@Teisted Jedi(open): Over 30 years ago, when I was a teen, I saw one such show; an old lady bid in Contestant's Row something like $850, and this young guy on her left bid $851. She then proceeded to pull out some mini baseball bat from her purse, to which Bob Barker asked: "Why do you have that out?" She replied, "Because of people like HIM!"
Someone actually shoved another contestant for doing that. I don't blame her either. If you're going to one-up a bit the LEAST you could do is give them $5 breathing room.
I have never like the $1 more bid. The most annoying is when they are not even paying attention and Bob or Drew have to literally scream at them. They ask what is the highest bid, bid $1 more and win.

At 9:51, that's a historic moment! I bet Bob wished he could've been there for that. I'm sure there was some luck involved, but he did an interview later on and said that he did in fact study common price is right goods to get their actual retail price!
The reason Drew wasn't enthusiastic was because they delayed the reveal for a really long time, apparently like 90 minutes to find out if Terry cheated or not. They couldn't find any evidence and Drew was tired of waiting.

Excellent job of you putting this together and especially saving the "best for last." I knew the woman on the left was going to win or Bob would have gone to her first. How stunning!
the only time that the "2nd person" should know they won is if the person who got read 1st "would had won both showcases under normal circumstances"? ( the 1 dollar difference ), as there is always a chance the second read was an overbid or slightly more than 1st read differential....................... only way (it seems as the rules says "the winner" ( one with less difference without going over ) has to be 250 or less in difference without going over ) to have both winning the double showdown would be if both had the exact same differential? ( which has never happened )
In these cases, yes, the dsw is read second. Makes sense because it ends the show on a great note. The last one Bob had to read the one that was a little higher first. It didn't necessarily mean that the other person was going to be closer though. Maybe he did it for suspense.
About the last DSW. The key is this: the double showcase winners are ALWAYS announced last. Thus, since both got the double, the person on the left gets it because she is the last to be announced.

