Seen Santana on this "1985" tour in st.louis. awesome show. 🎸☮️
All these years later and I'm still covered in goosebumps listening to Open Invitation.
Absolutely stellar.
I've witnessed it live on TV at that time and still get goosepimples. The modesty of Carlos is outstanding. He seems to be a musician from an other planet...
One of the great performances of the day. Definitely needed to be on the DVD.
I can't believe its not on the Vid either
I don’t know why this, and a lot of other performances, were not included on the DVD either. There was some truly great stuff that was omitted.
@@MsAppassionata I've read that Zeppelin wasn't happy with their performance so they wouldn't allow it on the dvd. And in one of Santana's songs his guitar became unplugged right before his solo. But the other songs sounded great. The Four Tops did a great medley of hits that should have been included.
DVD? what is that

12:04 Right Now (with Pat Metheny)
I feel sorry for those who have never had a chance to listen to Carlos Santana.
Lol😂
You’ve no excuse NOW
Pat Metheny, it was the first time I heard his music, and was love!
Saw this live on MTV back in the day! First time seeing Pat Metheney. Very cool set! Love how they skip over the more familiar tunes in favor of some lesser known but awesome tracks.
I was there! One of the best days of my life!
Just skimming through live aid . I was 18 back in 85 . Damn the time Flies . Open invitation. Great jam . Spent a few years in Philly . 88 to 91. Good times
Philly was the best place to see a concert. Rowdy!
After Queen, Santana was the highlight of the event for me.
Just amazing.
I like Santana…better
Agree.
Great musicians with two powerhouse vocalist! Amazing talent.
I was mesmerized by this set all those years ago. I still am. Open Invitation is such a great song. Only inched by Queen as the highlight that day. Terrific Santana!!!
El gran Carlos Santana, de Jalisco, México. Su legado musical es indiscutible.
This should have been included on the Live Aid DVD box set.
I heard the sound was rubbish like on Zeppelins set
Wow...this is mind blowing. The remaster and work done on the video brings this performance to another level. This is Santana firing on all cylinders. A shout out to Santana rhythm section...Raul Rekow (RIP).....Armando Peraza (RIP)..miss both these monster players immensely..Graham Lear drums....Orestes Vilato timbales......PEACE!
Amen!
Zen Drummer Micheal Shrieve
Graham my mans stepdad
Greg Walker , Alex Ligertwood, Chester Thompson, Alphonso Johnson on bass (?)
I remember that whole day so well. It was big…
Music from the heart for the heart ❤
9´14´´ the best live solo I´ve ever heard from Santana, and first time in stereo
This was the best ever lineup of Santana, people who only know of their modern era crap, or the original three albums but nothing after that won't get it, but man this lineup could play everything in the catalog up to that point with incredible passion. Greg and Alex are the two best vocalists the band ever had.
SO SO right! The period 1979-1985 was the peak for me. Alex Ligertwood on vocals always tore it up. And Peraza-Rekow-Vilato ... wow.
I agree with you totally. What albums did they make. Each sounding different from the other. And then he assembled the Rekow-Peraza-Vilato partnership. Damn this era was exciting as a Santana fan.
@@kalpataru47 I believe the albums were Marathon, Zebop, Shango and Beyond Appearances.
@@WordsandSoundsMusic Yes you are right. Though it's Alphonso Johnson on bass and Chester on keys, that Zebop era also had the wonderful Dave Margen on bass and Richard Baker on keys. What a tight unit.
@@kalpataru47 Remember seeing Alphonso in 1985, amazing 15-minute bass solo. Never got to see Margen or Baker live, unfortunately.
Santana wearing a Jimi Hendrix shirt. The love
And at 08:14 is a Hendrix tribute I think 🤔
this set list was absolutely unbeatable. Carlos went All In. powerful
It was the first three songs and last song of their tour setlist in 1985. Remember getting blown away when the concert started in Toronto by their Wall of Sound.
Excellent recording. I still have my vhs tape from this concert. It too is still great video. quality
Played Woodstock and live aid
Legend.
Echo many of the comments here. Remember this day oh too well. Glued all day but had to go to a wedding so set my spanking new VHS to record. Being then , and now a huge Santana freak rushed to see my band when we returned only to find most of the Santana set taken up by the then omnipresent Mr Collins being interviewed behind a wall os static on Concorde. Was I pissed or what😸 Thanks so much for uploading and just need to say what a save by Carlos on the big guitar break on Right Now when his rig failed him ... great band, great concert
Love this performance.
excellent quality looks better than what I saw live lol! Up 36 hours and blistering heat....I would do it all over again!
Rest in everlasting peace the greats Armando Peraza & Raul Rekow.
Thank you for putting this video together!
Like a lot of folks, where I was, they didn't show any of this before Open Invitation. The first 5 minutes of Brotherhood and Primera Invasion are blistering performances. If you aren't moving to this music, you're dead.
So true, man. Remember seeing this live the night before in Toronto. Just a wall of sound.
Open invitation was the outstanding performance of the Philly leg of live aid. The song just rocked that stadium. Carlos' guitar solos were brilliant.
crazy ive never heard that one before and the whole song just slayed so hard
Pure heaven.
Awesome, thanks for putting this together! In the UK our TV missed most of this performance because we had to watch some people in a TV studio talking to Phil Collins who was on Concorde flying to play at the other venue (London or New York, not sure which). We were only able to see it from near the end of the Open Invitation and a bit of Pat Metheney, then it cut again. Wondered for years what the rest was like and now I know. Great effort, much appreciated! :-)
Philly.
George Davies Plus, you could barely hear what Collins was saying anyway. What a waste of time.
Brotherhood, Primera Invasion, Open Invitation & By The Pool/Right Now.
Best act hands down from live aid and the four tops
Orestes Vilato on the timbales is playing like a man possessed 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Many thanks, Ivan Trejo. Peace
By the way, thanks for your work in remastering this great performance!
RIP Armando Peraza & Raul Rekow .
Backbone of this great band for so long. The young Raul used to go the Cow Palace in SF to see Santana. Armando was a great all his life. George Shearing all the way into Santana... they just don’t make ‘em like that too often now.
Disfrutemos la música, hoy Mayo 10,2020 lo vi. Rescatemos lo que vale la pena.
Thanks for putting this all together! I might be one of the few who think this was a terrific performance. Anyway, a very strong Santana lineup here at this momentous event. I remember watching it live, or at least the part they aired on the station I was watching.
This is Santana firing on all cylinders. Been many years since i replayed this and i'm still stoked by this one. A shout out to Santana rhythm section....Raul Rekow (RIP)....Armando Peraza (RIP)..miss both these monster players immensely....Graham Lear drums......Orestes Vilato timbales .....Peace !
Zen Drummer this is great la
Yes, the drum/percussion section here was the best ever. And Alphonso Johnson on bass? Wow. Not to mention incredible vocals from Alexander Ligertwood and Greg Walker. Carlos was almost just the icing on the cake of an epic band.
What a powerful and selvatic start !.... I'd like to be there !
Wow! Some serious talent on that stage....
Que alegria, gracias para compartir :-)
Gracias por publicar este concierto de Live Aid con Santana, excelente el vocalista del minuto 5:40 una gran voz
Greg Walker. Un grande.

