I’m really wanting to dive into this tutorial for my next armor build, but I don’t have a band saw...would this be terribly hard to do without one?

      Hi Ares!
Well, the only tricky part would be the body. With the type of box cutter I use in the video you could probably pull it off. But it’s very thick. You might think about making the body a tiny bit thinner and then you would have no problem using a box cutter and then dremeling the edges smooth from any knife marks.

Hello! I am currently working on this crossbow, bought the pattern from your Etsy shop. I am at the point where I need to make the taper cut along top (starting at minute 4:22) and I didn't see in pattern how I should size that. I can assume from the video that we leave the back at it's widest, but what is the front tip measurement? Thank you so much in advance and for teaching us how to make such a cool prop!

      Hey Cassie!
      Too cool!
In the scene you mention, the end I send through the band saw first is 1 1/2" wide and the other end ( the narrow end ) is about 5/8". I think that is the part you’re asking about?
Again, Wow! Cool, thanks you so much for watching - and grabbing a template to crush it!
I assume you have, but in case you haven’t we have a bunch of cool builds starting to add up on the channel - here’s the link to the home page in case you haven’t seen them:

Just check under VIDEOS at the upper left to see a complete list. We have some other ancient ones in there. And a BUNCH of builds are already done and waiting to upload - as well as a TON in process behind those! LOVING IT!

@@BlackSheepProps Yesss thank you so much! That's exactly what I needed, and if I missed you saying that in the video I apologise. I'll definitely be watching all 3 a few more times along this journey. This project inspired me to learn how to band saw and it's been so fun! I am subscribed and will certainly be using your patterns/vids in future, so dang thorough! Do you have an Instagram that I can tag when sharing my progress/finished photos?

Cool! Glad I could help. Yes, LOVE the band saw! I would love to see the finished photo too! But I’m off the grid - not on any social media. But other folks have posted cool photos of finished builds at the ETSY site where they got the template so you could probably do it there.
      Have fun!

Your finished crossbow looks really good. I made one for a show a couple of weeks ago, and I will say that your build looks better.
Two little things, and these do not take away from your build. Due to the force involved when firing a crossbow, the Bolt or Quarrel tended to be much thicker than an arrow and would have two flights made from leather or timber instead of feathers. The other thing is that crossbows need an arch or something on the front of the stock to make sure that the bolt did not somersault when firing.
These two things are real world things and do not take away from how good your build looks - most people would not even notice. I only mention them so that next time you build a crossbow, you can make your build even better.

That and the string shouldn't be straight across if the bow is in the firing position
