I suddenly find myself in a position where I actually need to rig my camera (at least in some situations), and I've seen A LOT of videos on how to build a rig. But it's a jungle out there, and I've become more confused than educated. And although this video is specifically about lidar rigs, it is also the first video that really have made me understand at least something about rig-building. And that's a start😊
great review...just for interest CVP in London are producing a bracket to mount lidar on rods, you can then mount near front lens element which frees up handle space....waiting for focus pro to be in stock, great piece of kit
This is very similar to my BMPCC6K setup Top handle same wooden side handle with an on/off switch plate for NPF batteries Got rid of the follow focus didn’t work half the time Then ssd card holder on top Got rid of rails and the DJI RS2 and go all handheld It all fits in my Shimoda x70 with drone and 2 days of clothes with extra batteries and laptop Will have to get the DJI LIDAR AND SEE if it all still fits in the bag? Also use a camera strap so I can walk around with rig slung on side
Hi Sam, would you recommend using the LiDAR pro system for providing af to an older cine cam, or would you just get a modern cam with PDAF. Wondering whether to wait for the S1H II?
@@SamHolland I am thinking of it and agree the 50 mm then if I like it will grow the collection like i do with everything else 😁😁 have you got a link 🤓
Hello Sam, I love all your videos! I have a question, I was wondering if I could use the DJI Lidar autofocus on a GH4 from Panasonic.....Do you think I could still use it and would I need a cable adapter to connect the Lidar with the camera?
Awesome video as usual! I have a question.. I have a black magic 6Kpro and picked up a lidar 1st gen model and DJI RS 3pro just a week before they introduced the new lidar focus pro and RS 4 pro... DZO came out with Vespid cyber which could be directly connected to the lidar to make calibration of lenses much faster. But now with the new Lidar focus pro and the list of lens added in the lidar system.. do I still need to go for the vespid cyber or could it be any other cinema lens.. and what would you suggest if that is the case? thanks
Your timing is impeccable Sam as always. I started to think about trying manual focus for the first time last week. Love all the suggestions and I have most of what you suggested however slight issue with the F38 system while using my RS3. The Ulanzi combined plate for RS3 doesn’t have the three holes for attaching the focus puller to and I wondered how you got around that? I assume you just balance and add what you showed in this video replacing the whole manual setup that comes from DJI? Thanks for any help!!
how big is the case for the DJI Focus Pro Creator Combo, ok wierd question but for space saving important and i have zero point of ref...no unboxing on any channel , missed a trick there
Great video, thanks. Can you please confirm if the lidar system with grip (creator combo) is compatible with Panasonic Lumix S5 and S5IIX? I checked it out on the DJI website and these cameras are not on the list!?
*Great work, why are you using the S5 instead of the S5ii(x) that you'v got - have read some ppl saying the footage from S5 is better - is that bonkers?*
Is there any way to make the lydar usbc cablelonger. The one included is too short for my rig. I tried using many of my usbc cables and noone or them work and dji dont make a longer one
Can you control focus on Lumix S Primes without the gear motor? I use the Lumix S5ii and BMCC6K with the Lumix S 1.8 primes and wanted to see if I can use the DJI RS4 focus controller to control the cameras and lenses without the bulk of gear motor. Thanks
Hi. Thank you 🙏🏻. Yes LiDAR now works with lumix cameras and lenses without the motors. I did a video about it on my channel if you wanted to learn more
@SamHolland, wait so it will work hand-held without the gimbal!?!? Just the pro focus grip and pro lidar connected directly to Lumix camera with an L mount photo lens? If so this is amazing!
thanks for your video. why don't you just put the lidar sensor on top of your top handle - like on the front of the cold shoe adapter? sensor should work fine
hey man, love the video. Just a question. can the focus pro handgrip be used on a directors monitor seperate from the camera or does it need to plug directly into the lidar? also can it run off the tilta rs3 dummy battery plate as it uses the same battery? so to run it off v mount
Does the LIDAR need the actual hot shoe for power, or does it need to be centerline with the lens? I ask because I’m keen to offset it and keep my top handle.
Check out the Nitze LiDAR Mounting Kit and if you do, let us know if it's compatible? I know the mounting kit is made for the first one. It'll give you back the option to use a top handle.
Yes. I noticed they are quite powerful actually. You can change the torque, too. Some of my lenses are very stiff. I briefly mentioned that in my previous video 🎥👌🏻 hope this helps. Just note I can only comment on the lenses I own
Hey mate, nice video thanks for the info and tips. For some better mounting idea of the lidar system check out Media Division's video on this using the included nato rail and rod mount.
Not a fan of the focus handle, I like the PDmovie tiny wireless solutions for pulling focus, even if their LIDAR tech is a couple generations behind. They're good enough for run and gunning with cine lenses as a solo operator with manual focus.
So the best purpose of this would be vintage lenses, canon autofocus fix, night scenes and 24p movies since object and animal tracking haven't been much discussed for other reviewers. Wildlife/nature, fast interweaving actors, racing and other inanimate cinema content are axed for this usage. This is perfect for bargain 10 dollar cine lenses since it can take in better t-stops than expensive gpu level cost lenses.
Thanks for the excellent video, i love the way you explain. Only one thing needed improvement, it is the lighting on the products, which is poor, the product details are not clear, as an viewer, i want to see the texture, writing on the products and fine details of the products that you are showing, this can be achieved with just better lighting. Thanks
Dude your the first person to say to stop saying "RuN AnD gUn" and ive been thinking this for like 4 years....your now my favorite
I thought of "scoot and shoot" but immediately realised it basically has the same problem as RnG. It's a pity not many words rhyme with snap or click!
Can we also agree to stop saying B-roll as well.
😂👏🏻
😂👏🏻🎥
Yes! It should be reserved for when it’s ACTUALLY b roll 🎥

