I bought mine secondhand for an incredible price quite a few years ago and I don’t carry it as often as my vanity case, mini (square), or vintage full flap WOC (shoulder). I can’t bring it to work because I don’t want my managers to think I don’t need a raise lol.
Rather than saying its poorly designed, I'd personally argue that its design is a bit outdated. This bag first came out in the 1950s, people in 2022 are caring way different items with them. I guess this bag might need a bit of an evolved design!
I agree with your verbiage, but I will say that I think the design is functional and should stay the same. CHANEL offers so many different kinds of bags that are classic and beautiful as well that can likely provide a buyer’s desired functionality.
CHANEL classic flap is my favorite bag of all times 😢. I love the size of the medium and the fact that it is a classic. It fits everything I need and still looks sleek. However, I absolutely understand your perspective on unpopular opinions on classics. I feel the same way about the Birkin. I have coveted that bag since I was in my teens. When I finally purchased one it was like a complete let down. Once I actually had it in my position the first thing I said was , “It’s just a tote!” I ended up selling it 😆
The most important thing is that whatever bag you have in your collection you have to love it. I ended up not loving the medium you ended up not loving your Birkin. It is super disappointing though 😕
You know I agree with all of this! It's frustrating to me that so many people feel the need to have one of these bags because they're classic when, in reality, they do not work for a lot of people. I totally get that it would work well for some but it is definitely not my favorite design/functionality for me.

I purchased my Chanel M/L Single Classic Flap at the boutique on 57th St. in 2008. The bag was 1/4 of the price it is today (minus the double flap option). There is no way I would purchase one today. I am satisfied with the one I have. 😉
That’s awesome. I’m pretty sure that it’s still crazy even adjusted for inflation! You’re lucky you got in when you did. For me, at this juncture- at that price is has to PERFECT! I’m not ‘settling’ with some thing that’s +4k 🙅🏽♀️
Yeah I've completely given up on the classic flap because the price for what you're getting is not worth it to me. So glad I rented the boy bag too because I didn't enjoy wearing it either.
I have always wanted a CHANEL medium classic flap but about a year ago, I purchased the Karl Lagerfeld leather shoulder bag in the color red from Dillard’s which is very similar to the classic flap, and I really love that bag. I only spent about $200 on it and after owning it for a year, I realize that while I love the look of it, I couldn’t imagine myself spending $9k on the real thing. It is a classic for sure and I love the look of it but would much rather have the cheaper alternative. And like you said, you really can’t fit that much inside of it either. Plus I like that it’s from KL as he was once the creative director at CHANEL. Thank you for sharing. ❤️
A more affordable alternative is definitely a better option. I'd be a lot more willing to sacrifice on functionality if these bags weren't so crazy expensive!!
I also have a Karl Lagerfeld tweed bag that I bought from TJMaxx for $69. It looks just like the Reissue. It is beautiful and I love it as much as my Chanel bags.
I have a medium classic flap, but my $800 speedy is still my favourite by a far! I never use my classic flap due to it not being very practical. My speedy is so practical and I love using it so much. I find these bags very overrated but they do hold their value
I love the Speedy! It's such a great bag. I love when bags are practical- also I'm willing to sacrifice bags retaining value if they are practical beautiful and timeless. If they're all 3 then I won't be selling! Also, a ag holding it's value is only useful to you if you actually go to sell it!
I did want a classic flap for a long time. Recently, after I purchased the Karl Lagerfeld Agyness I have changed my tune. The classic flap is not 100% off the list but my desire for it has been reduced. The style and functionality of the classic flap is something that I’ve realized is not for me.
I've only just discovered your channel, and THANK YOU for exposing the shortcomings of this bag! You're right in every aspect. I much prefer the Moscow totes and some other tote designs. Not so fussy and definitely more functional. I had a Boy bag, and it was pretty useless. It held my phone, a thin "card wallet," a lip gloss, and my keys. No room for glasses, sunglasses, gum, etc. Anything more than that put it out of shape, so I sold it. I really think many of these bags are meant for women who have nothing more than "phone, wallet, keys."
CHANEL classic flap bags are for people who appreciate the “why” the bag was designed the way that it is. The metallic is not a good look for the classic. In a year the average person can spend 10,000 on Amazon and fast food/dining (bad habits) If they leave those things alone a Chanel bag is definitely something they could afford if they decided to.
My Down payment on my condo was 20 k I cannot wrap my brain on spending 10k on a bag lol, and the used ones 6-7k used. Can’t wrap by brain on the brain on the new pricepoints, glad all my luxury things are old !!!
Honestly I have more fun with the older stuff anyway. At work I handle a lot of the bags that are 5000, 7000, sometimes 20,000 and more but outside of that being way above my budget it becomes less interesting hard to explain

The CF used to be on my wishlist but I removed it a few price increases ago. I have pretty much moved on. I still think it is a beautiful bag but it doesn’t fit my lifestyle. I wouldn’t feel comfortable carrying such an expensive bag on public transportation and I believe it will continue to increase in price past 10k in the future. Thank you for sharing your perspective. I know what you mean I lived in New York for several years before I carried any luxury bags at all. For public transport like the subway it’s best to carry things that are hard wearing and water repellent, heaven for bid there’s a sudden stop 🫣

