Season 7 and 8 super rushed. I will give D&D some credit I think they did a good job adapting the books to the show but they where just over their heads and gave zero shyts about doing more. It was rushed and we didn't deserve that. George didn't deserve that and esp. The poor actors.

      So much of what they played with in the show the isle of faces, the children of the forest, the entire white walker plot, Krasters bastard sons, the knight king himself again the whole white walker story line, Johns parentage, the lord of light, the chosen one azur ahigh, so much lure that they did play with and put in and just well to quote d&d "ugh just forgot" like Danny and the damn iron fleet was forgotten and rushed. Why even put it in if you are going to totally disregard all of it? Makes me so sad... They really ran this shyt like sonic raced it to the end and missed so much what could have been great story telling. That's what's most disappointing to me... So much wasted forgotten and rushed.

      How was Tyrion even talking in the first place? The goddamn writers clearly have contempt for their audience. They finally abandoned consistency and consequences from _scene to scene,_ and even _line to line._ They either think the audience is fucking stupid or they just didn’t care anymore, probably both.

    The problem is that D&D believed that what fans wanted was larger fights and more dragons, which is cool. But, up till season 4 barely had any actual fighting, maybe one per season. What carried the show was the character's motivations and how well they conflicted with each other, and i don't think they ever really got back to that.

    • @TheMurrmursonbottle

      I’ve been a pretty big defender of this season - not that it’s great, but that it’s not terrible. I’ll admit that the show did lose its magic, which makes sense, since GRRM is what made the show great, and once he’s gone, nothing feels natural anymore. The first four seasons were a masterpiece, seasons 5&6 were really great, season 7 was great and 8 was just decent. What makes the show feel so bad is that we were still expecting something really great, they took two years after all, but I guess ending something as world renowned and fantastic as game of thrones will never feel right.

    • @anja1627
      @anja1627 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cinema Gaming What made the show great was the compelling and great writing of the story and the characters. This is not a Hollywood blockbuster movie. But D&D are not talented writers. They just seemed cool and great in the earlier seasons because they had the books. When you look at D&D’s other projects, Benioff’s X-men and Troy stints should have already been a red flag.

      Lostin Thegarden Well Bran tells Sansa, Sansa tells Tyrion, who tells Varys, who then starts to plot to kill and overthrow Daenerys. And that’s one of the pieces (along with Jon’s “I love you, but not like that” move, and the deaths of Jorah, Missandei, and Rhaegal) that we are supposed to believe pushed Dany over the edge.
      D&D talk in the behind the episode clip that this wasn’t something Dany planned ahead of time, that she decided to “make things personal” as she was surveying the city and the Red Keep after winning the battle. But then we get that speech and the conversation w Jon before he kills her, which to me implied like her actions were premeditated, that she believed slaughtering the entire civilian population of a city is justified in the name of destroying the tyrant who rules that city and thus “breaking the wheel”. And she can’t see that that makes her an even worse tyrant than the one she just deposed, which I guess proves her madness, but to me it doesn’t fit with the idea that she decided to do this on a whim. I mean it takes time to develop these thoughts, and descend into that level of madness, definitely more than episode and a half.

I didn't feel that Tyrion needed to see Cersei and Jaime dead either. That could've been confirmed off screen like they did w/the Black Fish to Jaime. I agree with your opinion regarding Young Griff. My theory regarding Cersei's limited involvement in Season 8: She was playing the "Young Griff" role has at this point in the books. She could not really engage elements than other than sending Euron to do many of the things Young Griff/Book Euron was set to do. I believe that at some point, Young Griff infiltrates Kings Landing and deposes/kills Cersei (He is the Valonqar) and assumes the Throne while Daenerys is North fighting with Jon. He is the one who kills Missandei and is supported by Varys, which leads to his execution. So Cersei for much (if not all) of season 8, was simply a stand in for Young Griff.
    Put it this way, look at the sack of King's Landing and replace Cersei with Young Griff and suddenly Daenerys' fall out with Jon would feel more powerful because Young Griff's claim mirror's Jon's own, and more doubt could be placed upon both of their purported heritages, requiring lifelong secrets held by a few men. Like I said, if you are confused as to character motivations/endings, just add Young Griff and some things make a little more sense.

