    Just give the show a soap opera title, Rings of our Lives, Gondor 90210, Rohan after Dark, etc. At this rate, we'll get a sappy story about an Orc/Human relationship complete with social commentary.

    Just wait until they reveal Adar is Celeborn, Galadriels husband who went missing during the war against Morgoth. He even called her “Tauriel” which is essentially her husbands baby girl name for her, no one else would do that.

    • @alexanderdumas-

      It’s why he knows the name of Elronds mother, and when Elrond retorts “you’ve never seen me use a pen or a sword” he’s wrong on both accounts Celeborn has seen him do both. Her ring Nenya has already been shown to have healing powers and will probably revive him to his original form freeing the orcs to join Sauron

    Never attribute to malice what can adequately be explained by stupidity-or, in this case, hubris. I see no reason to think that Payne, McKay, and the writers' room are deliberately choosing to antagonize those for whom Tolkien's writing is important. But I think that they are not in that category of fans. To them, Tolkien's legendarium is nothing but a 'franchise' (a word I hate in this context-it sounds like a hamburger chain), a collection of text that is to be mined in order to tell their own story, because they fancy themselves as skilled writers with Something Important to say to 'modern audiences'. It isn't that they hate Tolkien, or the fans; it's that they just don't care, and so cannot imagine the way in which Tolkien's work matters to the fans.
    The sad irony is that Tolkien's writings were themselves a revolt against the modernism that Tolkien and Lewis and their friends saw in literature. Nobody was writing the sort of stories they liked, so they wrote the stories themselves. Tolkien was not dismayed by critics like Edmund Wilson ('Oo, Those Awful Orcs') and their strong dislike of his books, because he did not himself care for the sort of books they liked. And Tolkien would (I think) have disliked Rings of Power even if it had been written without reference to his own creation. This 'fantasy' does not provide escape from our world, because the heroes and villains have been reduced to banal ordinariness. It is just a modern story in fancy dress.

    • @alejandromolina5645
      @alejandromolina5645 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No. The truth is that at this stage of the l stupidity game is no longer something you can consider.
      The writers, directer, and actors all know what the source material is because the fans have flamed this show for almost 2 years with an abundance of source material refutations to everything these malicious creepy amazon creators have put into production.
      The only answer is malicious intent by amazon. Especially when writers, actors and producers are directly challenged during interviews about the controversies concerning their hated amazon series. They know the fans are pissed off.
      They are now on purpose pissing off the fans. This is now a pissing match by Amazon against the fans. This is only about WOKE idealogy, not about making money.
      These woke communists have already done this to numerous franchises, so it is plain that all of this a declared war against all franchises and the real fans.
      The question is do we let them get away with this or do we make them pay by denying them our money.

    They surely disdain and despise the fans but I really don't think they doing it on purpose, they are just trying to make a good, endearing and entertaining story for TV, but they just failing at it because they are terrible writers. They are shipping every character together because they don't know how to do anything else, that's their only tool available to try to desperately make these characters as least a bit endearing for the audience, and even that it's not working, that's how terrible they are, they can't even pull out some CW level of romance.

  • @PLMTL87

    They clearly based Adar on Ëol (the isolated dark elf parent of Thingol and black smith of two black meteorite blade swords). Only Ëol could saw Melian because Ëol dealt with his parents in Doriath where she resided. And Adar got a black blade / dark looking sword. And is armor got a river carved on is chest ….. like the river Esgaldui crossing the great forest of Doriath
    And ! 😂 Ëol is a dark haired elf … like Adar.

    • @PLMTL87
      @PLMTL87 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ëol died by being thrown over the walls of Gondoline...a judgment rendered after killing his wife while trying to kill his son……. technically 😂

    • @takuid
      @takuid 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Eol is not the parent of Thingol, Thingol is one of the very first elves who woke or perhaps the son of the very first elves that woke up in Middle-earth which were parentless. Eol simply lived in Thingol's forest Doriath and paid tribute (without wanting to) to Thingol. Not sure what you meant by "Only Ëol could saw Melian because Ëol dealt with his parents in Doriath where she resided" but Melian was visible to everyone in Doriath, elves and men.
      Eol's parentage is not known but it said to be a kinsman to Thingol in some way. Adar is not Eol but is probably (idiotically) Celeborn in this awful show...

      Or the other one I could think of is Maglor. I dont think we know how\if he died?

