Hey there all you beautiful people how are you all? Today something a bit different where I replicate a bayonet I have had for awhile. Came came out pretty good on the second attempt and I'm quite happy with this piece but no doubt there will be some mixed opinions. Anyway enjoy the video have yourself an awesome weekend and I'll see all you sensational subs next Friday😃👋🏻
Hello Mr BigstackD. For the pieces of armaments found from the Bronze Age and the experiments of experimental archeology (reproduction by trials of ancient methods) that the blades of great lengths were cast with a vertical mold and not with a horizontal mold. Gravity surely having a say. Maybe next time try this method. Have a good day.👍
I saw another TH-cam video the firebrick did get stuck and thanks to this legend, I wrote a comment telling him that a piece of cardboard would prevent it😂😂😂😂😂
Approximately 5,000,000 Pattern 1907 bayonets were made in Britain during World War I. The makers were Wilkinson Sword, Sanderson Brothers & Newbould Ltd, James A. Chapman, Robert Mole & Sons, and Vickers Ltd. The X on the Riccaso was a bend test mark… there were presentation ones of these which bore the 1907 date mark and are extremely rare. You have number 528 of 1000 …. Please don’t polish it.
The '17' stamped over the '1907' indicates a 1917 manufacture date. The partial symbol over the '19' is perhaps an '8', so the actual manufacture date would be 8th month 1917. The fact it's stamped with GR indicates it was made during the reign of King George (1910-1936), as opposed to Edward (1901-1910).
I love that you show the failed attempts. It brings a level of credulity to the channel and helps those following in their own garages keep trying after failure.
This video is different I swear this doesn't seem like him. The movements are different and the writing commentary is different. I've been watching his videos from the beginning. And something is off.
Un-FREAKING Believable! You are some kind of sorcerer! For no apparent reason YESTERDAY I started looking up & learning about bayonets! This must mean something mystical. Thanks for another engaging presentation!
I was watching Rainman Rays Repairs, he put in a cutaway clip about batteries running out, it was the camcorder bit in True Lies(1994), I'd just randomly watch that movie the day before. Maybe the stars are aligning... He has an uncanny knack for picking cutaway clips most of us were thinking about, you know when a random comment makes you think of a movie..
Something you said is bothering me. “…I’m a melter not so much a maker.” You’re wrong. While the elitist gatekeepers of foundry work love to rag on people who “just make ingots,” you have shown millions of people around the world the joy that comes from this hobby of melting scrap metal and making a shiny bar, with sprinkles of castings thrown in, and there are hundreds if not thousands of us who finally took the steps to get started in this very hobby because of your videos, me being one of them. Your video style is impeccable, it has a clear structure from start to finish and is consistent in its storytelling. You are a “maker,” you “make” people happy every Friday morning when we see the notification pop up that you posted. You “make” entertaining videos that help goofs like me stay organized in my head so I can continue to learn about melting and casting. And us dog parents love the chance to see Ingot and Bullion, so you “make” us happy to see how much the doggos love you. Just my two cents. Have a great weekend D.
Awesome melt Big D! That bayonet looks awesome! I have a pretty good idea of what the BIG melt will be, picked up a lot of hints over the last few weeks! Have an awesome weekend mate!
I love bronze imagine how the Greek and Persian armies must have shone. I though that it came up really well - everything I've seen on casting swords the pour is done vertically.
+I was stationed in Okinawa back in late 1950's/early 1960's. I munched on those octopus 4-5 days a week. Made me hungry seeing them again. Thanks! Love your vids. Keep them coming. I'm a country boy in upstate New York.
Just spent a week cleaning my shop of clutter. The job never ends. Just under 445 SQ Meters. I stay up late to catch you new post up here in Oregon. Great work as always. Thanks JIM
Great episode! You are quite talented and always entertaining. You're quite the artist. Even the ones you consider failures have character. I hope you continue to do this. As long as you do, I'll continue to watch. I would never ask you to do something like the Buster sword, which is a 6-foot-tall, 2-foot-wide monster sword (but really awesome), but anything to do with Final Fantasy VII would give me a "squee" of delight. Maybe the wolf symbol or even the main meteor-planet symbol. Would love to see that.

