- Welcome to Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries DLC "Call to Arms" playthrough. In this video I will show you the gameplay of a full missions as well as the MechLab where you customize your Battlemechs. Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries is a game about stompy Mech action. You take command of a mercenary company and try to grow your income, salvage Mechs and hire Mechwarriors. The game includes a campaign with a vast storyline.
This DLC is all about Melee Mech Combat. With new Melee focused weapons like hatchets, axes and swords you can dominate the battlefield in close quarter combat. Apart from a bunch of new Mech Variants a new Mech joins the ranks of Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries: The Hatchetman. This 45 ton Medium Mech can cripple enemies with its Autocannon and Medium Lasers at range just to close in and take components with its Hatchet.
The gameplay is split in two different parts. On the one hand you will have to manage your resources, hire new crew members, outfit your Mechs and travel through the Inner Sphere star map. But the action starts as soon as you get into the cockpit of your Battlemech yourself to fulfill contracts on the battlefield to earn more C-Bills and progress the story. I will review the weapon systems, battlemechs, show you how to build the loadouts and train your pilots and take a look at all the different mission types and upgrades of the MW5 Heroes of the Inner Sphere DLC.

Is it perfect? Nowhere near.
Is it the work of unfathomable incompetence? Absolutely not.
It's a great game out of the gate and has huge scope for improvement/alteration through mods if that's what you want.
Glad to see another mod ecosystem being showcased! As much as I like merctech, I know that Magnum's pulling a complete rehaul to make co-op playable, therefore I'd have to wait a while to play that again. That being the case, I'm using YAML until a somewhat stable MTv3 is released. Godspeed Magnum, and glory and riches for you, Baradul!
is this list of mods baradul is using Coop compatible?
@@grantbrown1695 I'd have to watch again, but I believe it is, because unlike merctech yaml has no custom projectiles (that I'm aware of). MT's biggest coop issues were the custom projectiles, as well as the fire rate/damage per round syncing for host/client.
I want to thank you for bringing back my love of Battletech and Mechwarrior, I have owned all of the older games, and this just makes me smile.

Any way to use steam workshop if I bought the game through GOG?
As an addition to this comment: sadly some modders only keep NexusMods version up to date. TTRulez_AIMod2 is one example of this: the 6.1 version available on steam is almost year old and is bugged, causing the AI to act even worse than vanilla AI at times. The Hellfire and Brimstone mods are another example, with supposedly big performance fixes in the latest version that wasn't uploaded to Steam yet, after roughly an year.
@@JushakF Hellfire and Brimstone are on nexxus also not updated, not possible to play with it ..... otherwise u like Gamecrashes ....

I've just seen someone play this game and the day later bought it and the career mode DLC. I can't believe I've never seen this series before, the thrill of being in the cockpit while the terrain and battle breaks apart just wow. This series is 100% going to be helping me understand the game and be a better pilot

YES! YAML and the clan weapons are essential to this game. You can't talk about 'end game' untill you have 4 Atlasses with ~175 alpha and >50dps using clan heavy improved medium lasers, c-uac10 or 20 and some nice c-lrm15's with ~1600m sensor range

HELL YEAH! I'm so excited for you to play YAML and associated mods! YAML is my preferred way to play, not as hardcore and technical as MercTech, but more detailed and free than vanilla! For me, who wants that in-between sim it's exactly what I want.

Boy I’m glad I started in campaign. Gives you a 50t Centurion with an Ac10, LRM10, and twin medium lasers. I did my first couple missions just by myself to save on repair costs.

Just started my own YAML playthru after seeing how much fun you’re having, Baradul! Also using the vast majority of your recommended Mods + Coyote Missions. Man its sooo good!

When you salvage parts it will only use shares once per mech, not per part. This isn't immediately obvious since it looks like it will use shares for each part. It's a great system since it makes it rewarding to incapacitate a mech with minimal damage so you can gain as many parts as possible :)

FYI every time you salvage stuff on the battlefield, holding E, you always pick up ammo for whatever weapons you have. you picked up 384 rounds of MG ammo at the end of the last mission.

