"Beja Sons" ("بجاوييت ار") by Mohammad al-Badri | English Translation

“Beja Sons” (“بجاوييت ار”) is a song written and composed by Arka Saber and performed by Beja singer Mohammad al-Badri. The poem was written as a reaction to the East Sudanese Peace Agreement of 2006, which concluded the East Sudanese Uprising that Arka Saber fought in; subsequently, the poem emphasizes respect for revolutionaries and the power of Beja rebels, while still calling on unity and respect for the peace agreement (hence the line “do not diminish or underestimate what was achieved,” a message to detractors of the ESPA).
We’ve picked al-Badri’s version of this song not only because he’s a great singer, but also to convey to some extent Arka Saber’s influence on other Beja singers; al-Badri is simply one of many who covered Arka’s songs, clear evidence of his popularity among Beja audiences.

وأرا ريو ايشوك أوبوي رهسا قيقسين يا بجاي دهاي اليانا كتفاي تتكتك تيمشبيبنيك
الشباب الذين يضحو بحيتاهم ودمهم مافي شئ غالي للبجا اذا اتضامنا
The youth sacrifice their lives and blood; no task is too great for the Beja if we unite
امكي باسقريبنا ايفال باشيشيليكنا قال ميكريت تأموررموينا هيدا اودهاي تكيتو
لا تستهينو ولا تقللو من فأل ما قمنا به المطلوب منكم الاتحاد
Do not diminish or underestimate what was achieved, unity is required of you*
بجاوييت ار با أّمني سُوقا تيسلا بافاديق وهاشون اقبريهي دهاي وري هوي بادقاق ناتي دبا كندهوك اون اشرقيب
ابناء البجا لما لا تأمنوهم وتستهترو بيهم شوفو حدود بلدكم قبل لا تدخلو القبور مازلنا البقية سوف نضحي ولن نرضى باي شئ في الشرق
When you distrust and disagree with the young Beja who guard and die for the borders, [realize] the rest will follow them, sacrifice, and not settle [for less] in East Sudan
سقيت مادا تولهي بيرهيبنيك سسومرتيت اتلو دمامامييك بجاي اوجيش دولة اشاراتاو
مستعدين لابعد من ذلك: فقط في انتظار موسم الامطار لكن الجيش البجاوي اشارة لانتزاع حريتنا
We are ready to go even further; all we’re waiting for is the season; the Beja army is a symbol of our fight for freedom
بجاي اوذلال أكرات قضيايتو أمريناتيت وحقون تريمتيت هيدا قتيت .. نيرب تتريبتون ...اون اشرقيب
اذلال البجا الذين ينادون من أجل قضيتهم ذنب لا تغتفر: المفترض نوحد صفوفنا ونرفض من يرفضنا
The humiliation of the Beja who advocate for their cause is an unforgivable travesty; we must unite, and reject those who reject us
وهاشون وعينهون اوطن سأيامينهون و أيون رهابيت اقريمي رنكيهون او اشرقيب
بلدنا تنادينا ووطنا يتوقعنا ولكن عدونا شاف قوتنا ولابد ان يهاب مننا في الشرق
Our land calls us and our country expects us, our enemy has seen our strength and must respect us in East Sudan
