- The interview with Paulo starts at around 12:35. This footage is only slightly trimmed down. I cut some mumbling I did behind the camera. This was filmed for the Epicly Later'd Chocolate Skateboards series.
Paulo is one of my favorite skaters of all time, so it was really special to get a chance to Interview him. I would have loved to have built this out into more of a normal EL episode, but for some reason it didn't happen. If you watch the interview you can imagine the episode in your head.
Individuality. Creativity. Progression. Paulo Diaz is skateboarding.
I only lived in LA for a little over 20 years ago but I loved my Paulo sightings. Sometimes at a skate spot, sometimes in the wild when I was stopped at a street light just watching him cruise down the street doing tricks 👍🏻
THIS IS WHAT WE NEED FROM EPICLY LATERD
Paulo gave me a Thrasher Magazine outside of The Playground skatepark in CT in 92 😂🤣
Why y’all worried about what he’s on? Doesn’t matter. Everyone is capable of healing and becoming Whole again. Some people vibrate too high for this realm. Often substances are a self healing tool at first and then it turns on you. Paulo’s skating in the Powell video got me so hyped to skate as a kid and watching Guy made me believe even a little guy like I was at the time could rip.
They're sheltered nerds who don't know what creative people are like, all they do is copy internet people. He's not on anything, dude has been around forever and that's how he is. Not your typical identikit American zombie
It’s also obvious what he is on… another thing is people from his gen of skating and much after skated as an escape, WAY before it was “cool” to be a skateboarder. Most of us skateboarded to escape our problems at home and inside our head… you can’t be token back so much when you REAL CORE SKATEBOARDERS fall under substance abuse… some people will always feel like an out cast, even i their own culture
seem like a chill dude
skated during that golden era
everyone has vices no matter what from drugs/food/gossip/social media/sex ect…
everyone is human intill where are put down under.
It's great here when Paulo tells us that the camera crew would show up at his house, film him playing some music and then use that music for his video part. One of the best examples of this is Paulo's part in 4 Cities. A true legend with a great story to tell!
Awesome thanks for uploading this! The highlight of my skate days was taking him skating around london in the mid 90's fulfilling my ban this fantasy - lovely guy was on a trip shopping for musical instruments around europe
This is precious.. his energy and expression has always captivated me. I first saw him in person doing a high ollie contest at ASR.. then years later I moved to DTLA and skated downtown a lot.. we crossed paths while I was out skating one day and it was unreal to connect with him! I'm really curious about his necklace.. it would be cool if he did a music project with Andre 3000 I think.... all my heart Paulo, keep going! Roof Access 1
The KING of LA street skating!
No but go off
What a trippy guy, definitely deserves his own episode I heard he’s doing so much better now
This makes my year knowing there’s Epicly Laterds.
This is incredible. Keep em comin. ❤
Paulo is a full Renaissance man. Inspirational…
maaan the drumming session was amazing.
kinda hit a spot when he mentions every motion has a name to go with it, kinda like in skateboarding, learning the language and then 'speaking it' or rather 'doing it' are 2 different things.
beautiful piece!
Dude, Paulo would get me amped to skate even on a rainy day! Respect to you G.
WHAT A NATURAL LEGEND!
Such a talented skater.
Blessing…thank you so much Patrick ❤
Loved the raw footage. Thank you for everything, Patrick!
The GOAT of GOATS. My humble opinion.
this is so rad we need more full interview tapes!!!
Glad Paulo spoke about Blind briefly. I thought that team with him, Henry, Lamar and Ronnie was sick..
I was there at Los Feliz. Witnessed his skills in person. Blessed to have been there. Los Feliz was the spot.
Growing up in the nineties skating and watching VHS tapes I remember Paolo doing a half-cab footplant on flat and he'd spin his board like a pinwheel, it was called something the chainsaw or buzzsaw, anyways was always intrigued by that trick. Goes hand in hand with the other creative sides of this legendary skater. Nicely done.
American Icon, National Treasure. Gold!! Thank You !!!!
Him and quim had such a sick part together. Super flowy
For sure Cardona was def another dope skater.
Honestly this was better and more informative than the original episode
The King of Nollie! Paulo’s Ep on Bluetorch back in 2000-01 heavily inspired my skateboarding! “Taking our simple tricks to another level”🤘👽🙏👽🙏👽
He's talking about Caesar Andrade from Glendale.
I remember skating with both of them at Glendale High School back in 88. Both of those guys were beasts even then.
Paulo was definitely clean at this point in his life. He's eats extremely clean which is why he's lean. His days of drug use were well behind him at the time this was filmed. I know this as a fact for all who are "ass"uming differently. Paulo U Da' Man!!