God, Santana are incredible 😳❤️
Magic guitar 🤩🤗
Thanks for upload. The complete Set from Live aid in an better quality. Thanks a lot.
excellent restoration job.....
A real shame this arena was bulldozed down instead of doing some reno. The best out door arena in the land, the artists loved the acoustics it had
Das ist unbeschreiblich, danke, danke, danke
brilliant !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SANTANA EL MEJICANO DEL MUNDO.

The Pat Metheny Group played at the Mann Music Center in Philly that night. (I was there)
DaveandWendy1 Did you not go to Live Aid?
🔥🔥🔥💞
Outstanding!!
Wow, so much talent! I’m giving a shoutout to The Who and Don’t Get Fooled Again - that’s some great driving Rock ‘n Roll!
Guitargasm
Great
I had no idea Carlos was playing PRS's this early!
@Babis Tse Well that goes without saying...
Since 1982
que grande Carlitos!!! un grande de verdad!
they were so fucking good...still cant figure out why their set wasn't on the DVD. Just ridiculous, in light of a number of performances that didnt deserve to be included.
Looks like Woodstock in 1985 he’s good at it the best Santana ❤
San Francisco California?????
Karl Fuentes : Bill Graham meant to say Santana Band. If you read Carlo’s autobiography you will notice that still considers Santana as a band. Of course, Carlos is the leader and without him the band doesn’t exist, but the man himself prefer see Santana as a band.

