  • Amazon's the Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power San Diego Comic-Con trailer was another scripted DISASTER for the triliion dollar company. With the release of yet another teaser trailer, we still know little of the story and lot about diversity and Inclusion. We also recieved confirmation that all the worst concerns of fandom were true. This is subverted FAKE Tolkien.

      It may indeed be a grrrrrrreat adaptation... It just won't be a faithful adaptation.
      Peter Jackson nailed it when he put Tolkien's name at the front of opening credits, and he put his name at the end credits. And every time I see his directors credit at the end, I just think... It's right were it deserves to be after realizing Tolkien's world. And he (Jackson) earned it.

    As a female fan of Tolkien, I find it SUPER patronising when the actors get up there and talk about, "the females have their own agency and don't do as the men command." as if it's a gift they're giving to us. Clearly they ignorantly forgot about nearly all of the female characters in Tolkien's works who already embody these traits. Lùthien, Èowyn, Galadriel (NOT this version) and so many more. Even fricken Ungoliant!

    • @fatimaariadna8872
      @fatimaariadna8872 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      And not only that, as a female myself I absolutely despise that in order to make a "powerful woman" they have to deprive the character of her femininity and make her appear and act in a more masculine way. It's like they're telling us that in order to be strong a woman must "become man", what a joke.

    • @DirtySouthJR
      @DirtySouthJR 2 ปีที่แล้ว +216

      Luthien stood her ground against Sauron himself.... While he's In the form of the fiercest werewolf in history, mind you.
      *_Then, she strolls right into Morgoth's stronghold and uses her (feminine) allure and power to put Morgoth himself to sleep. Overpowering his attempts to resist_*
      *For all those "actually, it was Morgoth" comments: yes, it was. AFTER Sauron. So, BOTH Dark Lords. Making it/my point all the more impressive. She looked into the eyes of both And lived to tell the tale. And she didn't have to do the fighting herself, either. Yet stands as a remarkably courageous character. One of the most, in fact. Few deeds can even compare*
      Amazon: scrap that boring, sexist nonsense give her a sword and an intolerably smug attitude then have her leading weakling cowardly men in battles! Girl power!
      We already have one of our new female characters of color who is going to utterly brutalize Sauron with her bare hands until he begs for mercy....as a basic human female, no less. And anyone who doesn't adore that is simply intimidated by strong women as we all know and we'll all say in unison.

      Yes that’s a good point. As much as people are focusing on the whole black elf thing (which is nonsense and has no basis in Tolkien’s work), all of the elf casting is awful. How do you read about these graceful, eternally youthful beings and then cast these people? The Hobbit films were so shit on. Even the "fans" are still critical of them today. Don't act like they're paragons of cinema. If asked, virtually every Tolkein fan whose watched both trilogies would tell you LotR is superior in almost every way. Now, having said that, she IS the first female dwarf in a lead, speaking role. The dwarven women in the Hobbit films were literally in the opening scenes when Smaug attacks Erebor, and that's it. You gonna blame Jackson for not including more dwarf women? For not giving a dwarf woman a speaking role. He created a female Elf, he could've created a female dwarf! We should all be so angry at Jackson for not being more inclusive and sensitive to dwarven female's roles in the Hobbit books.

      Everything in the series is for selection:
      strong and independent women (who are just strong, but no one shows even the minimum path of their strength formation) moreover, they lack female strength, it is hypertrophied male - testesterone!
      Gay and lesbian couples whose history is more important to Amazon than the history and events in the world (although fans came for stories from the world) black hobbits, black elves who are NOT canon, no matter what anyone says, according to the law of the Middle-earth world, white elves are their physiology, they cannot be black, even considering that it is fantasy...Do you hear?
      Follow the thoughts: "even considering that this is a fantasy, elves can only be white." Speaking of whites, I don't mean skin color, but European or Slavic appearance.
      An elf, according to the laws of Tolkien's world, cannot look like a popuas sponge from the desert. I hope the blacks are not offended? It's just that half of you are against it too. But Amazon apparently lacks imagination and does not need a Middle-earth story.
      They once again decided to shove COMPULSIVELY cram a story about oppressed minorities, which are trumpeted everywhere and when the viewer, tired of such an obsessive agenda, wants to relax and immerse himself in an interesting story about beautiful and proud elves, fighting and seasoned dwarves, bloodthirsty orcs, noble knights, vile robbers, as well as powerful magicians with their intrigues...what does the viewer see?
      Again, the summons, which he did not ask for, she is already everywhere, completely ugly and not wise in the eyes of elves, intimidated, not fighting dwarves and hobbits that are not distinguishable from them at all (just nothing at all!) and the story is not about a world that is different from ours about the projection of events from ours. How convenient it is for Amazon to offend everyone with racists and haters, even if the criticism adequately says that people were waiting for the wrong thing and this is not the canon according to the laws of Middle-earth