      @@jacktheripper1476 Thanks! The big tell is the Golden Company and the events that transpired to kill both Rhaegal and Missandei. The Golden Company literally did nothing. Why? Because in the books I believe that they sack Kings Landing, using Cersei's invitation through the Iron Bank as a front to gain easy access to the city and take it for Young Griff with minimal fight. But when Drogon comes in full rage, the Golden Company does not stand a chance.
      The show had to include them, because it is their presence that makes King's Landing more than just Lannister soldiers that already proved inept in defending against the same army in Season 7.

    I would have liked it more if Jon was king. Bran in Vary's old position, Master of Whisperers, makes more sense than being named the next King. Tyrion could be the next Master of Coin (come on, the guy has seen stuff, let a Lannister run the treasury and the brothels, in fact I can only picture Tyrion getting this position, or ANYONE besides greedy Bronn). Sam would be the next Grand Maester. Davos can be the next Hand of the King (the irony because he lost 4 of his digits on his right hand). Brienne being the new Lord Commander of the Kingsguard. Bronn, if we really need to give this guy a position, could be the next Master of Laws. There, your small council is done.
    As for Greyworm's forces, they really should have gone down in a fight after Dany died. It would be tragic for Greyworm. He was manipulated by Dany, but Dany was just his new "master", not leader. Greyworm dared not betray her. Dany never led, she only conquered. Putting Greyworm and the Dorthraki's lives on the battlefield for a throne that's suppose to be the symbol of all she's suppose to be against. If Greyworm died believing in Dany, it would be a good tragic ending. Same for the Dorthrakis, these nomad horsemen crossed the Narrow Sea on a false prophecy given unto them by Dany.
    Even if Jon doesn't want the throne, at the very least fans wanted Tyrion or Sansa to name Jon as the next King and reveal to everyone his heritage. Jon could decline and propose a democracy. This would have made better sense than to have Sam propose it since Jon has won his elections with the Night Watch and as King of the North before. But seriously, Tyrion is not a good hand. He was at one point but his arc as a competent hand has plummeted in terms of stock value.
    As for who Jon could elect as the next ruler, he could have elected Sansa. Oh and for the record, I know there seemed to be some budding romance between Arya and Gendry, but they really should have added some type of romance for Gendry and Sansa. If this love could have come to fruition, when Jon elects Sansa as the Queen, Sansa could have named Gendry as her King. This would in fact unite the 7 kingdoms and it would come full circle to Robert's foretelling of wedding his son and Ned's daughter to join the houses. If they had more seasons, after the romance with Arya falls through (hell it could have not happened at all; her plot was always about revenge and not one of love), Sansa could have fallen for Gendry if he did something heroic like saving her in the Great War against the Night King. To be honest, I don't see Sansa having anyone worthy to marry her except for maybe Gendry. Jon didn't have to be King, but at the very least have his heritage revealed to all, otherwise it feels like a dead character arc with the whole R+L=J. If his heritage doesn't get revealed and get his real name reinstated, at the very least let Jon kill the Night King. Arya could have gotten Littlefinger, Melisandre, and MAYBE somehow Cersei (she could have took the face of a handmaiden and drugged or poison Cersei, maybe a poison that induces blindness, maybe because of this blindness it's difficult for her to escape easily as Dany's forces corner her).
    Dany's fall from grace could have had at the very least 1 more season of development before the burning of Kings Landing. Olenna Tyrell and Littlefinger died too quickly in the very same season. As I've said before, these two could have mainpulated Dany behind the scenes. Olenna had always told her to not play nice and be a dragon, while Littlefinger could have been the one who ratted to Dany that Varys found out Jon's secret. Doesn't make sense for Tyrion to be the one who rats Varys out. Since Varys was the old Master of Whisperer, it would have made more sense if Littlefinger was the one who outed Varys. Only to have Arya kill him much later on after he's finished corrupting and using Dany. Bran Stark's arrival to Winterfell could have been delayed, and Littlefinger could have made an excuse to venture back to the Eyrie once the North had been secured, only to actually sneak and try to ally himself with Dany after finding out from his connections that the Mother of Dragons has arrived to Westeros. Littlefinger dieing at the founding of the new small council would have been more satisfying. If we see him trying to elect himself for the position of King with the backing of the Eyrie, Bran could have revealed to everyone Littlefinger's role in starting things in motion since the beginning. Arya's kill on Littlefinger should have been saved till the very end since he was never on her list and didn't know about Littlefinger's role.
    If Cersei really needed to be the big final boss, at least have her plan something, I just can't believe ballista bolts is all she had. She has a mad man that can revive the dead. She has wild fire at her disposal. Why not catapults or trebuchets of wild fire? Maybe have her Hand of the Queen revive more dead people after studying the remains of the wight or figure a connection of putting a dragon glass dagger into a human. He could have been experimenting with dragon glass after finding out dragon glass kills the army of the dead.
    Whenever I look back on season 7 and 8, I always wonder what could have been. But the final 2 seasons don't have witty people playing the Game of Thrones. The last 2 seasons fail in writing, dialogue, pacing, and a majority of the time common sense. The actors, the sets, and the crew were great, but the show runners did not do the story justice. Rather than having the ending in mind since season 1, it was contrived based on plot points GRRM told them and I feel like they didn't bother connecting these character arcs and plot points well enough to a satisfying conclusion. They can blame GRRM, but before they adapted it into a show, they should have always known that he's a slow writer. If they wanted to do the story justice, they needed to have the story they would tell down before season 4 ended. They had a span of 4 years, to plot the course, but they only write as they go. They only focus on one season at a time without the whole narrative in mind and wrote themselves in a corner the same way George did. I know they needed to move onto other projects, but the least the could have done was to hire on another show runner/writer to help tie things together and maybe carry on the show for maybe 1 or 2 more seasons. 7 and 8 are rushed and a majority of the time lack coherence.

