I read somewhere if you are a contestant on TPIR and for whatever reason your episode doesn't air--(i.e program interrupted by a news special report on CBS)-you don't receive the prizes--apparently you sign a release form after winning and are made aware of this clause
Once you have to replace the parts, finishing, interior, paint, etc, like any collector's item, it lowers the value dramatically. If all you're doing is taking a shell of a car and adding in new parts to get it running, unless it's a very specific car (like a 64 Aston Martin DB-5 -- James Bond's car in Goldfinger) you basically took away any and all value of it. Best example I can think of is the 64 1/2 Mustang. The body is about $8,000, working condition is $15,000, all original parts and working is $250,000 and if still original paint job, you're looking at an early retirement package.
A car is only worth what people will pay for it regardless of the time or effort put into it. So for used cars its value is generally determined by auction results. From 2003 through 2014 the average auction price for this vehicle was 54K. In 2010 when this TPIR was filmed the average was 49K. The highest ever recorded price at auction was 162K (however this is weird since the price has never before or after that sale exceeded 120K). The lowest auction price was $10500.
Love those new Putters that they have cuz they have really comfortable handle grips and it definitely does make a difference cuz I'm really bad at putting!!!
As they mentioned in the video, it's interior had to be redone. They said the price was around $35,000 in the video, which is probably accurate as they go for about 50,000 if they're all original. But you could never get 500,000 out of that car, no matter how good of shape it's in. You'd be a bit closer with some of the other models, a drop-head coupe can go for 6 digits, but realistically you'll never get the listed price for a car, and you'd be lucky to get 30,000 for it.
Continues: This dusty old piece of crap runs like a turd, weighs thousands of pounds and has horrible brakes! You'll never need a mechanic cuz this thing will never run again and you won't like driving a turd on the wrong side of the car anyway! Glance at the hi-Fi stereophonic aftermarket Craco tape deck and custom Walmart 6x9's carved into the luxurious door panels! You'll be the life of the stoplights on the road when you discover the lifetime supply of Grey Poupon in the trunk! After taxes and deterioration, you'll wish you took the cash prize option, congratulations!
I totally know that this is my third comment on this video but that was like one of those around the rim basketball shots that could have gone either way!!! So congrats on the Bentley but I still don't know how that only cost $35,000!?! He'll be rolling up to the elementary school parking in the principal spot driving a Bentley but since driver side is on the opposite side that's really going to screw you over for going through drive thru places and even like at the bank for the ATM - so obviously you need a chauffeur!!! Love it cuz what elementary school principal drives a Bentley - like that's got to be the first in history!!!
+Psythik Thank You. It's a common grammatical error, but it drives me bananas when I see "should of", "could of", "would of", etc..... In the defense of people who do it, when spoken, it does sound as if it should be "of", but didn't we learn that ("have" instead of "of") in like 1st or 2nd grade? ? LOL
1964 Bentley s3 in good condition is worth 34,000. but this looks like a fully restored one. so anywhere between $65,000 to 210,000 it is actually worth. even when this video was aired it was still roughly the same value. perhaps a drop in price of 4,000.
the1sogu1 either he's married an his wife does the shopping, or he's the standard single guy, like me, and just grabs from the shelf without looking at the price. My guess anyway.
I'm thinking the restoration job on that Bentley probably incorporates some aftermarket stuff. I don't think a vintage 64 Bentley restored would be as cheap as $35,000. I mean your standard run-of-the-mll SUV costs as much as that today.
Most vintage restored luxury cars like Bentleys and Rolls-Royces aren't as valuable as many people might think ($35,000 is probably optimistic). For that matter, vintage restored cars in general aren't as valuable as many people think. They see or hear about certain ones selling for huge money, but they don't realize that there is something special about those ones that makes them particularly desirable/valuable. Take for example, 1960s/1970s Mopars. You could have two of them; same year, make, and model; both restored equally well and looking pretty much identical to each other, and one might be worth $20,000 and the other might be worth $250,000, just because one of them was originally equipped with a 318 engine and the other was originally equipped with a 426 Hemi engine.
"He won a Bentley!" Now you get to not only have to pay the IRS almost $13,000, but you will have to immediately pay the CA tax because you won the prize in CA (yes, some states are crooked money gluttons). Then if you have state tax in your home state, you will have to pay them too. Oh and all the taxes you pay are based on retail, which is not retail-istic. If this Bentley was sold instead of given away on TPIR, it would probably bring about $28,000. However, getting back to your tax obligation, there is a silver lining. Most states will reduce the state tax if you paid the CA tax. Isn't that wonderful of them?! So, congratulations Eric, you just got saddled with a big headache on national television and you might even be able to sell the car for enough to cover those taxes you owe. You see, on such shows, there are always lots of terrific people outside, just waiting to relieve people of their new burdens and believe you me, by the time they walk out of that building, they feel like they've just been financially raped, which the people waiting outside know (your now defeated state of mind) and are ready to take advantage of. Of those who sell their stuff these angels of mercy (and the odds are pretty high that they will), they not only don't get retail, but they don't even get what they'd probably make selling the items privately. In other words, Eric was likely offered about $15,000 -$17,000 for the car by the various **cough**, businessmen. In other words, against the odds, Eric got on TPIR and then was one of the rare ones to make it on stage. Then he was a big winner! His prize, mountains tax paperwork and enough left over for a Big Mac combo. Good for you Eric! Of course, there are those that do make out better than Eric would. It's people who win cash or prizes+cash. The game show can't place a "retail value" on cash. For example, those who won cash on Jeopardy, will end up with about half of the money they won. In the end, it's best to win money rather than prizes. Even Aunt Bee had to sell off most of her prizes to pay the taxes.
You fill out the forms and pay the taxes to California and the IRS when you file at the beginning of the next year. Only if you're from Canada do you have to pay taxes before you ever take possession of the prize.
I'm guessing he didn't sit down in the driver's seat of the car because (I'm guessing) there may have been a light in there, that shined up (to light up the passenger compartment to look good on video).
Either it's a salvage, or something similar, or it's the shell and basic parts of one, or its an auction car, perhaps a donation car that they picked up for this particular special episode...could be many reasons
whoever the car model is - yum :) granted we all love Gwendolyn & Rachel.... even more back then when they were such fresh faces. now they're the hot moms.

