This popped up in my feed after seeing a litter box cabinet at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Also you should get him a tiny welcome mat so he can wipe his paws after he's done.
I had a litter mat at one point that said wipe your laws on it. I can't remember if that was the Dollar tree one or the fancy litter trapping one for $4 bucks at Walmart. They do help but aren't perfect. Bed Bath & Beyond gas an actual litter cabinet you don't have to diy? Nice! But I bet it's expensive.
In past, whenever I brought a new kitten home, I simply dropped it into the litter box. Knew where it was even if moved. Cats love small places so they'd be sure to discover it soon enough. Cool idea. And loved the suggestion for outside vent...perhaps a lit fan to assist. And yes, motion detection for led light. All to gild the lily!
CurveTheRain right lol I wonder if the cat accidentally ran face first into the left side at first before figuring out the opening moved to the other side
The door wasn’t bolted in yet, which is why the hole was on the left. When he screwed in the door, the hole is on the right because it had to be flipped around...
I did, also - at first I was like - wait - thought he was building this for him / his cat -- is this in someone else's home and he is building this for a real customer -- then OH... got it!
I used to have cats and dogs. Of course the dogs wanted to not only eat the cats food, but also eat their poop. Someone down the street was remodeling their kitchen , so I salvaged a 3-door base cabinet. I pushed the base cabinet up against a wall, that butted up against a wall in my laundry room. I bought a "cat" door at the pet store. What made it a "cat" door was that it had a magnetic latch on the lower part of the door, activated by a mouse shaped magnet that went on the cats collars like a rabies or name tag. Only the cats, (with the magnets on their collars) could activate the latch on the door. I jigsawed out the panels on the base cabinet doors and stapled screen over the openings. I kept their food at one end, and their litter box at the other end. Cleaning the litter box and feeding them happened from the garage side. I left my garage door open most of the time I was at home except after dark and in the winter. The cats spent most of their time in their "veranda" enjoying being outside. It was a great solution to not have the mess and smell of the litter box inside my house. When the house was sold, the buyers had 2 cats and thought the system was ingenious. I left the magnets for their cat"s collars because I had to buy a new cat door for my next house.

This is an awesome idea for a litter box. I love the way he was so patient with his cat to introduce it to the space without forcing it. And because of that the cat loved it. Well done 🐱 Edit: typo
Nice job 👍 My litter box is in the basement, but as the cat ages and can't do the stairs as well (or gets kidney problems and has to go more frequently) this will be a nice alternative to keeping the box in the bedroom. I keep a laundry hamper in the bottom hall closet, that can go anywhere else and that spot is perfect for something like this.
Muy bien solo hay que abrirle un poco más al vidrio de arriba y superrrrrrr que bonito espacio felicidades michi tu hojar propio y mucho ojito por si se siente mal hay que visitarlo diario muchas veces al dia ❤
A trail of catnip into the space probably would have worked, too. Very nice job. And, btw, as someone who's been in cat rescue for 15 years now, I'd highly recommend you wash down walls inside with soap and water about once a week. Invisible droplets of urine rise up and get into walls. Over time, the space could well start reeking of urine even though you have some ventilation with door and top part of acrylic. I learned this the HARD way by having my drywall start smelling of cat urine even thought my cats were using the litter box and not peeing on the wall/drywall.
I know cats can see through the dark at night. But just to be safe, in case you turn all lights off during the night, you should put a small light inside the cabinet for the cat.
@@mariahr8595 Cats only need 1/6th of the light humans do to see in the dark, however if it's completely dark they cannot see. Just google it and inform yourself, it's not that hard.
They make the motion activated puck lights, but really just a nightlight in the hallway would be way more than enough. Cats see by movement, and are not as dependent on light, like the inferior (all of us!) boom and. Not to mention, before long it becomes a sensory movement; I sleep in an eyemask and can manage a pitch black potty break if needed. Kitty will be fine if he knows the way, and they have done an excellent job of reinforcing that. Kudos!!
Lovely Biscotties unless you are in a cave underground, you will never experience pure darkness. Cats don’t need nightlights, and in fact putting a light in such a small space might mess with their night vision for a while.
If you're seriously thinking of doing that you need to clean the litterbox WAY WAY WAY more often. If even a human can smell it, it would be awful for a cat with their much more sensitive noses to have to go in there. And they even have to step in it.
Why do every cat Owner and non-cat owner feel the need to tell another cat owner that they'll need to clean their litterbox out more often? Don't you think they know that?