Great video. I agree with everything you said. You’re totally on the money about the size and the useless pockets. But I still enjoy these bags. It carries everything I need for non-work outings and for reasons that are hyper specific to me, I like how it opens and how it hangs. I even wear mine crossbody (I know, unpopular position). It’s all so individual.
The Chanel classic flaps are my absolute dream bags! However, we are all entitled to our opinions. Also, something that works for some, may not work for others. I particularly luv the Chanel single flap jumbos that were discontinued!
The single flap for me is definitely a little bit better but the overall design and construction of the bag doesn't do it for me. I have spent YEARS viewing this bag on the pedestal and now that I'm in such close proximity to them all the time, they fall short of the ideal. They say " Never meet your heros" this is why 😕

I bought my 1st M/L classic flap new in 2005 for $1697 straight out the door...tax included. I can't see ever buying another one new at the current prices. It's robbery at this point. It's the exact same bag it was in 2005 and before that. Nothing new.
I lucked out about 4 years ago with the purchase of a beige Chanel double flap for $450. Yes, it has been authenticated and it is authentic. The bag was previously owned by a show host from Peru. I purchased also from her an Hermes Oran sandals for $150.
Love the alternative you showed. Can’t wait to see your review. I love my classic flap. But it’s a 1 and done sort of thing. Pull it out for weddings and brunch. Got mines on my Paris trip years ago so I think also it’s the memory attached that makes me love it

I’m the same way, I don’t like to have the same thing in multiple colors so far. I do have one vintage Louis Vuitton in both monogram and Epi leather, but the price points are not even comparable LOL

I think the Dior Caro bag is a more practical bag with a similar look! I've been eyeing the padded medium Caro ($4,600 I believe) ever since I saw Jisoo from BlackPink wearing it haha.. The back actually has a functional slip to put your phone and the chain is removable so you can use it as a clutch or add a different chain to give it a new look.
Yes. I agree with you. I love the Caro medium. I'm hoping to add that bag into my collection this year. My first Dior bag. Or I'm debating on a Lady Dior. We shall see. Both are on my wishlist. Also the classic flap medium is also on my wishlist atm but I doubt I would buy it new from the boutique because it's so expensive now. I might buy it preloved.
Omg! You are so correct! There are sooo many things that do nothing and are not usable on this bag. I have the jumbo so even tho it holds a ton it is verrry heavy and you can’t wear it cross body unless you are 7 feet tall. Having said all of that I still am glad I have it but I will not add any more classic flaps to my collection. One is enough for me. I much more appreciate and love seasonal vintage Chanel.
I agree with you! It’s pretty outdated and I don’t tend to grab for mine 🤷🏼♀️ however I do hear the mini rectangle is a better choice. It doesn’t have the second flap, and is one open space and is a fraction of the price of a CP, but it cannot be used as a shoulder bag, just crossbody. Just a thought, it might be a better choice for you!
THANK YOU 👏👏 for this honest review of why the Classic Chanel Double Flap is not worth the price & why you don't HAVE to have one in your collection just because so many people say you do & it's a "classic"! All your points were spot on especially the functionality of it you can fit a purse, keys, phone & mini water bottle in it then it's full, the love notes zip part is just useless, it doesn't sit right on my body & I find the style of it boring. Not to mention the fact that the insane price tag makes you scared to use it incase anything spills in it, lipstick gets on the inside or closing the clutch lock damages the shape! I was BEYOND BLESSED to win two brand new medium Classic Chanel double flap black lambskin with gold hardware handbags in December 2020 but as for them holding their resale that's not true unless you find a specialist (even then they wanted half the selling price ) as when I tried to sell one of them the offers were appallingly low!! I ended up having to sell it for only £2600 less than half the price...one of the BIGGEST REGRETS in my life it still breaks my heart 💔😭!! The one I still own I literally have had it out the box & worn only 4 times so yes DON'T WASTE YOUR ££
Definitely 100% agree! That really sucks that you’ve lost that much money- my theory is the new prices just can’t keep pace with demand. Not enough people really have the willingness or ability to put down *that* much money for a handbag. I’m glad this video is reaching people though. I think the classic is too highly coveted and overrated

I have actually been wanting a single flap over a double flap. Structure is important but it also needs to be able to fit my stuff. This video has actually made me feel better about looking at other flap bags due to my budget. I’ve seen some really cool seasonal flaps, that are still expensive but more “affordable” for me.
I love flap bags! And while the medium didn't work out for I did find a less expensive seasonal alternative. Trust me , there are THOUSANDS out there. They're cool, they're different, a lot of them take a lot of the signature design features, but they're more rare and less $$ Seasonal FTW
You had some very good points. Especially that the bag needs to evolve with some of the more useless features. One point about the classic flap I would like to make , is the longevity of the bag. I see classic flaps that are 40 years old that look fantastic, almost better than new with a gorgeous patina. But if you look at a big old slouchy Birkin no thank you. I am a shoulder bag girl and I love it. I also am very tall so all the strap lengths are just fine thank you.
A lot of the time the older Birkins in Togo leather are the slouchy ones if you find them in Epsom they tend to hold their structure a bit more however I think we know my opinion on the Birkin as far as its future in my collection. Very unlikely
Great video. With price increases Chanel is out of my reach along with some of the cons it has definitely makes me appreciate steering clear. I would definitely love your thoughts on Salvatore Ferragamo. I don't hear much talk about the brand in the luxury world. I just ordered two bags pre-loved and the quality seems pretty amazing and the price point is great also.