    Five things we learned:
    1) It will be LOTR's The Last Jedi;
    2) Will not respect the Lore;
    3) It doesn't have a Sauron as a (pseudo) Promethean figure doing religious engineering and technocratic theocracy in the south and east of Middle-earth, but an Eminem;
    4) It lacks true diversity, as Tolkien already stated that he was inspired by Ethiopia + Saracens for Harad and Asia (China, Japan) for Rhûn and eastern Middle-earth. And they don't explore or expand the map of Middle-earth. They prefer a black dwarf, a black elf and a black hobbit;
    5) It will be based on our divisive modern politics and the detestable nihilistic world of our times. Instead of showing Galadriel as a "philosopher queen", they go down the feminist path of "a strong woman needs to wear armor and beat a man"

      It’s a risky move. But most people coming to this are going to see it as the prequels to the LOTRs. So Galadriel’s leadership and the respect that everyone shows her in the PJ movies has to be explained.
      To geeks, knowing that she is High Elf/Noldor/ Calaquendi royalty is enough. We know her history. But the TV series doesn’t have the time or space to get into that. So making her a warrior-queen on par with Gil-galad is easy ti understand…and has some basis in the Silmarillion. Galadriel came the ME from Valinor because she wanted a realm of her own and wanted to wield power.
      It’s why Frodo offering her the One Ring was such a trial for her. She had ambition and will enough to be tempted by it, and wield it. “All shall love me, and despair….”
      He willingness to turn away from that power and keep her vow to return to Valinor was the culmination of the growth as a character. That she had learned from the mistakes of her kin. She accepted that she’d be corrupted by it.

      If you want to watch a TV show that doesn't do that shit, but instead respects it's characters and tells an actually gripping story that goes places you don't expect, watch The Expanse.
      It is by far the best sci-fi TV show to come out in recent years and by the time I was up to the 3rd season I legit couldn't stop watching it (it's got 5 seasons with a 6th in the works).
      In terms of games, might I recommend Shadow Tactics, Blades of the Shogun. Every character in that game, both the men and the women, do things in their own special way and they all have strengths and weaknesses so they work together, and one character in particular is interesting because she does things that she can only do precisely because she is a woman.
      She also happens to greatly respect the man she is romantically involved with, something he more than earned.
      Then there's also anime and manga. There exists thousands of fantastic female characters in these mediums but the two that seem the most popular in the west right now are My Hero Academia (an anime who's fans have described as "every girl is best girl") and Kimetsu no Yaiba, an indescribably beautiful anime that features both manly men and feminine women (and is written by a woman who respects both).

      An elf, according to the laws of Tolkien's world, cannot look like a popuas sponge from the desert. I hope the blacks are not offended? It's just that half of you are against it too. But Amazon apparently lacks imagination and does not need a Middle-earth story.

He stuck to the lore as best as he could, and that's all you need. He made it clear right from the get go that he was a caretaker of Tolkien's work and that they needed to be as faithful as they could to that world. The Hobbit trilogy is good, but not nearly as masterful as the LOTR trilogy. That's one of the major problems with the Rings of Power series coming up - it's dated since it has so many ideological narratives inserted into it. The people who are creating it don't view themselves as caretakers. They view themselves as virtuous change agents who can do whatever they want with the material. They're arrogant and ignorant.