    • @takuid
      @takuid 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PLMTL87 I think dark elves like Eol and his son Maeglin (maglor was a son of Feanor) were very rare and basically their preference for darkness instead of light was reflected in their moral choices in the stories. Eol and his son were both cunning, and had increased skills in delving of metals (similar to dwarves, Eol was very friendly with dwarves for example and Maeglin was the best delver of ore in Goldolin) compared to other elves. And they both did evil deeds at some point in their lives (both of them died in Goldolin I believe). Maeglin definitely died when Gondolin fell in the first age. Eol died earlier.
      I do not believe we come across other dark elves being mentioned in the second age for example. They were exceedingly rare, like a rare mutation (their affinity to darkness instead of light) in the elven population. I do not think they worshipped Melko though, although Maeglin was eventually captured by him and compelled to betray Gondolin.
      Adar, does not really have those traits as far as I can tell. Dark elves are not really elves corrupted by Melko and tuned into orcs. Adar is like what ROP writers think how elves became orcs (this is a topic that leads to many inconsistencies in Tolkien's writings, which he was aware of). In my personal opinion Tolkien had some better ideas about how orcs came to be that he did not focus on too much and could not resolve in the direction he chose with "corrupted elves and men" idea. He did not finalize the origin of the orcs definitively.
      I am pretty sure it will be Celeborn in disguise or him partially corrupted by Melko somehow working against Sauron for his own purposes (empathy with orcs?). It is just a whole mess. It makes no sense and it certainly is not what happens in the real story as you know.

    No, the Tolkien estate does not green light the scripts. That’s not how adaptations after acquiring IP rights work, and the showrunners would never have agreed to something like that. GRRM doesn’t have green light power over an ASOIAF show.
    Amazon acquired the rights. As part of that deal they gave Simon Tolkien a credit on the show, just like GRRM has an EP credit on GoT & HOTD. HE DOESNT ACTUALLY HAVE THE POWER TO STOP WHAT THE SHOWRUNNERS WANT TO WRITE, otherwise Simon Tolkien would be the showrunner.
    Once they sold the rights, Amazon’s showrunners can write whatever they want. Whatever tiny bit of involvement Simon has is just for marketing and to keep Tolkien’s estate from posting negative things about the show.
    Name one person that has sold the TV rights to something and also maintained greenlight rights over every script, without being the showrunner…

      You're totally wrong. Amazon only has rights to the LOTR trilogy and appendices and case by case approvals for other events/names. I don't think anyone who was a LotR fan hoped RoP to be a failure, but that doesn't mean that being slavishly optimistic is to anyone's benefit either. LotR isn't great because it's set in Middle Earth. It's great because it's a well crafted story. RoP is just a badly crafted story, regardless of its setting. There's no reason why anyone should be rooting for something to succeed just because a gigantic corporation spent hundreds of millions of dollars to buy the rights to make a series that is constructed in the same setting, especially since the construction is so shoddy on so many different levels. I can understand the appeal of being a contrarian to a stance on a side of a perceived culture war, but you're missing the mark if you think Amazon deserves any credit or support for this project. I think misplaced optimism isn't any better than misplaced pessimism in this case.
    You make the statement: "I mean we all win if something is good"
    but if we are to take that thesis as having merit, we also have to accept the inverse can also be the case, that 'we all lose if something is bad'. And with RoP... we all lost.

    I'm a big Tolkien fan since the 70s. I'm still watching. My take is that it gives me something to be pissed at other than politics.
    I like your take.

    Payne and Mckay are worse than the worst used car salesman. 😂 the story is so 💩 crappy and cringe worthy.

    Keep making up these excuses as the Tolkien Estate looks at every RoP script before confirming them be ok with what content is allowed in them and corrections if you're not happy then why aren't you calling them out then send them letters. All you have to say is you prefer the PJ films despite him heavily changing the lore as well as creating scenes that didn't happen like Islidur and Elrond in mount doom with the ring, Gandalf vs Saruman at Orthanc, No Elves at Helms Deep and so on then changed the motives of many characters too the list goes on but no criticism by some channels so called Tolkien fans because they were great films. I am glad RoP isn't like PJ films as it should be different.

    Things work differently in the Elven world.
    Emotions are heightened, feelings of strong affection and kinship expressed.
    Elrond whispers emotionally "Forgive me" to Galadriel because he will not yield Galadriel's Nenya's ring to Adar in return for Galadriel's life. And Galadriel wouldn't have it any other way. Galadriel whispers fiercely back to Elrond, "WIn!".
    Galadriel does not want Elrond to surrender her Nenya's ring to Adar. Galadriel made Elrond promise to pursue Sauron at all costs, even if it meant putting that above or costing Galadriel her life.
    Elrond is absolutely heartbroken and distraught that he cannot put Galadriel's life above giving power to the enemy, Adar and his Orcs.
    Elrond knows his answer to Adar, refusing to give up the ring, is essentially a death sentence for Galadriel. So Elrond expresses his deep affection for Galadriel by giving her a tender kiss, essentially expressing his deep love and affection for Galadriel.
    That it's absolutely KILLING him that he can't save her life even thought that possibility has been offered to him by Adar. His kiss to Galadriel is his message to Galadriel is that he does not love Galadriel any the less, by refusing to save his dearest friend's life.
    In the 1st episode, in Season 1, Elrond said that Galadriel was conflicted and here is Elrond suffering a deep conflict - saving Galadriel's life verses trying to save Eregion and her Elven inhabitants.