I would only buy this Classic Chanel bag preloved and I was lucky enough to get one with 24 carat gold plating for £2400 pounds last year in very very good condition. I think I will be sick if I spend over £3000 on one bag!!!
The taupe one was $3500 and it made my stomach turn a little bit. I love it, but it will be a WHILE before I spend that much again. Today I’m carrying a Brandon Blackwood bag I bought for $150. Bags being expensive doesn’t make them better

I found out that I don’t like the medium size on me while trying it in the boutique but I love my small classic flap. I just wished I bought it years ago when the price tag was better. Now even if it’s one of my favorite in my collection, I’m not sure I will ever buy an other one in a different color since it’s so expensive.
I have to acknowledge I’m biased in favor of big bags! So I chose the medium bc it’s that much bigger (I’m also above avg height and long-limbed!!) So I scrapped the small from the roster- HOWEVER- they are fully interchangeable, and I think there doesn’t need to be both 🤷🏽♀️ Glad to hear you found a bag that you love!!
For the past 2 years I’ve said to myself that I will buy a classic flap but end up being drawn to the Chanel Trendy CC. The Trendy CC is my favourite Chanel bag.
Agree!!! I find them difficult to use and as you said they don't hold much considering their size. I had the chain lengthened which helps but I think they need to get rid of the inside flap and have even thought of cutting it off. That being said they do look good. 🤣

Thank you so much for bringing all these points, especially the 1st and 2nd ones. I came to the same conclusion and cannot justify the price point with or without price increases. I would stick to Hermes at the very least because the luxury lies on the craftsmanship. I own 1 medium classic flap that I will happily get rid of to finance my next Hermes quota bag.
Well said - I finally got rid of my medium large as it was driving me nuts esp the strap drop was just too short esp doubled up and the capacity is so small for the size !! I’ve always felt this bag is over rated !! I prefer the reissue more but then I bought mine many years ago !!
@@KWSHOPS I agree, it's so sad that the classic doesn't take the size design of the reissue as the resissue is definitely more well thought out, but maybe perhaps they made it that way due to the imperfections from the classic design. I wish the reissue was better appreciated !!
I'm happy I have my classic medium and I wont be selling it. BUT I'm afraid to use it, because if its damaged or stolen, its gonna cost double to replace it.
I have 3 Chanel flap bags that I purchased preloved from Fashionphile a few years ago but they are single flap which I prefer because the capacity is better. I have the Maxi in a single flap. It fits everything but I don't reach for it often. Thankfully, I bought it in excellent condition for $3995 before they started adding taxes. They are great bags but so are my Coach Parker bags, my Kate Spade Natalia bag, and my Karl Lagerfeld tweed Agyness bag.. These brands have a full back pocket that is great for your phone. I would never put a lipstick loose in my purse for fear it may leak or open and ruin the inside of the bag so that feature makes no sense to me.There are so many handbags that are quite beautiful that are similar to the Chanel flap bag that are designed better at a much more affordable price.
that is another great point about lipstick. They are not nearly secure enough for me to want to consider putting inside of my bags. For several reasons lipgloss is a better option because at bare minimum they have a screw cap.
The color of yours is especially unique and beautiful…I’ve always wondered if I’d like the design of the flap style myself. It’s gorgeous but I’d be scared it’s not functional too!! I really love the color of yours!! I think one day I’ll get one that looks similar from Michael Kors or a fake dupe from dh gate 😂

