These “oldies” taught the world a lesson on how to present a polished, professional, and most importantly, entertaining set. They came out on fire and didn’t relent until the end. I don’t think people appreciate just how fucking amazing this performance was.
Doesn't seem like it was their crowd overall, but their performance just represents the high level of professionalism Motown had, and that couldn't be ignored. By the end of it, everyone was into it whether they knew/grew up with the songs or not. Absolutely legends.
I think they really won the audience over, you can hear them singing when he held the microphone. I wonder how many in the audience there thought they were going to be dull, only to leave amazed by them. I know that’s how I felt watching it at home back in the day. The Four Tops were like the Queen performance for Philly.
The Four Tops were always my favorite R&B group and Levi my favorite lead singer. They were truly a class act and very loyal to one another. They remained intact with no replacement singers until death took Lawrence Payton. The Temptations were also a great group but the Four Tops were TOPS.
I want to thank the people that posted this so much. I was there and a hugh Four Tops fans, previously the whole set was not available on the net. Now it is with great quality. I truly appreciate your posting of this clip.
NOW THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN' ABOUT!! I'd forgotten about this. Those guys were putting' on a show! Today's entertainers could take a lesson from this, nobody does it like this anymore! Yeah, this goes into a playlist!! Oh yeah, one helluva band behind them.
I watched the entire thing live and everyone was great. However, the best, by far, were the Four Tops. Nobody could come close. Except Hall and Oates with David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks. They were awesome too.
My only gripe is whenever they performed, it was always their 60s hits. Never their ABC/Dunhill material: Keeper of the Castle, Ain’t no Woman like the one i got, Are you man enough etc.
chicanobear13 You’re right. I’ll be honest, i prefer their ‘72-‘76 ABC/Dunhill material over most of their Motown stuff. The Motown stuff is great don’t get me wrong. Their classics. I just find it interesting that whenever they did TV appearances during the 80s, 90s etc it was always their 60s Motown material they performed. Their 70s material is forgotten and underrated.
@@ghanasoul well, the Tops loved to give the people what they wanted to hear, u can't deny their great catalog of hits.. but unfortunately longtime fans like us who accepted the new direction and wanted the new stuff were few.. i also was a big fan of the " Jean Terrell " era of the Supremes after Diana Ross.. sad because Tops did what stevie, marvin,Temps which was grow and don't get recognized for it
Lack of high quality footage. The DVD set used the BBC and MTV sources and since this was basically a melody, it would sound weird if they started half way through their set. Either that and/or lack of space for the performance of the DVD.
@@sirme1798In fairness to those who put the dvd together, Led Zeppelin have gone out of their way to block and replay of their performance, even if it was for the good cause. We’re just lucky that people keep posting it on here!

Man they completely crushed it. With a full band and no sound check. 2nd best Live Aid performance for sure
I bought a ticket basically just for the Ozzy Black Sabbath reunion but The Four Tops set really made my day and the most enduring memory
The Four Tops were just the BEST!

I wish they were included, definitely one of the more underrated acts of the concert.
Levi Stubbs "he's no joke" that much is for certain what a voice
They were on fire that day. Wow! Thanks for posting this. Great band, too.
Yes they were!.. crowd having fun..
Thanks! I LOVE this performance. The Tops were great, truly great.
@@chicanobear13 How could you not have fun. The Tops clearly were!
What a concert! Such energy and what a performance by The Four Tops. Am a huge Four Tops fan. Thanks for sharing this!
honoring Duke today - last of the Tops.
I want to relive these days …. compared to the fcuked up times today …. What not to like ?
AGREED !

Love how they all danced on stage. Especially Obie. What a show! And the band was rockin'
That’s what I always say: This was a lesson on how to put on a show. The way they just segued from one song straight into the next, just amazing.

Hall and Oates with David and Eddie were great too
The musicians were jamming.
Brilliant👏👏👏👏
The first time I heard them I was 13. Good old days, now 68 wish to hear forever
The greatest baritone EVER to roam this earth
Fantastic job. Thank you 👍👍👍👍
Upon watching this and other Tops live videos, Levi was locked in and loving that drummer.
The four tops!! Excellent❤🎶
Levi was sooo great !!!!
Good music never gets old!
And love their moves 😍
Swinging as hell
Awesome. This performance is dynamite. Thank you!
Just fcuking awesome …. Apologies for bad language but they deserve an expletive 👏👏👏👏
Hurricane Levi has left the building... what a force of nature 😎
Whooooeee! They turned it out!
good old Berry could recognize a fucking GIANT when he saw one. And he saw quite a few. Didn't he?..
Pure Magic!
Wow..this is great!
outstanding
I love them when I was growing up in Argentina, the best of the best!!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
What a set!
So great!!
Thank you for this :)

Yes..agree.. loved those
Dunhill hits.. more grit

that whole show was like a big party. Every act played nothing but their most classic stuff. I think that is why, Soulman.
@@innocenteventiorbetello you’re right. Makes sense. Most people out there probably wouldn’t remember their 70s material anyway.
3:18 GENIUS BASS PLAYER
Wow!
Could have done longer than 12 minutes mind!
LOVE THESE GUYS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TOO MUCH NOISE OVER THEM
Anybody know who was in that backing band here?
Epic
Yo! They left the tops performance off the dvd set. WTF!!!!! Anybody know why?

Tops, something really special.Am I correct in thinking the Tops opened the show in Philly at a ridiculous early time.
They went on around 10 am

9.32, in fact :)
Why did the dvd cut this, this is great
DVD missed so much - Led Zeppelin FFS!
Simon Le Bon's bum note!