this is great actually! thanks for taking the time to put it together!
utkgrad101 Thanks I truly appreciated!
Thanks that was great to see. I remember watching the last one(when it aired in ‘75 ) where the differences were only $1 apart !
That was both a very enjoyable and well-created video.
We went from $2000 showcases in the 70s to $89000 showcases in the 2010s. 😂😂😂
It happens. Adjustments for both inflation as well as the luxuries that the prizes represented in their times.
Yeah, I got one of the home games and it was way out of date. If I still had Family Feud home game, it might be good.
The 89,000 dollar one was in Bob's last year, 2007.
That was my very first visit to The Price Is Right when Erik had a difference of 240 and won both showcases
How could you visit again if you had come down?
@@sha11235 you can visit as much as you want if you're in LA and reserve a spot in the audience. It's not hard to do.
@@neferazure If you were on the show as a contestant, you can't come on again. You can come back if you weren't picked to come on down.
I’m waiting for a fight when one contestant bids over another contestant by a dollar in contestants row.
Let's see clips of when someone was overbid by $1 but got the price exactly right! I remember seeing that at least once
@@sandal_thong there was one in the 1970s that someone guessed the exact price of the showcase and in December 16 2008 someone named Terry got the exact price of the showcase. I hope someone has the one in the 1970s that someone guessed the exact price of the showcase. I you do send me a link of the episode
At 9:51, that's a historic moment! I bet Bob wished he could've been there for that. Sharon had a difference of $494 and Terry probably thought she'd beaten him but then he found out his bid left him with a difference of exactly ZERO! I like how Terry's going, "What?! What?! What?!" Terry can't believe that not only that did he win both showcases but that he got the bid EXACTLY RIGHT! That's his moment to shine. A difference of $0! You can't do any better than that!
+Alexander Edward Pytko believe it or not its been rumored that Terry "strategically" bid for his prizes to get the exact price by studying all previous showcases. I'm sure there was some luck involved, but he did an interview later on and said that he did in fact study common price is right goods to get their actual retail price!
A Fisher Well, nothing wrong with doing your homework to win.
The reason Drew wasn't enthusiastic was because they delayed the reveal for a really long time, apparently like 90 minutes to find out if Terry cheated or not. They couldn't find any evidence and Drew was tired of waiting.
Jason McGraw Well, yeah. Terry studied a lot of showcases and there's no rule against that. He came to the show prepared.
Alexander Edward Pytko Yep, I didn't say he did anything wrong.
That last one was absolutely wild. Wow.
Until you realize that the lady that won $150,000 in prizes had to come up with $50,000 cash to pay the tax to even accept the prizes.
You're really bad at math
@@petezapartti2459 🤦♂️ how can you say that when you don’t even know the parameters used...? you apparently have no clue how much taxes they take, because it’s very close to what I said. You need to pay roughly 1/3rd of the value of your winnings up front before you can collect the prizes. You’re really bad at being civilized, it seems.
@@tee4222 They’re playing in california, and california’s tax i believe is in the vicinity of 10-15%. Or are they not going off of the state’s sales tax ?
you pay both federal income tax and state tax on prize money in California, which adds up to about 37% in total. But with game shows like this, you need to pay the money prior to receiving your prize.
Wait... They need to pay taxes for that???? 😧😧😧
5:23 FTW. That's probably just about how I'd react, too. And taking it from a guy who was only $802 off? Like a boss.
I was at the one when Vicky Ann broke the record
She's in the 2007 book about the Price is Right history.
Thank you
That last clip wow from one dollar. Wow lol
Cheers for the upload, methinks I saw the first one when it aired. :) Thank you for the memories.
I love bobs reaction 2 wen he reads the actual retail price. Full of surprising feeling and excitement going on!! With drew...hes just weak and boring like hes always pissed or having a bad day
To be fair, all the clips shown were from when Drew was just starting. Nowadays his reactions feel a little more genuine; still not as good as Bob’s reactions, but still with more emotion
Drew is not a good game show host. He should have stuck with WLIIA which requires no skill what so ever.
Especially when that contestant hit it right on the nose! He sounded bored and you could barely hear him!
@@Nettiezoo i no! I would of love 2 hear bobs excitement 4 that. But noooo drew had 2 keep it sooo boring
Bob was a more exciting host. Drew despite hosting for 13 years remains boring as ever.
This is perfect for quarantine viewing
LOVE THIS. THANKS FOR SHARING.
@ 1:23- TOTALLY makes me remember when Karen (oops.. I mean Anastasia) & Jack went to the bowling alley to help Tommy come out and Jack gets to the “Oprah hug’ while repeating “good for you,” 🤣 Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy out there 🙏🏻
When Terry nailed it exactly you could tell they thought he cheated but it turned out he was an avid viewer and had memorized all the prices and had the ability to do the calculations in his head. It's a shame Drew didn't have a better reaction. I mean hitting it exactly, WOW!
cap
@@adrianpale2342Nah, no cap - it was such a big deal at the time that they did an internal investigation. When they were able to recreate his methodology, they went forward with awarding the prizes. Mind you, I COMPLETELY understand Drew’s reaction - I would have been wildly skeptical as well. I suppose not being a veteran like Bob Barker though, he didn’t know that really specific bids like his weren’t that out of the norm
Bob Barker would have reacted in a very different way. Bob will truly be missed!!
There is a very interesting documentary on this called “The Perfect Bid”. It is well worth the watch.
@@adrianpale2342what is cap?
Bob Barker : Sarah Peters , you've just won both show cases ..
Me : Mr . Barker , I believe I'm going to need a police officer to escort me home .. 🙄
$$$ !!!!
Could you imagine going home saying I did within $800 of my showcase and lost.... 🥺
Well, didn't the person win some stuff anyway?
first: thank-you, Susan Graham, for the compilation. second: `because, it gives me a chance, again, to see Amy, being so delighted, with her victory. I wonder: was Amy, ever a cheerleader!? I wonder why some clips come, only,
out one headphone?(I suffer hearing loss and, don't want to raise the volume very loud, on my desktop's external speaker.) One thing more: "DSWs", right? ;)
BEST SCENE EVER!
I love watching these!
I wasn't even born when that last bid happened LOL
5:48 - That was until October 2019 when Michael Strouber won $262,742. Including $202,000 on Plinko.
So much fun to see these! Drew Carey was so UNDERWHELMING in his early years.... he had NONE of Bob Barker's enthusiasm but has improved a little.
Ya, the guy gets it exactly right and he barely shows any emotion.
It takes awhile to get used to doing this show.
@@my3dviews To be fair the producers initially thought he cheated to get that price right on the nose so there was a LOT of suspicion surrounding that bid (though they had no proof to back up their claims). And needless to say, Drew, being the rookie TPIR host that he was at the time, was NOT prepared for such an event to happen. Lol
@@cameraredeye3115 How could he have cheated? That would require that an insider gave him the info.
@@my3dviews They thought someone in the crowd(his wife?) was giving him answers somehow and stopped taping to ensure he didn't actually cheat.
Great work. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent job of you putting this together and especially saving the "best for last." I knew the woman on the left was going to win or Bob would have gone to her first. How stunning!
The sound is missing on one of the clips.
The last one looks like a young Roseanne Barr. Lol. Cute.
Wait till the IRS gets ahold of them. You don't get the prices to you pay the taxes and if you can't pay the taxes you don't get anything
So if you are the last person to get your bid read... you already know you've won!?! lol I am a big fan of this show & never knew that...
Not necessarily. Going second loses plenty of times but all DSWs have their bid read second.
the only time that the "2nd person" should know they won is if the person who got read 1st "would had won both showcases under normal circumstances"? ( the 1 dollar difference ), as there is always a chance the second read was an overbid or slightly more than 1st read differential....................... only way (it seems as the rules says "the winner" ( one with less difference without going over ) has to be 250 or less in difference without going over ) to have both winning the double showdown would be if both had the exact same differential? ( which has never happened )
not always.. some times there is a double overbid. on those days it doesnt matter who's bid gets read first or 2nd
In these cases, yes, the dsw is read second. Makes sense because it ends the show on a great note. The last one Bob had to read the one that was a little higher first. It didn't necessarily mean that the other person was going to be closer though. Maybe he did it for suspense.
@@richardgaspard7917 You're right, Rich! I've seen that happen myself, even in the Barker days!
About the last DSW. The key is this: the double showcase winners are ALWAYS announced last. Thus, since both got the double, the person on the left gets it because she is the last to be announced.
2:58 she left that lady hanging lol
Thanks for sharing, those were fun to watch!