I agree, flap bags are a bit of a hassle to get into, imo. I have a cheap “classic flap” style bag that I like to wear when going out-however it cannot fit much. If I ever got a Chanel, itd probably just be a simple WOC.
I appreciate your review of the Chanel classic flap. Very few people are brave enough to be honest about it. I own a few Chanel bags, but the classic flap is a little boring for me and one I will never buy, even if the prices were not going up. I like bags with some extra character and I don’t see this in the classic flap. I think it has been hyped up for years. Some People looked at it as a status thing. The bag you have looks a little delicate and might not wear well.
I have two classic flaps bought in 2018 and 2019, I don’t use them much at all, compared to a pre-pre-loved Chanel Blizzard flap with a zip open top (it’s a fun bag, look it up!) from 2010. The Blizzard is practical, and a lot of Chanel’s seasonal bags are far more practical for peoples lifestyle today. But the main features of the classic flap dates from 1955 and people back then carried different things. People buy classic flaps for the staying power (“investment value”) in that it will always be considered stylish/luxurious, the same way the Birkin/Kelly is. The Kelly is okay functionality wise now that it has a shoulder strap but the Birkin is the most unpractical bag 😂 it’s meant to be casual but generally comes in firstly large sizes, it’s a tote, but it’s hand carry only. The 25cm Birkin can fit a decent amount but it’s handled can’t even fit onto most people’s elbows so it’s very seriously hand/wrist carry. Now that’s a timeless bag classic that will stand the rest of time luxury fashion wise, and be even more unpractical than the Chanel flap. With the pricing of most luxury goods these days making them more unaffordable than before, a lot of people are trying to save for classic items they can use for decades and share with their children. Unfortunately, the way we judge whether a bag will stick around in the future is to look through the past and pick out the bags that people still wear decades on right now. These designs might not fit all modern lifestyles, but might work for enough people to keep them going. For the Chanel flap it’s probably a combination of strength of the brand, the structure of the double layered flap bag (so you see lots of vintage ones that still looks pretty decent), inoffensive/not OTT external design that helped it stay relevant. For the Birkin… it’s become a classic bag for ladies who lunch… they probably don’t have to commute and walk long distances so carrying a heavier hand held tote from car (preferably dropped off at the entrance by driver) to shop, and car to home is probably no big deal.

I agree! I don't have this classic bag instead get the vintage single flap jumbo one with the big CC turn lock in 24k gold! Quality is great and much more unique. Also the double flap is annoying.
@@KWSHOPS if you can find a vintage jumbo in caviar, it holds up quite well. I only know as that’s what I ended up buying in the end as it aged better than the lambskin version.
well, to be fair, none of your lip products are conventional lipsticks 😆 i've come to be at peace that the Chanel Classic Flap is something i will love from afar. i love the aesthetics but i also recognize that it may not be the most practical of designs. and i'm with you, i just don't find it worth it at this point.

I was never into Chanel bags (simply because they don't fit my budget of what I am willing to spend on a luxe bag, but I can admire them from afar!). A while ago, I saw a medium classic flap for the first time in person and was very surprised of how small the capacity was! I can agree with you in all the points you mention...this bag is kind of overhyped and also became a bit boring to me seeing it over and over again just in different colors on social media. The bag works for me technically as a cross body but I just really happen to not prefer that length ! But you should try to use your bag if it’s just sitting collecting dust!
I agree unfortunately. I have one in my collection that I purchased new in 2015. It is still unused, with tags, in my closet. Every time I try to wear it, something makes me put it back and grab something else. Not to mention it's soooo small, yet super bulky! Can't fit anything in there.
I had the same thoughts too and thought I was the only one! Thank God someone else agrees! I wish Chanel would change the functionality of this beautiful bag so that there was a large pocket on the back to fit any phone. I wish they got rid of the zip pocket for the love letter. It just leaves an indent on the inner flap and is not a functional pocket. I wish they would make it without the double flap and without the compartments inside. I've seen so many reviews and I've never seen anyone use those inner pockets. Most people just use SLGs or fit things around them eg. lipstick because like you say and I have found that too that lipsticks don't fit properly in the compartment that it was meant for. Lastly I wish they wouldn't increase the price for a bag that needs to be more functional - not just look aesthetically pleasing (if in good condition). Let's not get started on the chain length. Obviously people want to buy it like you did but Chanel needs to realise that they can lose customers due to sticking to tradition instead of being aware of what really works for people nowadays. If you're spending that kind of money, you really shouldn't be feeling disappointed at all. Xxx

I think about this a lot. In 2009 I was just starting college so I had no real idea of money especially re: designer- weren’t they like $1800 back then? How much did that “feel” like compared to what they cost now? Does that question make sense
@@KWSHOPS I thought it was a lot of money then!was just saying to my mom it was under £2000 around the £1800,it isn’t the most practical at all if I’m honest but would never part with it!i have a few designer pieces including the GST which also I find a bit difficult to wear…for me these pieces are for when you your not doing much just wanting to ‘look pretty’ definitely not a running around doing errands bag,saying that the WOC I find easy,almost a ‘throw on’ and go bag if you need to carry very few items…my faves will always be the Tom Ford Jennifer,I have that in the mini and large versions so easy to wear, so cute yet I find to look like an understated classic.x
If I was going to get a Chanel I'd get a Reissue. It's a little more subtle with the lack of logo and it gives me a more casual vibe vs the Classic Flap.

