    I literally seen Tons of video , everyone talks about grow room n how to pick when to pick n all dat nonsense , but if your inoculation is not proper you won't even having any fruiting stage , this video helps alot, thank bro , appreciated big time !!!

    Love your vids man! Just started inoculating my own bulk substrate bags a couple weeks ago. I see that some of my first batch only has mycelium growing in the top half, but I think it may have been due to shabby shaking technique. When do you think I should give up on them?
    Also, can you talk a little more about what different types of contamination look like (maybe a whole vid)? I see yellowish metabolites when the mycelium is growing, but I think that's pretty normal. So far I know the easy (colorful) contaminants, but would love to learn more about the tell-tale signs of contam in spawn or substrate.
    Keep making these videos, your content is amazing!

    your blocks look so uniform and nice compared to mine. i have trouble with sealing air in when im sealing my bags for shaking. now sure how to go about trapping air in the correct way. also not sure how to shape the bag correctly after shaking it to make it a nice looking block like yours

    Mine won’t colonize the bottom 25 percent. Been 22 days, should I just fruit it? Afraid it my contaminate.

      Probably too wet, you can try to fruit in the upper portion or flip it upside-down gravity displaces the excess moisture but that could drown the healthy mycelium

    Fresh from the Farm Fungi LLC where would I find plastic tops that are pp4 or pp5 temp resistant for mason jars? I got some mushroom bags and they melted too, where do i get high temp resistant spawn bags?

      unicorn bags are what we use - and usually any ball jar lid is rated for canning/pressure cooking and will work well 👍

      @@FreshfromtheFarmFungi Are you going LC to bulk substrate at all?

    • @FreshfromtheFarmFungi
      @FreshfromtheFarmFungi  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      john smith We have done Lc to bulk substrates in the past with success but the reason we don’t implement that method regularly is because of space issues. It’s much faster to do sawdust/grain spawn to bulk and takes up much less room then having 2-3x as many bulk bags incubating from LC inoculations - MUSHLOVE

    do you think the contam was from undercooking the spawn? how long do you pc spawn?

    • @FreshfromtheFarmFungi
      @FreshfromtheFarmFungi  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Joe Choi Our sterilization cycle is for 90 minutes at 250F/15psi it’s hard to say where the contamination occurred there were 2 bags/jars out of 36 with what appeared to be yeast/bacteria and 1 jar out of 8 that had penicillium. I think one of the bags was punctured near the filter. Our process usually runs around 4-7% contamination rate especially this time of year

      @@FreshfromtheFarmFungi that may be a downside to a vertical flow hood since it is blowing air downward pushing contams into your bags? I've never had contam in my spawn with a horizontal flow system. "as I knock on wood" don't want to jinx myself, LOL

    • @FreshfromtheFarmFungi
      @FreshfromtheFarmFungi  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Joe Choi There are pros and cons to both, I chose comfort and ergonomics over functionality in this case since I spend a lot of time working in the hood. I could add some hepa filters in the ceiling, positive pressure airlocks, new paint, tyvek sleeves etc. to work out the kinks of the lab but there are many other priorities in running a new business 👍🏻 I have worked in full clean rooms most of my career and have very high standards for cleanliness that have yet to be met! John Robinson I haven’t seen a significant difference. Cordyceps must colonize in the dark because of their nature but for oysters and other saprophytic hardwood species I have never had issues with exposure to light

      Tim Helmick Hey thanks for watching! I recommend any Paul Stamets’ literature (how to grow gourmet and medicinal mushrooms, the mushroom cultivar, mycelium running) Tradd Cotter’s book on cultivating organic gourmet mushrooms, and Peter McCoy’s Radical Mycology. These are all staples to the world of mycology. I also really enjoyed Fantastic Fungi the movie it gives all those books a great perspective : )