      This is my imagination for the small council. Bronn whole subplot is dropped, Tyrion picks him as Master of War. But the first thing Bronn demands is where is my fucking castle. Enter King Bran he says council looks empty, Tyion responds we are looking for suitable candidates. King Bran responds curtly we don't need a Master of Whispers, everyone looks shocked then king Bran looks at Bronn and says 'Ser Bronn I am aware that you are looking for a home and a wife, I offer you the Twins, it is two castles which fulfills the promises given to you by Lord Tyrion and Ser Jaime and you will also find a wife amongst the Frey woman'. Bronn is stumped, Tyrion smiles and says wise decision your grace Bronn is pissed. King leaves everyone realizes Bran is not a pushover they even look frightened as there will never be any secrets from this king, in one stroke Bran both punished and rewarded Bronn's greediness as the Twins is a shit castle and marrying a Frey is no reward. Bran is wise in his robotic way, in his first political decision he shuts down the cut throat from further scheming and gives him a punishment in a form of reward to keep him in line. There is hope after all.

    Jon Snow is now The Last Targaryen. By killing Daenerys and swearing to not father any children, Jon has effectively ended the great Targaryen dynasty by his own hand, and launching the Starks to take their place.
    The thing to remember regarding to the Night's Watch is no one in the south saw it as anything but a hell hole to send the unwanted people. The actual "reason" for the Night's Watch: The Night King and the White Walkers, were never a consideration for why the Seven Kingdoms sent people there. So it was exile and service until death that was considered the realm's harshest non-lethal penalty.