I also have the coco handle and it's way more practical than the classic flap 😂 it's structured so I can't fit too much but I can wear it cross body which I love and I love taking the strap off too so it can be a cute top handle moment. It's a great "day to night" bag too. It was much cheaper 😂
Before I got into lux bags yeah these were on my wish list of must-haves🙄😪, double flaps&Birkins as ultimate SMH. But then I chose LV as a start bec I do love the canvas print and hey within my budget YAY! Then I started embarking on getting a Chanel but thank goodness I watch a lot of reviews and I really ask myself, what.. really.. is.. my lifestyle?? Does this bag will really work for me?? Thank God the FOMO went away. I'm just a simple housewife with a simple lifestyle but would love to carry some lux bags. I find joy using my simple and hardy Speedy B's 25s and 30s and a Neverfull. I have an Alma, croisette,some small pochettes but I realized they're too small so I'm gonna let them go and get a med size one. I'm happy watching diff reviews of any bags bec I love them but now I know what works for me. I don't lust after these glorified bags anymore but yeah it was quite a struggle. I bought mine secondhand for an incredible price quite a few years ago and I don’t carry it as often as my vanity case, mini (square), or vintage full flap WOC (shoulder). I can’t bring it to work because I don’t want my managers to think I don’t need a raise lol.

Rather than saying its poorly designed, I'd personally argue that its design is a bit outdated. This bag first came out in the 1950s, people in 2022 are caring way different items with them. I guess this bag might need a bit of an evolved design!
I agree with your verbiage, but I will say that I think the design is functional and should stay the same. CHANEL offers so many different kinds of bags that are classic and beautiful as well that can likely provide a buyer’s desired functionality.
You’re right. It definitely is no longer functional. In 1955 they didn’t even have credit cards, so card holders weren’t even a thing 🤪

CHANEL classic flap is my favorite bag of all times 😢. I love the size of the medium and the fact that it is a classic. It fits everything I need and still looks sleek. However, I absolutely understand your perspective on unpopular opinions on classics. I feel the same way about the Birkin. I have coveted that bag since I was in my teens. When I finally purchased one it was like a complete let down. Once I actually had it in my position the first thing I said was , “It’s just a tote!” I ended up selling it 😆
The most important thing is that whatever bag you have in your collection you have to love it. I ended up not loving the medium you ended up not loving your Birkin. It is super disappointing though 😕
You know I agree with all of this! It's frustrating to me that so many people feel the need to have one of these bags because they're classic when, in reality, they do not work for a lot of people. I totally get that it would work well for some but it is definitely not my favorite design/functionality for me.

I purchased my Chanel M/L Single Classic Flap at the boutique on 57th St. in 2008. The bag was 1/4 of the price it is today (minus the double flap option). There is no way I would purchase one today. I am satisfied with the one I have. 😉

I have always wanted a CHANEL medium classic flap but about a year ago, I purchased the Karl Lagerfeld leather shoulder bag in the color red from Dillard’s which is very similar to the classic flap, and I really love that bag. I only spent about $200 on it and after owning it for a year, I realize that while I love the look of it, I couldn’t imagine myself spending $9k on the real thing. It is a classic for sure and I love the look of it but would much rather have the cheaper alternative. And like you said, you really can’t fit that much inside of it either. Plus I like that it’s from KL as he was once the creative director at CHANEL. Thank you for sharing. ❤️
A more affordable alternative is definitely a better option. I'd be a lot more willing to sacrifice on functionality if these bags weren't so crazy expensive!!
I also have a Karl Lagerfeld tweed bag that I bought from TJMaxx for $69. It looks just like the Reissue. It is beautiful and I love it as much as my Chanel bags.

I have a medium classic flap, but my $800 speedy is still my favourite by a far! I never use my classic flap due to it not being very practical. My speedy is so practical and I love using it so much.

I did want a classic flap for a long time. Recently, after I purchased the Karl Lagerfeld Agyness I have changed my tune. The classic flap is not 100% off the list but my desire for it has been reduced. The style and functionality of the classic flap is something that I’ve realized is not for me.
For that price- I need perfection. And it just does not give that at all!!
I've only just discovered your channel, and THANK YOU for exposing the shortcomings of this bag! You're right in every aspect. I much prefer the Moscow totes and some other tote designs. Not so fussy and definitely more functional. I had a Boy bag, and it was pretty useless. It held my phone, a thin "card wallet," a lip gloss, and my keys. No room for glasses, sunglasses, gum, etc. Anything more than that put it out of shape, so I sold it. I really think many of these bags are meant for women who have nothing more than "phone, wallet, keys."
CHANEL classic flap bags are for people who appreciate the “why” the bag was designed the way that it is. The metallic is not a good look for the classic. In a year the average person can spend 10,000 on Amazon and fast food/dining (bad habits)
If they leave those things alone a Chanel bag is definitely something they could afford if they decided to.