Love carlos.
Very early prototype version of a Paul Redd Smith guitar from what I recall.
Not early, this is 1985, he had been playing that PRS since 1982 by then.

14:52 Santana está por explotar con el solo y... le bajaron la llanta🤔
Probably the best of live aid with queen and Zeppelin Bowie and Duran Duran and Paul McCartney Adam Ant anf of course Beach Boys
Zeppelin was a hot mess. Even Duran Duran didn't give a 100%
Even Zeppelin realized they sucked that day. That’s why they had their set removed from the DVD.
My favorites, aside from this one, were Paul McCartney, Queen, David Bowie, U2, Paul Young, The Pretenders, Patti Labelle, The Four Tops, Hall & Oats (with Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin), Elton John (with George Michael and Kiki Dee), Mick Jagger and Tina Turner,
Zeppelin? Are you serious, or is your musical taste up yer arse ????
That junkie Jimmy Page ought to have been watching and learning from Carlos Santana instead of snorting/injecting whatever substance he could get his hands on before Zeppelin took to the stage for that embarrassing display.
Btw this version of the Santana band was a KILLER!
Great, and I mean great, comment about that piece of shit called Jimmy Page; your comment is so very true !!!
Lots of artists did something cheap and not so serious for Live Aid. Not this band. Playing as if their lives depended on it.
Woooowwwwww
@10:00 a little shred
I really don't know the story but there seemed to be a very 'bad vibe" between Santana and Bob Geldof. To the tune of Geldof NOT liking Santana and his music, etc., and Santana in his Biography doesn't talk about it. This was not a good experience for Santana and maybe the reason also he decided not to be on the oficial Live Aid DVD. Kind of the same thing with Led Zeppelin except that their performance was really bad, Page seemed to be on something other than adrenaline, Plant's voice wasn't up to it and they blamed the whole thing on Collins who had really been invited by Plant and when he showed up in Philadelphia realized what he'd gotten into it. Live Aid was and incredible experience with lots of interesting stories...
But Collins showed absolutely wrong rhythm that day like he didn't know any of Zeppelin and solo played exactly the same shi....songs like he did before in Wembley. Disappointing it was
that toothless guy, lets be honest he rly had this coming :D
Greg Walker. Best Santana vocalist.
What about alexander.
@@paulcooper5748 Ligertwood? He's good but he's no Greg Walker.
@@paulcooper5748 Agree, Alex was The Man.
@@WordsandSoundsMusic The best that santana had i thought.
@@paulcooper5748 Agreed.
Cuando el Rock era Rock
¿Y ahora que es?
The shirt of pat its better than the queen performance
08:11 Hendrix tribute rift 😅👌🏼✅
I think it and your m8s
Exactly like Jimmy Page performance....😉
OSCAR IBARRA I trust you’re joking. Page was really fu*cked up on something that day. Plant sounded off and Phil Collins speeded up. What a disaster! Probably their worst performance ever.
2nd 2 none ❤
Did Carlos ever put together a bad band? I don't think so.
12:04 what name is song
The Philly lineup and performances were better than London including this one. Cheers!
Except for Queen, which was the best performance of the day by anyone.
Only because after Status Quo opened the Wembley show the next 6 hours were made up of so so pop bands plus a really boring Bryan Ferry and a certain by 1985 already long in the dumper Irish "punk" band who where there for one reason only. From Dire Straits and onward (Queen, David Bowie, The Who and Elton John) the show was great.
Wham, the Eurythmics and Cliff Richard were all billed to appear at London but had to cancel before the day, while last minute addition Cat Stevens simply didn't perform. Which is a shame as all four would have added some much needed variety and charisma to a slack bill.
@@desperatemohammedantheworl5833 wham did make it to back up Elton John
@@krlm2280 True but they were originally billed to perform there own set. I guess like Philly no show Rod Stewart they simply couldn't get a band together in time. Also, Cliff did end up performing a song at the BBC after Wembley TV show which was broadcast by many stations around the world.
Desperate Mohammedan the World's Strongest Arab I liked Paul Young’s set so I disagree.
Way too many ADs on this video...really annoying...lol.