    1. Hit lightening in a bottle: The start of fans only grows from here; through word of mouth, social media, etc.
    2. Figure out what made fans happy
    3. Make a glorious string of hits
    4. Make sudden unwanted changes for the sake of changing them
    5. Company wonders why fans (that got them to where they are), are then upset for changing things that didn't need changing
    6. The new people they tried to appeal to see the amount of anger and uproar from existing fans
    7. Now that has company lost out on its fanbase, potential new fans, and confidence from investors.
    8. The company then usually tries to make some half-baked attempt at rekindling what they once had, but longtime fans are tired of the bs, and they've moved on.

    Somewhere, Young Rippa just fell asleep in his chair.
    Making all the women strong and independent isn't revolutionary -- it happens in everything that's produced these days; it's mandated by woke Hollywood. And it isn't good storytelling ...
    Women should be written to be interesting characters, and that means some of them *should* be flawed and some of them *should* be subservient to men, or anything else the script requires.

      The thing about any strong characters is that they have to be strong in the face of some kind of hardship. Sarah Connor in T2 is still one of my favorite action characters. Much because she's had time to prepare and she's still having to fight while scared and underpowered. Same with Ripley in Alien. Most anyone would be scared beyond any rational action in their situation. But male action heroes would have been portrayed much more one dimensional which is pretty boring. Them being women allows the filmmakers to have them show more emotion, and in turn making the whole thing more relatable and realistic. The problem I have with modern female action heroes is that making them overpowered and one dimensional makes them as boring as male action heroes. Possibly more so because the suspension of disbelief is harder to maintain.
      We need more realistic male heroes, not more unrealistic female ones.

    The narrative that Rings of Power includes the first female Dwarf ever seen on screen is the same line that was used for Black Panther. It was claimed that movie was the first superhero movie lead by a Black protagonist - just conveniently ignoring that the 1998 Blade movie starring Wesley Snipes that kickstarted the modern comic book movie trend was ever made, as well as ignoring its two sequels and Spawn - which was patently untrue but used to try to paint a pretty by the numbers superhero tale as some grand, epochal 'cultural moment' and so sell more tickets. Amazon is cribbing from Disney/Marvel and trying to pull the same trick here, for the same cynical and self serving reasons. There are huge periods of the first and 2nd age where we don't see what Galadriel is doing and it's explained that she has a desire to explore and see all of Middle Earth ... also, in letter 348 Tolkien writes that Galadriel means "Maiden crowned with gleaming hair" in Sindarian, and that it was her secondary name. In her youth, she was of amazon disposition, and bound up her hair as a crown when taking part in athletic feats." ... also when she was born she was named Artanis (noble woman) but as she grew to heights the same as men her mother called her Nerwen or "man maiden" ... so the idea that she could have been a warrior that riveled men in the 2nd age is not far fetched even a little bit

Don't believe what the internet tells you. Those in charge of what you hear on it are a small vocal minority - very vocal, but very small.
      The wokefying of everything beloved is simply a product of our generation. A small group of the worst of the worst took advantage of the times we live in (woke White house, woke Congress, woke Social media) to try to rewrite all of our beloved franchises in their image. This will become their undoing, however, because they did it too fast and too aggressively, hence they alienated pretty much everyone out there, despite having the support of major media conglomerates like Disney.
      Most people blame Amazon for enabling them. But Amazon played the safe card - unlike Disney, which threw themselves into the woke propaganda wave like a headless chicken, Amazon gives free reign to whoever has an original idea with potential. The Grand Tour, The Boys, Invincible, Vox Machina and a number of other non-woke series are extremely successful (hell, The Boys even mocks the hell out of wokeists), so whether The Rings Of Power will succeed or not, they do not care - if it is successful, they will churn more out of it, if it flops (which it will), they may make 1-2 seasons and will eventually pull the plug.
      What will happen, is that the Prime account holders will simply not watch it, but would go watch The Boys, or Invincible, instead. And these morons will understand the hard way that these tech giants care only about the money and nothing else.