Honestly I have more fun with the older stuff anyway. At work I handle a lot of the bags that are 5000, 7000, sometimes 20,000 and more but outside of that being way above my budget it becomes less interesting hard to explain

The CF used to be on my wishlist but I removed it a few price increases ago. I have pretty much moved on. I still think it is a beautiful bag but it doesn’t fit my lifestyle. I wouldn’t feel comfortable carrying such an expensive bag on public transportation and I believe it will continue to increase in price past 10k in the future. Thank you for sharing your perspective. I know what you mean I lived in New York for several years before I carried any luxury bags at all. For public transport like the subway it’s best to carry things that are hard wearing and water repellent, heaven for bid there’s a sudden stop 🫣

Great video. I agree with everything you said. You’re totally on the money about the size and the useless pockets. But I still enjoy these bags. It carries everything I need for non-work outings and for reasons that are hyper specific to me, I like how it opens and how it hangs. I even wear mine crossbody (I know, unpopular position). It’s all so individual.
It definitely works on me as a Crossbody as well I just don’t happen to prefer it. And bag last as you know is what it’s all about ❤️❤️
I have the Chanel Small Classic Flap and I love it! I'm petite though so it fits perfectly as a crossbody AND a shoulder bag.
The Chanel classic flaps are my absolute dream bags! However, we are all entitled to our opinions. Also, something that works for some, may not work for others.

The single flap for me is definitely a little bit better but the overall design and construction of the bag doesn't do it for me. I have spent YEARS viewing this bag on the pedestal and now that I'm in such close proximity to them all the time, they fall short of the ideal.

I bought my 1st M/L classic flap new in 2005 for $1697 straight out the door...tax included. I can't see ever buying another one new at the current prices. It's robbery at this point. It's the exact same bag it was in 2005 and before that. Nothing new.

I lucked out about 4 years ago with the purchase of a beige Chanel double flap for $450. Yes, it has been authenticated and it is authentic. The bag was previously owned by a show host from Peru. I purchased also from her an Hermes Oran sandals for $150.

I think the Dior Caro bag is a more practical bag with a similar look! I've been eyeing the padded medium Caro ($4,600 I believe) ever since I saw Jisoo from BlackPink wearing it haha.. The back actually has a functional slip to put your phone and the chain is removable so you can use it as a clutch or add a different chain to give it a new look.
Yes. I agree with you. I love the Caro medium. I'm hoping to add that bag into my collection this year. My first Dior bag. Or I'm debating on a Lady Dior. We shall see. Both are on my wishlist. Also the classic flap medium is also on my wishlist atm but I doubt I would buy it new from the boutique because it's so expensive now. I might buy it preloved.
Omg! You are so correct! There are sooo many things that do nothing and are not usable on this bag. I have the jumbo so even tho it holds a ton it is verrry heavy and you can’t wear it cross body unless you are 7 feet tall. Having said all of that I still am glad I have it but I will not add any more classic flaps to my collection. One is enough for me. I much more appreciate and love seasonal vintage Chanel.

It doesn’t have the second flap, and is one open space and is a fraction of the price of a CP, but it cannot be used as a shoulder bag, just crossbody. Just a thought, it might be a better choice for you!
THANK YOU 👏👏 for this honest review of why the Classic Chanel Double Flap is not worth the price & why you don't HAVE to have one in your collection just because so many people say you do & it's a "classic"! All your points were spot on especially the functionality of it you can fit a purse, keys, phone & mini water bottle in it then it's full, the love notes zip part is just useless, it doesn't sit right on my body & I find the style of it boring. Not to mention the fact that the insane price tag makes you scared to use it incase anything spills in it, lipstick gets on the inside or closing the clutch lock damages the shape! I was BEYOND BLESSED to win two brand new medium Classic Chanel double flap black lambskin with gold hardware handbags in December 2020 but as for them holding their resale that's not true unless you find a specialist (even then they wanted half the selling price ) as when I tried to sell one of them the offers were appallingly low!! I ended up having to sell it for only £2600 less than half the price...one of the BIGGEST REGRETS in my life it still breaks my heart 💔😭!! The one I still own I literally have had it out the box & worn only 4 times so yes DON'T WASTE YOUR ££

I had a medium CF flap and I found it way too small. I sold it in favor of the Maxi CF. That size is much more my speed.
I much prefer the maxi. But for me, in carrying a bag that large, I would want to carry my laptop, and it's not quite that big

I have actually been wanting a single flap over a double flap. Structure is important but it also needs to be able to fit my stuff. This video has actually made me feel better about looking at other flap bags due to my budget. I’ve seen some really cool seasonal flaps, that are still expensive but more “affordable” for me.
I love flap bags! And while the medium didn't work out for I did find a less expensive seasonal alternative. Trust me , there are THOUSANDS out there. They're cool, they're different, a lot of them take a lot of the signature design features, but they're more rare and less $$

You had some very good points. Especially that the bag needs to evolve with some of the more useless features. One point about the classic flap I would like to make , is the longevity of the bag. I see classic flaps that are 40 years old that look fantastic, almost better than new with a gorgeous patina. But if you look at a big old slouchy Birkin no thank you. I am a shoulder bag girl and I love it. I also am very tall so all the strap lengths are just fine thank you.
A lot of the time the older Birkins in Togo leather are the slouchy ones if you find them in Epsom they tend to hold their structure a bit more however I think we know my opinion on the Birkin as far as its future in my collection. Very unlikely
Great video. With price increases Chanel is out of my reach along with some of the cons it has definitely makes me appreciate steering clear. I would definitely love your thoughts on Salvatore Ferragamo. I don't hear much talk about the brand in the luxury world. I just ordered two bags pre-loved and the quality seems pretty amazing and the price point is great also.