Straight to Los Santos Customs to get the upgrades and DEFINITELY a respray.
I remember watching this when it aired. Even Craig Ferguson was blown away.
I was expecting it to cost 50k or more since it's vintage
Imagine one guy in the crowd, "YOU WILL NOT MAKE THIS PUTT...JACKASS!"
Only $35K? That seems low.
It's a vintage. That means the car costs a lot less than its MSRP
Drew: So what’s he gonna win, George?
George: An OLD CAR!!!!
Still the best price moment ever.
Jay Leno should of drove that car onto the show
+he chit Should *have*. (Or Should've)
? LOL
Starlene JIviden I bet your dumbass prolly don't know how; a Judge becomes a Judge, how long a patented last, why America purchased Alaska
+Psythik also *driven
MichaelB769 anyone know how a Judge becomes a Judge??? anyone????
And the crowd erupts.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
That was great.
Drew jumping at 7:21 is so cute Lol
1964 Bentley s3 in good condition is worth 34,000. but this looks like a fully restored one. so anywhere between $65,000 to 210,000 it is actually worth. even when this video was aired it was still roughly the same value. perhaps a drop in price of 4,000.
Just trying to help a brother out on taxes!
They cursed him with maintenance bills.
lmao , exactly; may not even be worth the tax in order to sell it
@TheMilk Trafficker all the negative comments are from they hate us cuz they ain’t us crowd.
He is so damn lucky he got that extra putt lol! His reaction was fun to watch.
are we just going to ignore the fact that he thought cheez whiz costed less than pasta sauce? I mean has he ever been to a grocery store?
the1sogu1 either he's married an his wife does the shopping, or he's the standard single guy, like me, and just grabs from the shelf without looking at the price. My guess anyway.
the1sogu1 the guy who won the car is my uncle, so piss of dude.
It was probably because he was comparing cheap Kraft cheese sauce to nice pasta sauce made in Italy
are we going to ignore the fact that you don't know the past tense of "cost" is "cost" and not "costed"
the1sogu1 😂😂😂😂
I like fat Drew more than skinny Drew.
Mst3kfanatic1 both boring
I bet drew doesnt
When was drew skinny?

Anyone else randomly got this in there recommended coincidently on 4/21/19
Nah it's 4/30/19
nah it's 5/04/19
Hahahaha I get this shit all the time I just choose not to open it until I really feel like my life is worth watching jt

I'm guessing he didn't sit down in the driver's seat of the car because (I'm guessing) there may have been a light in there, that shined up (to light up the passenger compartment to look good on video).
Good to see teachers getting some awesome prizes. He can sell that car for 2 years pay
The car was $35k, as the announcer said. That's 2/3 year pay.
wtf?! I missed that i just assumed it was worth a bunch especially since it was older.
Doubt he could afford the TTL with the shit teachers get.
Awesome Crowd lead up and response.
I watch these winning clips to cheer me up. It works. :)
Either it's a salvage, or something similar, or it's the shell and basic parts of one, or its an auction car, perhaps a donation car that they picked up for this particular special episode...could be many reasons
whoever the car model is - yum :)
granted we all love Gwendolyn & Rachel.... even more back then when they were such fresh faces. now they're the hot moms.
I was on the edge of my seat!!! I'm so happy for him!! We need a follow up, does he still own the car???