That bayonet you drew at the end, I have one exactly like it. I want to say it's Swiss, but I might be wrong. It's been a while since I've looked at it. It's in my basket of "real" (not the cheap ones you get from a flea market) knives that I have collected over the years. I love me a good copper pour. It's like pouring Tang.
So happy you're finally making something out of my favourite alloy (at least, among the ones you're able to make), proper copper/tin bronze. I always find myself shouting at casters, especially those who specialise in weapons, like Alumitube, "Make it out of bronze, FFS, at least it was a material that WAS used in weapons. You'd have been unlikely to find an aluminium sword... I know you're hardly likely to find tin while scrapping though, so I guess that's fair enough.❤
Very true an aluminium blade would break on any type of hard impact so at least ornamental aluminium ones look good at least. I reckon I’ve been through 1000 scrap bins in my time and I have never once found Tin unfortunately . I need to get all my Tin off eBay and it’s certainly not cheap👍🏻
Hello Mr. bigstackD Casting, Love your videos on TH-cam. I love your doggies I got two Chihuahuas, one is 13 years old and the other is almost 1 year old. 13 year old keeps up with the 1 year old. They play so well together. Keep making awesome videos and I will watch. Shout out from South Carolina in the USA, Peace Dude.
Love the new idea. Refreshing. I always love seeing you disassemble stuff and make it melt, but this was a welcome change. Side note: all those flames and wood near each other seems like a risky idea
Amazing video as usual. I'll say this, for someone that is not a maker you did extremely well with the bronze bayonet. May have had a few imperfections, but you did a masterful job. Thank you for posting this, again, I truly enjoyed it.
I see some comments complaining about this being an antique etc. People should know that there are likely still millions of these in circulation and they cost around £60-90 and can be found easily both in street markets in the UK or online. They are not rare at all and were mass produced as cheaply as possible. Nothing to worry about damaging or breaking.
Without being an expert I would say that this bayonet looks a lot like the English bayonets model 1907 of WW1 . I write this with reserve. Greetings from France.
Man I am absolutely hooked on your channel. I'm now turning my garage into something like you have. Keep up the great work and I'll be back for my awesome tips from the G.O.A.T
don't know enough about the first bajonet but the one that you had on the table is the "Swiss army bayonet m57" that goes on the Assault Rifle 57 and was first issued in 1957. they made about 740000 of them. quite interesting to see one has traveled so far :D
Great episode. You sell yourself short. That replica looks amazing. The flaws make it authentic and original. BTW... My wife and I frequently watch your episodes together. Lots of great content. Keep up the great work.

Your shows are always satisfying and calming. Also, baby octopus is my favorite food on the planet. Good show. Ahhh..

Thanks to this channel there's no chance I'll ever forget that cardboard under crucible stops firebrick from sticking, and I don't even melt stuff.
Yesss!
I saw another TH-cam video the firebrick did get stuck and thanks to this legend, I wrote a comment telling him that a piece of cardboard would prevent it😂😂😂😂😂
Even my wife knows I watch every Friday. She affectionally calls BigstackD "The Melting Man."
My family refers to Bigstackd as "il tizio del metallo" which pretty much translates to "the metal dude"
Haha nice
I always love how you collect the shavings and dust. It's such a small thing but it just feels good to see as little metal going to waste as possible.
Yep, every part of the pig, as the Southern expression goes: nothing goes to waste.
Really shows you that he cares about his materials, and him doing this type of compartmentalization really makes for interesting videos
@@jeremy6176 I think he remembers how hard he worked to get the scrap that dust came from.

Interesting - where is the X and can you shed any light on the other marks - was it issued in 1917 or 1923 Are the other stamps arsenal marks?

Have to agree, failure is important to show.