    I completely agree that if we were given more seasons/episodes, many of us would feel a lot better about the ending but we feel unsatisfied because it was so rushed and they didn’t give us proper development.
    With that being said I still have a few issues with certain things. I dislike that they made so many viewers (on some reaction channels I’ve seen) feel sad during Cersei’s death and cheer for Dany’s death. Dany’s death should’ve still been tragic and sad although it was necessary and Cersei’s should’ve been seen as more of a triumph because of everything she has done from the beginning of the show.
    Also they’re justifying Dany’s madness by pointing out the actions she took on the slavers and the burning of the khals etc. Saying she was mad all along but no one feels that way about Arya considering she poisoned all of house frey and killed walker Frey’s sons and baked them in a pie and fed it to him!! That’s not exactly sanity. Had Arya had a dragon she would’ve burned house Frey instead of poisoning them. I would be okay with Dany going mad by her power but for them to use her past actions as justification without saying the same for all the other characters who did horrible things isn’t fair to her character.
    Also the Dothraki would’ve done something to avenge her. They wouldn’t have let Jon live. It goes against who they are. It just didn’t make sense that they arrested Jon while they were still on control.
    Thank you guys for your reviews/discussions. I enjoy hearing your thoughts. You guys are my favorite.

      @Crashdicoot 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      EP114587 you’re right. But that’s not what I said. I was talking about all of the things Dany did prior to that. To the slave masters and the khals she burned because they wanted to harm her. People are using that as foreshadowing her going mad but they don’t think other characters like Arya are going mad for doing equally brutal things to their enemies who are not innocent. Daenerys locked up her dragons because a child was found burned to death. She never harmed innocents before. She was always for the people prior to her burning everyone in Kings Landing. She literally sacrificed her dragons/children and put herself and her armies lives at stake for the greater good so many times.

    Also a few words about other aspects. Everything from directing to acting was spot on. Actors were fantastic as always. Especially Emilia. Even though Dany's descent into madness was written poorly, she managed to sell this narrative convincingly, and half the audience bought it. Also Ramin Djawadi's score was incredible. I understand the poetics and idea of having Bran as king. Essentially A Song of Ice and Fire is strictly written in POV's. One of the most important themes of the story is that there is no clear good or evil. Everyone has his or her own story and viewpoint. This creates the conflict which makes us see certain people or factions as good or bad (the good or bad invaders, good or bad Jamie,...) So GRRM's solution is some mythical three eyed raven who knows and sees all, and in theory has perfect empathy, because he can know (or maybe passively knows already) everyone's personal story, and so he has in a way ascended subjectivity and bias.
    On the other hand, you can flip it to a dark Bran-version. He knows and sees everyone, manipulates chess pieces to gain power. And the moment in season 7 when he gives back Littlefinger's famous 'chaos is a ladder' line could be seen as having a darker layer. It was not just something to startle Littlefinger, but might also be what he believes. Seen from this side he is an Uber-Littlefinger... Thinking of all possibilities and steering the chaos to create a vacuum. And then roll into that vacuum at the most opportune moment, with some hot Targaryen-inspired wheels in the mix.

      Bran seemed more like a passive observer knowing where this would all end up but kept his mouth shut. If he would have stopped Dany then cersi would be in power. He knew that Dany would break the wheel and he would be the only one to ensure that it would remain broken by setting a president, George Washington like. It wasn't any choice but he choose the lesser of two evils.

      Varys serves the realm. Littlefinger sows chaos to gain power. The Throne doesn't really have 1000 swords but men believe it because thats the story. As in "power resides where men believe it resides." And the realm is like the chair. Meaningless. It isn't one culture, it's seven cultures who believe themselves to be one Kingdom because people are all afraid of each of the other kingdoms joining the king to take them out. It's the same meaning as the riddle Tyrion told "A rich man, a priest, and a king walk into a bar and yatta yatta they try to get the sell sword to kill the others, who has the power?"
      And it's the sell sword, but the sell sword believes they have the power.