I've got the "old" S5, so this info is spot on. Do more!
The fact that this is even possible is a CLEAR indication of just how spoiled we are as content creators nowadays ❤❤❤
By far the best video and best set up with dji
Great Sam - this is the content we love - so happy youre getting away from the heavy retention tactics
Amazing video, I was just trying figure this kind of set up on my own. But with your help it is going to be sooo much easy!
Hey. So glad this helped 😃🙏🏻🎥

This looks great Sam. I got rid of my Dji Ronin S a while back as wasn't using it much but this might be a better option I reckon
Yes!!!! 💪🏻 I love a handheld rig 🎥
Bro's got a MILLY 🤑💰😂 Awesome video! Super cool to see the direction video is going for the every day creator! Fantastic set up!
Put the lidar on top of the lens or on the top handle
would love to see this system on a Pyxis when it comes out, I think that would be really awesome.
Hi Sam, would you recommend using the LiDAR pro system for providing af to an older cine cam, or would you just get a modern cam with PDAF.

This set up might be exactly what I need for my s1h
Yippee ...... run and gun ... cinematic .... seriously nice rig also if you could only have one Anamorphic lens for the S5MKIIX what would it be ?
Ooooo good question. I LOVE the 150mm Sirui BUT I think if it was one only, it would have to be the 50mm. Are you getting one?
@@SamHolland I am thinking of it and agree the 50 mm then if I like it will grow the collection like i do with everything else 😁😁 have you got a link 🤓
@HiethGeorge Wait a few months first 😉🎥
Great video, will the old focus motor work with the set up?
I ask the same... and great video!
@javierb1535 Thank you 😃🙏🏻🎥
That is a good question. I’ll have to try it and get back to you 🎥
@@SamHolland Well did it work?
What about attaching the LiDAR to a matte box?

Does the new focus pro works with lumix the same way the last one did? No focus motor for autofocus lens?
Hello ! Can i use this without the LiDar assist autofocus system? Only manual focus from the handgrip and focus motor ?
Sam can you build a rig with the DJI focus, xlr handle, and a monitor with the fx3
I saw someone putting the lidar unit to the side and the guy said it works just as well. He has the monitor on top

Will grip work with the first version of DJI LiDAR?
hey can i use that focus grip with the old lidar ?
can i use it on the right side of the camera?
Would it be possible to put the s2mii on a gimbal with the lidar and a braw recorder?
if you use autofocus L mount lenses you don't really need the DJI focus motors ?
That’s true. LiDAR can work with Lumix lenses without the motor 👌🏻🎥

Just kidding . Great video

Does the LiDAR have to in the center I was thinking of mounting it on the side handle or on the matte box
Center and closest to lens is best
How about my setup is easy breezy beautiful fun and run
Very very cool
I just bought one and I noticed the camera mic catches the noise of the lens spinning…Does anyone having the same problem?
Is that Sirui lens full frame?
Sure is 👌🏻
Nice sir I aim from Kashmir
Out now? you mean sold out now.

who tf doesn't like camera cages that also shoots video lol
Most people who are photographers first and are used to the smaller bodies etc
@@SamHolland i think anyone spending a grand on a wireless follow focus system are pretty used to camera cages lol