Mod options from Nexus let you turn down tank turret and VTOL hp to basegame, and bring back vanilla SRM/LRM behavior where they fall to the ground instead of blowing up in midair MWO style
I've been enjoying your Roguetech series and thought I'd look at this as well. Just bought this about a week ago and am so glad that a modder "RogueTeched" MW5. That said, one of these, and I need to do some checking to figure out which one, royally screwed the night vision. I just had a mission where it was pitch black, even under night vision. I have somewhat substantial IRL experience with earlier generations of NVGs, and even with 20 year old technology, it's never pitch black under goggles. I may end up disabling whatever mod did that, but otherwise, really loving your mod list and looking forward to the mayhem!
Yes more stompy much stuff to watch. I need to start saving up for a decent PC, want to play 3062 so bad. MW5 is good and I enjoy playing, but I really want the feel of turn based old school BattleTech dice game that 3062 brings. And being able to build your mechs the way you want, instead of having the locked hard points in MW. Another fun episode Bara 👍🤘
Coyote mission pack mod provides new missions. He created missions with 250 difficulty ratings. :)
This makes me hate my PS4 so much. Mods look so good for this game.
Mission 2: This is where Mechwarrior fails. Hired to defend a farm. Destroys the equipment, fields, and the enemy. Mechwarrior really needs to step up and make a real RPG.

Why 'defending a farm' is always a thing in this game? I remember the same mission from Mech Commander.
I mean… when you have massive factions, you gotta keep them all fed. Attacking enemy farms is a good way to hurt them so naturally those factions would want the farms defended… and even if the farm is destroyed, so long as the enemy is destroyed they can’t go and destroy another farm.
@@ProjectDT88 No one has ever done a proper Mechwarrior RPG. For example, in a contract for base defense, it would be fun and interesting to have some native static defenses, scouting elements, and "enters on turn x" based on the unit's discipline. And ground troops holding buildings should be a thing. Human factors like that. Where decisions matter. Mechwarrior is fun and all, but it is a steroid arcade shooter.
It looks funny to watch a locust walking through steel and concrete.
Just got the game, and despite having a 50 ton Centurion, the Cicada is my MVP. 6 medium lasers and an energy quirk makes it feel like it can actually do damage. Unlike everything else. XD

I played with Merctech + Pirate tech for the longest time, and recently started a YAML modpack for the first time. As much as I loved Merctech, this is so much better (especially for co-op!). You don't get the different brands of weapons anymore but that felt cluttered anyway and it feels like there is more genuine variety in YAML. I hope you enjoy it!
Partial Mech salvage exists in two forms in YAML, V1 and V2. V1 still gives you a chance for full hulls, but all individual salvage is generalized - i.e., if you blow up a Shadow Hawk SH-2D in V1, you'll either get the whole Hawk or parts of it. With V2, you'll either only get the whole Hawk or parts of the SH-2D variant _in particular._ It's a fun alteration, and a nice option if you want to have a narrower field of salvage instead of a more generalized pool to draw from.

One thing YAML hides from you if you don't have the Mod Option mod, is that tanks and turrets are set to 3 times vanilla hp.
Edit: I'm surprised you passed up the coolant pod. It's 4 cool shots in a one ton item.
Yeah, it's such a nice item. I wonder if Baradul thinks it as a cheat item, and that's why he avoided it.
That said, when I was running yaml before the last dlc, I didn't find it on loot tables, which means that if enemy mechs have them and use them, then it's fair game for us too.
Does scary tanks override that or does it stack.

@@Acaios1 Well to be fair to the coolant pod it is and isn't a cheat thing at the same time, it is because that tech isn't standard nor is it lostech, it's extremely experimental to the point that there are NO manufacturers of them ANYWHERE in both Clan and IS space and it hasn't even been given to regular mech units to even trial either, all tests have been done on mechs the groups working on the experimental tech purchase for use in testing so it shouldn't even be showing up in the markets except maybe the odd black market.
It's not if you run builds that have way more heat gen than cooling ability though, the coolant pods are perfect for those.
@@MegaRazorback I'm no lore expert. It's a perfect and cheap, early game item, until you start finding double heatsinks. Now with the extra mods and advancement in time, with things like prototype heatsinks, heat exchanger, etc, they lose (some of) their power.
The thing you wrote in the end I guess is true (it's similar to the early game I was talking about before, e.g. 6 ML Cicada, high heat, low dissipation), and when I'm gonna try such build in the future (like RACs) I may consider adding one or two. Thx for the reminder.
35:00 - For anyone reading comments in the future; yes, walls do count when destroying a base. Why it doesn't seem like it in the video is because most of everything that can be destroyed and counted are calculated in partial precents (example: 0.5%) so you don't always see a shift. I've destroyed walls all the time and left whole buildings up and see got the mission done. Hopefully this helps someone!
Can confirm this is the case. Leave walls last so you can hammer out those last percentages without having to hunt for smaller, destructible bits.
I found the pilot overhaul and TTRulez absolutely broke the ai. They got stuck, froze, didn't shoot at enemies right in front of them, it was awful. Running one or the other was alright, no problems either way. But both together was a train wreck.

