    In my experience with Henry rifles and their 22 line (I have about 30 different Henry guns) is they work best with the Skinner sights, the ones that mount in the dovetails on the barrel. Scopes? Never had much luck staying zeroed very weak due the inherit design of the Henry rifles with the “shroud” or cover that encases the receiver. It is a point of movement. So, I’d be a buyer on a scope mount system that worked with existing dove tail mount on the barrel, like the one on my Evil Roy 22LR and 22 mag.
    As always LOVE your channel, you are good dude and I hope you get as many folks watching your channel as possible, you deliver the goods.

    Sister in law was stopping by today so I broke out the ol 10/22. I cleared the KYL rack @ 50 yards and was pretty impressed with my setup, she promptly hit every target on the next 10. What a blast- was very proud. Have to build one for her to have as her own now so she gets into it and drags the kids out!

    Just a thought here. The scope is mounted to a metal shroud that covers the actual receiver sort of like a Remington nylon 66.
    You might want to check the torque on those screws that hold the shroud tight to make sure that you aren’t getting some minute movement causing your point of aim to shift slightly.

    • @edjett2631

      I had similar issues on the Nylon 66 as well; that's why I'm not surprised this with his results with this Henry..

    OK Marine...retired navy here (GMCM). I have the Henry Golden Boy. Put a scope on it and couldn't hit the target. Best bet, take the scope off and use iron sights. Thinking of using a peep sight. I just don't think these Henry rifles were made for scopes - others will prove me wrong but I'm going back to the basics for this gun.. Enjoy your videos and thanks.

    • @Dayattherange
      @Dayattherange  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes it absolutely makes me doubt the scope. May take the scope off and try another OR go back to iron sights. I have not shot this on in so long but I do remember it shooting better than this I thought. I feel like honestly I should be able to get 1 to 2in groups more consistently. As a varmint hunter this rifle would not have missed much and still to me an option and a load of fun.

    Hi Eli, I have that same rifle. When my step dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's he had to get rid of his gun collection. I bought as many as I could and I sold a lot of them for him. He gave me the Henry H001 at Christmas because I had said that I always wanted a lever action 22 rifle. So hopefully I can get some 22 rings, put a scope on it and see if I can shoot the challenge. Of course I'll need to see what ammo it likes as well.

    Before pitching the scope, make sure all your mounts are well seated and the screws are tight without being over torqued. When you shoot, remove your hand from the forearm and lay the forearm on sand bags when you shoot. Just a thought, may or may not help.

    My experience: In 2020 I purchased a Ruger American Standard with 22' barrel with poly stock and put a $29 3x9 scope on it. Any ammo was good ammo then. After shooting it a couple of hundred rounds, I decided to challenge myself at 100 yds. I began "ammo testing" four brands a range visit. After working my way through the high velocity types, I came across CCI Standard velocity; it was far more consistent.Then an online seller in Florida advertised S&B Club, graphite-impregnated rounds. It was marginally better. I am able to hold a 1 1/2" group unless it gets too windy. This impressed no one except my eight-year-old granddaughter and myself. But it is fun and less money than .45ACP and even 9mm. P.S. That is Remington Thunderbolt which is much better quality (IMO) than Golden Bullet.

    I have a Henry that looks identical to that the one you’re shooting. Bought it because it will chamber 22 short through LR ammo. You it for a pest problem. It solved the pest problem. Unfortunately I not had good results with it the few times I’ve played with it at the range. I’ve not tried multiple ammo brands through it. Was rather disappointed with accuracy. It’s been in the gun safe for several years now. Maybe I’ll bring it back out.

    If I were a betting man, I would have went all in on CCi standard velocity. I have a love hate relationship with with Federal, Automatch isn’t bad (a little fast for my preference), but the bulk BYOB patterned like a shotgun.

  • @darrensargent960
    @darrensargent960 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    As others are bringing up the scope, one of the things I notice is how high it is mounted. I understand why this is with this particular scope/rifle combination, due to clearance issues between the rear sight and objective lens. This is causing you to not have any sort of consistent cheek weld to the butt stock of the rifle. You may try a different scope with smaller objective lens and lower rings or build up the stock with some pipe insulation and vet wrap so you can get a consistent cheek weld with your eye centered behind the optic. With a consistent cheek weld and eye alignment, I suspect your groups would shrink a bit.

  • @NotJOE420
    @NotJOE420 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Either your scope is not tightened down properly, or there are screws loose on the rifle. The screw underneath at the front of the action, on top at the rear of the action, and the lever screws all need tightening on Henry’s. They come loose and accuracy gets erratic. Put blue locktite on the two receiver screws.

    • @ron8566
      @ron8566 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      - same issue with my Ruger 10/22. Once the screw gets loose accuracy is a mess. I used the purple loc-tight in mine.

    My pick for what’s on the table? CCI standard. Every 22 that I’ve owned that shot well like CCI. It might not be the very best but it’s good. I’m almost of the opinion that if it won’t shoot CCI, it won’t shoot.

      I may just do that with the same ammo. This scope probably has less than 300 rounds on it and was sitting in the original box. But your point is valid. not every rifle is a 1 hole rifle. From the comments this does tell me I should probably set an expectation. Because these levers aren't meant to shoot next to 3 thousand dollar rifles. This rifle though should get a consistent with the right ammo 1 to 2inch groups and many of those weren't far off. If you think it was fun to watch trying shooting one of these levers LOL man I had a blast. As always it is good to see you my friend stopping by.

    While we all know that 22lr firearms will often show a preference for a particular brand of ammo, I believe there is a problem with the equipment. You are too good a shooter to have repeated flyers that we saw. Another poster raised questions about barrel band and magazine tension, several raised issues about the scope, etc. All are worth trying. Is the muzzle damaged? I have to believe a good .22 rifle would be expected to be more consistent.

    This outing was consistently poor. And I know it was not because of your aiming skills. I shoot all of that ammo out of about 8 different 22s and only Winchester shoots that bad for me.
    I tend to agree that you should try a different scope. Tighten all the screws appropriately.

Meaning there are always those that believe every rifle should be a one hole group and that is just not going to be true. This being a plinking/hunting rifle I expect 1 to 2inch groups. If needed I am highly confident I could still go out right now from a standing position and still put food on the table if needed with this very rifle.

Now get them out with some balloons filled with water, clay pigeons and good old soda pop cans and they would be having the time of their lives and this rifle is capable of all that. I have noticed over the past few years everyone wants a 1 hole rifle or either has a 1 hole rifle that they paid 200 dollars for. If that is true they should play the lottery because they are one of the luckiest people I have seen. This is a plinking rifle and should be 1 to 2inch at 100yards its very capable.

Ammo is under $20 for 500 pellets. I stocked up several years ago and 500 pellets were about $10. A hand pump will cost $65 on Amazon. Anyway, 10 shots at 100 yards sub 3” in light wind.
