Because the modern music industry is all about low risk, high reward investments. Record execs tried in the 90's-2000's but experimental rock couldn't be fully co-opted into capitalism. The songs can't be remixed at clubs or for adverts/movies and often contain complex that lyrics aren't easily translated for international sales. You don't need to speak english to chant "p-p-p-p-p-p poker face" at the club. So now they just create the artists and oversaturate the market with hype and advertising. They FORCE you to like what they have invented and offer no substitutes.
I found this song one of the first nights I was home alone with my daughter, my girlfriend having gone back to work and me being a new father. baby shows seem offensive and everything else felt false, so live music is where I settled and found genuine entertainment we could both enjoy. we listen to this every night before bath, usually with a tiger's jaw song and the hotline tnt session, and she sits and watches contently and without distraction. it's pretty amazing. putting on pile for a baby you may say... not all pile, but I felt this song's notes and harmonies said more than I could say about how I felt, and I believe this song in particular helped us bond. thanks
I love how their songs are kind of like a Narrative structure and they just explode into a climax. Ricks vocals and guitar playing are this like loose, haggard style and I love it so much
When the outro finished its first cycle I went “YES!” out loud to myself. These boys are not afraid of the beautiful in-between sounds that come from experimentation.
in less than a year i've gone from not knowing pile existed to seeing them live (& wearing my new pile shirts as often as i can), all because of this far out performance. i don't know the meaning or story behind the lyrics to firewood, but i would put this song on a mix about my life as a woman with aspergers. it's such a comforting song (lyrically and musically) and that's what i love most about pile. pile.

I saw Rick Maguire play a solo session in my town in 2018 and I had never heard of him before that day. Decided to check out his music and WOW, I have been a fan ever since. Rick playing solo that day made me think he is the male Regina Spektor lol -- such beautiful music.
@@markmcgwincomedy still the earliest one I've heard! Been loving the two most recent records too much since finding them. Excited that I've still got so much of their discography left to hear :D
Amazing.... LOVE. the. fuck. out of this... Been listening to your record so much, my wife hates me.. BUT asked me to play it instead of billie Elsh last night for a change... thank you. (prevented me from divorce or suicide)

Have pile got a cue of bald guys with glasses waiting in the wings to play bass, what happened to the last bald glasses guy did his warantee run out? You making them in a lab?
I don't understand how a band can be so good, and not recognized at all. One of my favorite songs ever.
I see you, so much.
@@royceedwards1910 huh
@@idontlikethings5911 I understand what you are saying and strongly agree.

Aww man. That's adorable. How's she doing?
Fuckin' magical
5 years and at least 500 watches later this is still a masterpiece
My nose literally unblocked itself when the solo hit
The tone was like a nice horseradish for corned beef on St Patty’s Day 😂.

It feels like the overwhelming surge of anxiety when I'm about to cry.
That's probably the 1000th time I am watching this performance. Raw and epic.
This band is a goddamn national treasure.
this is one of, if not THE BEST Audiotree live session to date. The setting, the band, the energy. An untouchable video
When the outro finished its first cycle I went “YES!” out loud to myself.
These boys are not afraid of the beautiful in-between sounds that come from experimentation.
this is the best song I've ever listened to. it's just been repeating in my head for weeks.
Right there with you!
in terms of the music hand-in-hand with lyrics, as well as execution, very few songs are in the same league as this one
This is better than the album version-partly because of the video, and partly because Audiotree did such a great job mixing it!
You guys are one of my favourite bands. Tragically underrated
The recording sounds better than the actual record. Great work, engineer human.
fr, even the cinematography is so full of spirit. This screams the efforts of the underappreciated work of a soul filled crew loving what they do.

I’ve had this song on repeat for days. So so so good
Just saw them live and the performance of this song was the best of the night. Amazing tune
This is brilliant. I wish they did versions of the whole album.
I can't express how deep this speaks to me
Damn, really nice job on this session Audiotree and Pile. Great sound, great colour grading. Awesome.
The intro was Other Moons if anyone had wondered
Thanks, but does anyone know where to find the version that plays at the beginning of this video?
@@BitterLad I think it was just for the video. I could be mistaken.
How rick achieves that tone on the solo is beyond me
This video gives me goosebumps every time I watch it
I just love this Audiotree thing of filming the Far Out sessions in 1 long take/sequence shot. It adds a really good artistic atmosphere.

Are weird people drawn to bass or does playing bass make you weird or both? I love quirky bass dude in this band.
Zach Beebe that’s a funny observation man 😂
Combo of both: weird already so drawn to bass, then the bass adds to the weirdness... At least in my experience. Lmao.
Weird dudes gonna weird
