate setting. This one does not change after a power down either as you are not turning the system off only adjusting the sensitivity.

      Sounds good on paper i.e. the power and torque figures, but it's coming out of a tiny 2 litre engine pumped up with two turbo chargers, that means it is a very highly stressed piece of machinery, and the reason it has the ten speed box is because it is constantly looking for another gear due to it's relatively narrow power band. I cannot see these things going the distance.

    I've done 50000k's in mine as of last weekend. It's a base model with wheels, bar and winch. I tow a lot and it seems to be holding up well. The biggest problem with all model in the range is the safety system. The lane keeping assist is horrendous when on rural roads and the fact that most insurance companies wont cover you if you are towing and don't turn these systems off is a farce. Isuzu needs a kick in the pants for not telling customers this little bit of info as heaps are buying these to tow. I called all the large insurance companies and talked to there claims department and all but one said if the manual says to turn these systems off when towing and you don't - you won't be covered in the case of an accident!!! All well and good but everytime you turn the key you have to cycle through a menu system that has been designed by a 5 year old. 23 button presses later you are ok to tow!!! Turn the key off and it resets (to get ANCAP ratings???). Seriously Isuzu! GO YOUR OWN WAY (once you work out how to!).

    • @eternallearner8185
      @eternallearner8185 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just saw this now, so it is an Isuzu you were referring to. Have to agree about some of the electro-dickerey that many cars have today, a quicker method of disabling these distractions would be welcome to me.

    • @JDMEVOVIGSR
      @JDMEVOVIGSR 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I also have a base model D-max and the safety systems are a joke. It's not even just an issue with towing, but you cannot even fit front racks to the ute as it interferes with the forward facing cameras! I have had the lane keep assist try and drag the steering wheel out of my hand and into the path of oncoming cars and cyclists. The autonomous emergency braking system has even locked the brakes up for absolutely no reason on numerous occasions! I have had to block the cameras to permanently disable the safety systems as they're downright dangerous. I hate the engine too... it's gutless, has massive turbo lag and the throttle lag is like something I have ever experienced. How these motoring journalists can vote the D-max at number 1 is beyond me.

    I owned 11 holdens in my life and two weeks ago finally swapped from my Colorado to a Ranger. The Colorado was the most reliable car I have ever owned only requiring a single hose and a door switched replacing in 270+kms, the Ranger was back to the dealer within 5 days with a huge oil leak, then the 2nd week (this week) it had a coolant leak,. They fixed it and then told me there was another leak and also said the engine needs replacing. After spending $55k I am now stuck with a shitty loan car that I cannot fit any parts to so I can do my job. Ford Customer service I believe is an Indian call center, unless they only hire Indian workers and give them scripts to read. I am so depressed about this.

    I will be in the market for a new ute within 12 months, living in the country tend to view the topic a little different to city "tradie boys", I need a ute as everyday driver in the bush as well as regular trips to Sydney 600k each way, and I want a car that will run well way past the warranty and still be good for years and years with an established reputation of doing so, not to mention a good dealership network that won't have dramas trying to sort or service the vehicle and easy for me to service after warranty. This alone gives me the indication of a hurried sell, The other issue I have is this claim of reliability being out standing yet there are many faults, weak ball joints, weak tie rod ends, many turbo failures, early differential failures, cracking inner guards, leaking rear main seals, there are many more and this engine is still a 4JJ from 2002.
    I almost bought one but I did not find it any where near as impressive as your panel and damn it is so noisy when you put your foot down.

    Its clear somehow Australians have been sucked into thinking these trucks from American style consumers are the way to spend your money .when in reality they are a major waste of metal ...a medium size car on steroids .....yesterday I had to help another housewife get out of a parking area that's several times I have had to assist people trying to park these steroid vehicles reversing cameras are useless when the vehicle is too big ....trays are too small rear seats really get used they are like ..." Oh my tradie neighbour got one guess I have too as well ...! So stupid ....a neighbour in my street sold his bt50 bought a tray back Toyota With double the space in back 30percent better on fuel ... and a Mazda 3 for his wife so much happier .....these tests are ok but far from practical ..trendy but useless. take the vehicles into town park them out surfboards and bikes in back go to underground carparks get the wife's to drive and park them in a real street instead of a racetrack ...test commentators are paid and given vehicles to test if they told the truth they don't get anymore cars .... hilarious......

    It's a bit of a ridiculous test as Isuzu build the Mazda, so it's a clone. The whole of Australia knows the top seller in this segment is the Toyota Hilux followed closely by the Ford Ranger. So why not include the top seller and the Mitsubishi Triton in the test also. Talk about selective comparisons only comparing the least popular in this segment. Car advice has really gone downhill in the past few months reviewing and testing vehicles that the Australian public buy in very small numbers you just have to look at the top 30 vehicles sold in 2020 even with a pandemic to realise this.