I recently started playing MW5 and I find it gives me the same satisfaction as I got from playing Monster Hunter World. It has similarities in the gameplay loop: Sort out your gear, go on a mission, sort out your earnings, upgrade/sort out gear etc. I expect to put many, many hours into this game.
I wish we could combine the ballistic weapon changes from MercTech with the Yet Another mods. I LOVE YAML but I really love the way autocannons are remodeled in MercTech

YAML lets you use LBs as cluster or solid by hitting ctrl+Fire group to toggle
what's the difference between cluster and solid?

imo you should still use the nexus since you cannot get mods like coyotes mission pack on steam. mixing mods from steam and nexus is perfectly fine. also while warFX is great looking it has an issue with fires not disappearing (see mission 2 sky)
Thats the whole point. Fires do not disappear with WarFX.
@@hibiki54 the smoke issues i am talking about can be seen @ 21:07 and many more times throughout the mission. like i said, smoke and fire hanging in the air.

I'd recommend moving your portrait to the right side middle. Also it's a shame you aren't using Coyote's mission mod. I don't think I could play the game without it anymore.

I want to recommend Franken Mech Foray as a mod to spice up pirates.
YAML suite can be added to an ongoing save now with relatively few errors that can be easily fixed, you may want to just put it on your existing save.
Get you a missile Cyclops, load it up with as many SRMs you can pack on it, install a bigger engine, and run around destroying everything on the map.
King crab car can mount 5 srm6 which is nice

While you were shooting the rain gutters off of that building, there was a huge capacitor array nestled into the building.
I genuinely wish you had added Harjel (which is now known as Yet Another Equipment Collection), because it adds a bunch of neat extra bits to YAML which are all mostly taken from the BattleTech Lore.

Hey I've been trying to start a game with the same mods and a very similar start to yours. The problem is the only missions I am getting at start are reptuation 5-7 or higher, which are all at least difficulty 30. What am I doing wrong? It seems impossible at that level when all you have are a few locusts...

You definitely need Mod Options. Nexus I know, but it's =really needed.

All assault mechs at the end is fun, but, try other options as well.

Just so you know, those tanks and stuff have loads of health because the YAML default setting for the hp multiplier is 3.0
My first mission was a bit of a surprise before finding that out

Just want to throw a shout out to whomever put together the "Baradul's MW5 YAML Mods" collection on the Steam Workshop, so all I had to do was hit subscribe to all.
6,475 C bills and a level zero LRM 15 was the pickup salvage from the 'treasure' on the last mission.
Those loot caches will give uou ammo sometimes too. So theres that. The last one gave you back some ammo
I have a mod that removes the ammo replenish ability from those crates. Makes absolutely ZERO logical sense to even be there.
What? Is Fahad beaming down to the battlefield. Opening up your mechs ammo bins and just reloading all that ammo into your mechs ammo belts and ammo bins by hand while you are in a combat area or even being in active combat? I do not think so. So bye bye ammo replenishment. in my game.

@@xJamesLaughx i completely agree that they shouldnt be there lol. Pgi managed to do the one thing that made the loot boxes worse by adding ammo to the rolls. Dont "fix" a problem we never had.
At approximately 00:42, you mention a "Steam Workshop", where you can go and subscribe to selected mods and get auto-updates for them. I have not been able to locate that. Could you please provide some details about how to do that? TIA
which mod is giving you thermal vision and pilot quirks/affinity? recently bought the game and threw on what i thought were all the mods except the cosmetic ones, but those two features are missing in my game :/

Is the base version worth getting? I don't have a PC but I've been checking out a bunch of videos and it's piquing my interest more and more. I know I can't mod the game on console but I'd still like to try it. What do you guys think?
Ultimate melee mech banshee bnc 2p with hot seat t 5 ax melee gyro 3 spiked upper shoulder melee lower. With gorilla arms you top off damage at 270 a swing and with hot seat and 400 core can hit 88 speed so not too much can get away from you.

Yay, at last YAML playthrough.
At start I didnt like YAML, because it seems top complicated. But now I cant olay without it. Game is much deeper now...
In MW5, with beam weapons especially, the 'max range' is actually more like optimal range. Damage falls off out to 0 about 1.5x optimal range. So 540 m mlas can shoot out to about 700 or so. Just not as effective.
use termal vision and weapon upgrade. also scary tanks on low levels are really scary