I would only buy this Classic Chanel bag preloved and I was lucky enough to get one with 24 carat gold plating for £2400 pounds last year in very very good condition. I think I will be sick if I spend over £3000 on one bag!!!
The taupe one was $3500 and it made my stomach turn a little bit. I love it, but it will be a WHILE before I spend that much again. Today I’m carrying a Brandon Blackwood bag I bought for $150.

I found out that I don’t like the medium size on me while trying it in the boutique but I love my small classic flap. I just wished I bought it years ago when the price tag was better. Now even if it’s one of my favorite in my collection, I’m not sure I will ever buy an other one in a different color since it’s so expensive.
I have to acknowledge I’m biased in favor of big bags! So I chose the medium bc it’s that much bigger (I’m also above avg height and long-limbed!!) So I scrapped the small from the roster- HOWEVER- they are fully interchangeable, and I think there doesn’t need to be both 🤷🏽♀️

Agree!!! I find them difficult to use and as you said they don't hold much considering their size. I had the chain lengthened which helps but I think they need to get rid of the inside flap and have even thought of cutting it off.

Thank you so much for bringing all these points, especially the 1st and 2nd ones. I came to the same conclusion and cannot justify the price point with or without price increases. I would stick to Hermes at the very least because the luxury lies on the craftsmanship. I own 1 medium classic flap that I will happily get rid of to finance my next Hermes quota bag.
Well said - I finally got rid of my medium large as it was driving me nuts esp the strap drop was just too short esp doubled up and the capacity is so small for the size !! I’ve always felt this bag is over rated !! I prefer the reissue more but then I bought mine many years ago !!
Also the reissue in the 226 size is *perfection* ! I wish they made a classic in that size. It makes more sense

I sold my medium CF early this year. It is overhyped. Eveyone has one too. Never ever want another classic flap. Still have 2 minis and i love those.

I have 3 Chanel flap bags that I purchased preloved from Fashionphile a few years ago but they are single flap which I prefer because the capacity is better. I have the Maxi in a single flap. It fits everything but I don't reach for it often. Thankfully, I bought it in excellent condition for $3995 before they started adding taxes. They are great bags but so are my Coach Parker bags, my Kate Spade Natalia bag, and my Karl Lagerfeld tweed Agyness bag.. These brands have a full back pocket that is great for your phone. I would never put a lipstick loose in my purse for fear it may leak or open and ruin the inside of the bag so that feature makes no sense to me.There are so many handbags that are quite beautiful that are similar to the Chanel flap bag that are designed better at a much more affordable price.
that is another great point about lipstick. They are not nearly secure enough for me to want to consider putting inside of my bags. For several reasons lipgloss is a better option because at bare minimum they have a screw cap.
The color of yours is especially unique and beautiful…I’ve always wondered if I’d like the design of the flap style myself. It’s gorgeous but I’d be scared it’s not functional too!! I love my Chanel 19 bag, it's so much more space and comfortable to wear compared to the classic flap bags ☺️💓
The 19 is a bit too slouchy for my liking, but the interior is much more simple and is able to hold SO MUCH MORE! Def better on that front

I appreciate your review of the Chanel classic flap. Very few people are brave enough to be honest about it. I own a few Chanel bags, but the classic flap is a little boring for me and one I will never buy, even if the prices were not going up. I like bags with some extra character and I don’t see this in the classic flap. I think it has been hyped up for years. Some People looked at it as a status thing. The bag you have looks a little delicate and might not wear well.

I have two classic flaps bought in 2018 and 2019, I don’t use them much at all, compared to a pre-pre-loved Chanel Blizzard flap with a zip open top (it’s a fun bag, look it up!) from 2010. The Blizzard is practical, and a lot of Chanel’s seasonal bags are far more practical for peoples lifestyle today. But the main features of the classic flap dates from 1955 and people back then carried different things.
People buy classic flaps for the staying power (“investment value”) in that it will always be considered stylish/luxurious, the same way the Birkin/Kelly is. The Kelly is okay functionality wise now that it has a shoulder strap but the Birkin is the most unpractical bag 😂 it’s meant to be casual but generally comes in firstly large sizes, it’s a tote, but it’s hand carry only. The 25cm Birkin can fit a decent amount but it’s handled can’t even fit onto most people’s elbows so it’s very seriously hand/wrist carry. Now that’s a timeless bag classic that will stand the rest of time luxury fashion wise, and be even more unpractical than the Chanel flap.
With the pricing of most luxury goods these days making them more unaffordable than before, a lot of people are trying to save for classic items they can use for decades and share with their children. Unfortunately, the way we judge whether a bag will stick around in the future is to look through the past and pick out the bags that people still wear decades on right now. These designs might not fit all modern lifestyles, but might work for enough people to keep them going. For the Chanel flap it’s probably a combination of strength of the brand, the structure of the double layered flap bag (so you see lots of vintage ones that still looks pretty decent), inoffensive/not OTT external design that helped it stay relevant. For the Birkin… it’s become a classic bag for ladies who lunch… they probably don’t have to commute and walk long distances so carrying a heavier hand held tote from car (preferably dropped off at the entrance by driver) to shop, and car to home is probably no big deal.