This is perfect for the NY’er who lives in a 20 sq. ft. apartment. When I get my own place, I’ll probably be doing this task in a similar fashion. Thx.
My house has laundry machines in a closet in one of the bedrooms, there’s still plenty of closet space next to it but I use that room as a den and put a covered litter box on a table to keep the dog out. I like not having to bend down to clean it, and the table is big enough for extra litter and a bag of food in a sealed container as well as a small lined can for box debris. Closet has 4 sliding doors on a track so I just keep one from closing with a block of wood. I have a bathroom mat in front of the box but she still manages to spread litter onto the floor.
The thing is .. your litter should be in the most commonly occupied room of the house. Where ever that is .. for me its the office .. most families its probably the living room. I see this stuff and then ppl complain about inappropriate peeing ..
Love this idea!!! Food for thought! I would have made a plastic swing cover out of clear vinyl for the opening to help contain the odours better. & a colored plexiglass, to add a little pop of something & some discretion. Love it! Definitely gives me some ideas ❤
That is excellent I wish I had such space. I think a vent would do well to get the odor out. Currently I have an entire bathroom dedicated to my 4 cats litter boxes.
I'm a pet sitter and one of my clients had a similar setup. They had the little door built into their laundry room closet. It sounds good in theory, but what happens is the humans forget to clean the pans. Out of sight, out of mind. At least yours is visible, and not so easily forgotten.
I once accidentally made an in-cabinet litter box. I'd set a large plastic bowl of sorted dry beans in a bottom kitchen cabinet, intending to soak and cook them. Before I got to them, my Siamese kitten found the old cabinet door was easy to pull open, and he'd happily used what he assumed was his second litter box. All I could do was laugh. Poor little guy was frustrated when we installed magnetic closures to keep him out. Great idea to create a small 'room' for litter setup. 👍
That was nicely built. I would take it to next level and make the base of the cabinet so that you could pull it out with the litterbox so you dont have to bent down on your knees to clean it, like pantry cabinet.
Great use of space and that its out of the way AND has a stinky smell blocker (door) makes it an all around perfect solution for a Kitty box. I'm a little jealous I'm gonna look for a cupboard that we will no longer use and put my husband to work lol

What an awesome solution!! Kitty seemed to take to it really well! I love my Litter Robot for my two boys!
You, sir, are so so talented!! What a fabulous idea!!
Not sure why this popped up in my feed but I’m subscribed as this guy is my dream guy
You must be a great guy, you are nice to the kitty! Great idea!
All houses should come with a "kitty cabinet"! I like your use of the space.
You litterally have the perfect spot that was already made to put a litter box in! So lucky!
What a cute video. There is nothing sweeter than to do something sweet for your pet. Love ❤️ it
It’s like this weird cat bathroom with 0 privacy so everyone gets to watch my man poop.
Well considering the litter box was prolly just in a corner somewhere its still better lol
Funny thing is cats like to have an escape route. He probly likes his minimal privacy set up
Cats like to go potty in areas where there is a lot of traffic. Basically they want you to watch haha
The thing is .. your litter should be in the most commonly occupied room of the house. Where ever that is .. for me its the office .. most families its probably the living room. I see this stuff and then ppl complain about inappropriate peeing ..
What a great idea. I don’t have a closet like that , but I think I’m going to designate one side of the sink cabinet for my 🐈.
Love this idea!!! Food for thought! I would have made a plastic swing cover out of clear vinyl for the opening to help contain the odours better. & a colored plexiglass, to add a little pop of something & some discretion.
Love it! Definitely gives me some ideas ❤
Fantastic. I had a cat called Gus, white with black spots, almost exactly like your Gus!!
This is pretty dope! Gus seems to be a discreet cat. Very smart lol.
Love it! Here's a small tip that might make scooping a bit easier. Put a pull out gliding board under the box...
This is great! We have a creepy under stair space that I'd love to open up and convert into a litter box area
Very cool...I would love something like that for my babies...Gus is a lucky boy!! 😻
Nice job. That is the perfect litter box area. The kitty comments were hilarious.
I did a similar build but added a battery powered motion wall light. It's dim tbh, but provided some illumination that wasn't disruptive.
Nice build! I would use some of the space over the litter box for extra storage, like cat litter and such.
Hmmmm. Excellent idea. Even cutting a tall cupboard in thirds. Especially like the acrylic front panel... 😎💚
He has his own bathroom, more private aswel ,sure they deserve that,so adorable and intelligent 👍😸
Great job! Your kitty looks like my grandkitty. So cute..
You did great! I need this in my room for the cat. Less mess and odor.
Very clever design. Nice work!
Wow this man is talented . And loving to the cat X
Awesome idea and loved the tools you used. Looks easy to DIY.
Awesome! Lots of love went into the litter box unit! You rock dude! Your cat luvs you!
That is excellent I wish I had such space. I think a vent would do well to get the odor out. Currently I have an entire bathroom dedicated to my 4 cats litter boxes.
Wow this is such a smart design! When I own a home one day I want to do something like this.
I'm a pet sitter and one of my clients had a similar setup. They had the little door built into their laundry room closet. It sounds good in theory, but what happens is the humans forget to clean the pans. Out of sight, out of mind. At least yours is visible, and not so easily forgotten.
That's a HUGE cabinet! I cant fit into any of our cabinets 🤔😂😂 I am jealous of your cabinet space!
Love this! Gus is one lucky boy. I wished I had a space that this would work! Thx u
Great job !! Question remains on ventilation though. I would have to leave door open most of the time...
And some kitty tp & maybe some reading material. 😸🐾😻
Best kitty privy, ever!
That was nicely built. I would take it to next level and make the base of the cabinet so that you could pull it out with the litterbox so you dont have to bent down on your knees to clean it, like pantry cabinet.
What a great idea. My baby girl would love this.
Genius idea! And adorable too! I hope to do the same for our cat. Thank you for sharing your DIY with us.
Great use of space and that its out of the way AND has a stinky smell blocker (door) makes it an all around perfect solution for a Kitty box. I'm a little jealous I'm gonna look for a cupboard that we will no longer use and put my husband to work lol