Legend Paulo Diaz
Awesome content,,, thank you for uploading
The legend of Pablo Diaz❗️🙌❗️
I remember seeing a Vid with Paulo and Quim Cardona on MTV in the 90s... I wish I could find it now.. they were just blasting switch and nollie and talking about the pursuit of just doing them perfectly and that was what they were going for... It was really, really cool.
Wasn’t it blue torch tv?
Amazing!
This is so amazing!!! Thank you!!
Legend, he had mad pop!! Loved his parts in Stereo and Chocolate! I used to have some of his ads on my wall in my room in jr. High
The rhythm on those drums, my goodness
Skateboarding never stops producing rad humans. Gratitude. Love. Peace. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Patrick you are doing the Lord's work, keep it up
thank you
bruh........i was thinking just 4 days ago, how yall never got paulo!!!!! this is sick, gonna watch now,.
i’m SO happy
I can see the love for his instruments in his eyes
Dudes gifted with rhythm.
and hey... you mister sunshine. Don't let those clouds come near. And then mister sunshine, don't disappear. You know I'm the one at peace. Don't let your children see. You light up my life....,
Something like that. The sound in the Stereo video with Matt Rodriquez. I think Paulo did the song. It just fits with all these beats he is doing.
What a legend!!!! 👏👏👏
I will always remember his fakie Ollie Airwalk down some stairs. Forgot which video this is from.
Paulo me and my friends usto see him skating in downtown he's the man 🙏
this is amazing
Amazing
He was one of my favorites him and the Cardona brothers
The nollie king. Paulo Diaz is a legend 🙌 🇬🇹
This is too sick
He could nollie over anything somehow, picnic table, your car, crazy
I think chocolate was originally supposed to be for Kareem & shiloh. Then once they stayed with world Rick & mike had to start chocolate around other people
🙌🙌🙌🙌The legend
Paulo is a touch neurotic (most creative trendsetters are) but such a GENUINE dude....Salute
You have done a great service here
Ollie Khan himself. About fucking time!
when is a painting ever finished indeed
yepppppp, keep em comin
Damn amphetamines! Hope "Pablo" is keeping it on the rails still. Such a weird and beautiful bit of footage. Good time for it.
TWEAKED! badass! keep turning that pipe and blowing clouds.
ahhh, yes, the flute. that's what I came for.
wow
I bet he’s spent days on end in that room
Real magic
What time was this filmed around?
Amazing!!! Thank you! Wish he or you would have talked about why they’re called “Chinese Ollies”. My theory: When we were kids, we used to talk about how China was in the opposite side of the Earth, ie. dig a hole to China. Opposite side of the world, they were completely different than us in the US, especially in the 80s, so…. Ollie off (or wheel bonk off of a crack) the opposite end of the board = Chinese Ollie? A bit convoluted, but…. So I really don’t think this is one of our archaic skate terms that needs to be politically corrected really. Not racist, just geography.
Even in the 90's we used "china" as slang for a knock off/fake/imitation connotation.
aw man...
👑
This cant be a Patrick Odell production, where's the footage??
its just the raw tape
@@epiclylaterd ohhhhh... kk. I get I now. You should find some old Jason Adams stuff, dudes due for a rebound here I think. Plus the kids love slappys these days. Lol
These are 10 years old they uploaded them
Who remembers bluetorch tv"?
The segment with paulo and Quim Cardona was so inspirational for me as a 14 year old kid.🫡
❤❤❤❤❤❤
WOWOWOWOW
✨✨✨
The homie hits the pookie
great artist and skater. sad to see him like this
Very interesting intelligent fella with many talents hopefully he doesn't let the amphetamines fuck up his journey, although he does look like hes having fun lol...dont do drugs kids 2 sides to every coin
No judgement but he has to be high on something here? 😮 Im a former addict so again Im not judging, he just seems like a good guy and Id like to see him clean but maybe he is happy..all that matters I guess..incredible skater though..
This is when people dont addmit to themselves that they have problem... Its sad. If he got clean get some help he could skate again, but you need to change first. Hope he gets help he was legendary
meth
Wow this was so hard to watch. Easily the best skater in LA. I wish you would just come out and say it , and admit he needs help. Watery eyes runny nose that's where my dreams goes Up In Smoke
No shade or judgement, but is he on something?
Yes
He’s just mething around
Meth
Heroin and later meth too
Really awesome interview but… is he tweaking?
Sad, I prefer the episodes when they over come drugs..
This is old I think he’s sober now
@@cigarilloarmadillo6833 Awesome!! Hope he can keep it up. Been down that road and it's so much better to get out.