I agree! I don't have this classic bag instead get the vintage single flap jumbo one with the big CC turn lock in 24k gold! Quality is great and much more unique. Also the double flap is annoying.
Vintage is always a better bet! I do worry sometimes about condition and age.
@@KWSHOPS if you can find a vintage jumbo in caviar, it holds up quite well. I only know as that’s what I ended up buying in the end as it aged better than the lambskin version.
well, to be fair, none of your lip products are conventional lipsticks 😆 i've come to be at peace that the Chanel Classic Flap is something i will love from afar. i love the aesthetics but i also recognize that it may not be the most practical of designs. and i'm with you, i just don't find it worth it at this point.

I was never into Chanel bags (simply because they don't fit my budget of what I am willing to spend on a luxe bag, but I can admire them from afar!). A while ago, I saw a medium classic flap for the first time in person and was very surprised of how small the capacity was! I can agree with you in all the points you mention...this bag is kind of overhyped and also became a bit boring to me seeing it over and over again just in different colors on social media. Your replacement bag is a stunner tho!!

Totally agree. It’s not versatile and I have an A size chest and the strap is still too short to crossbody…lol I bought a preloved jumbo double flap years ago and it just sits in my closet. I won’t sell it because the price is soooo high now I would never purchase 🤷🏽♀️
The bag works for me technically as a cross body but I just really happen to not prefer that length ! But you should try to use your bag if it’s just sitting collecting dust!

I agree unfortunately. I have one in my collection that I purchased new in 2015. It is still unused, with tags, in my closet. Every time I try to wear it, something makes me put it back and grab something else. Not to mention it's soooo small, yet super bulky! Can't fit anything in there.

I had the same thoughts too and thought I was the only one! Thank God someone else agrees! I wish Chanel would change the functionality of this beautiful bag so that there was a large pocket on the back to fit any phone. I wish they got rid of the zip pocket for the love letter. It just leaves an indent on the inner flap and is not a functional pocket. I wish they would make it without the double flap and without the compartments inside. I've seen so many reviews and I've never seen anyone use those inner pockets. Most people just use SLGs or fit things around them eg. lipstick because like you say and I have found that too that lipsticks don't fit properly in the compartment that it was meant for. Lastly I wish they wouldn't increase the price for a bag that needs to be more functional - not just look aesthetically pleasing (if in good condition). Let's not get started on the chain length. Obviously people want to buy it like you did but Chanel needs to realise that they can lose customers due to sticking to tradition instead of being aware of what really works for people nowadays. If you're spending that kind of money, you really shouldn't be feeling disappointed at all. Xxx

I think about this a lot. In 2009 I was just starting college so I had no real idea of money especially re: designer- weren’t they like $1800 back then? How much did that “feel” like compared to what they cost now? Does that question make sense
@@KWSHOPS I thought it was a lot of money then!was just saying to my mom it was under £2000 around the £1800,it isn’t the most practical at all if I’m honest but would never part with it!i have a few designer pieces including the GST which also I find a bit difficult to wear…for me these pieces are for when you your not doing much just wanting to ‘look pretty’ definitely not a running around doing errands bag,saying that the WOC I find easy,almost a ‘throw on’ and go bag if you need to carry very few items…my faves will always be the Tom Ford Jennifer,I have that in the mini and large versions so easy to wear, so cute yet I find to look like an understated classic.x

If I was going to get a Chanel I'd get a Reissue. It's a little more subtle with the lack of logo and it gives me a more casual vibe vs the Classic Flap.
If you do, BUY PRELOVED! there are great deals out there when they don’t have the CC on them

Ah! I wish I had seen this before I bought a classic medium at the end of last year. I don't love this bag either for the exact same reasons that you had. It is beautiful, but yeah, not worth it for me.

I also have the coco handle and it's way more practical than the classic flap 😂 it's structured so I can't fit too much but I can wear it cross body which I love and I love taking the strap off too so it can be a cute top handle moment. It's a great "day to night" bag too. It was much cheaper 😂

Before I got into lux bags yeah these were on my wish list of must-haves🙄😪, double flaps&Birkins as ultimate SMH. But then I chose LV as a start bec I do love the canvas print and hey within my budget YAY! Then I started embarking on getting a Chanel but thank goodness I watch a lot of reviews and I really ask myself, what.. really.. is.. my lifestyle?? Does this bag will really work for me?? Thank God the FOMO went away. I'm just a simple housewife with a simple lifestyle but would love to carry some lux bags. I find joy using my simple and hardy Speedy B's 25s and 30s and a Neverfull. I have an Alma, croisette,some small pochettes but I realized they're too small so I'm gonna let them go and get a med size one. I'm happy watching diff reviews of any bags bec I love them but now I know what works for me. I don't lust after these glorified bags anymore but yeah it was quite a struggle.
