Steven has been my favorite musician for about 13 years now, last year I connected with Taylor’s music and now I love her too ❤ this cover is so gorgeous!
Never heard the original, but this seems very similar to what you've been writing and singing recently. Really enjoyed this actually and I'll have to check out the original and the album it came from. See you in Glasgow next year, and cheers for the great videos during lockdown! :)
Porcupine Tree fan here - the Taylor Swift album it's off is her best yet - she's always struck me as very heartfelt in her songwriting and that really comes across in her vocals on the original. This was a cool surprise. I'd like to hear TS covering Lazarus!
OMG! I can't believe this happened. You are my favorite musician and Taylor Swift is my favorite singer. This is so precious and the lyrics are the best. I love both.
My husband showed me this, I've seen y'all live, but I'm a bit more taylor myself... you ROCK this. It's a truly great version of it and a really great balanced cover song.
That's true, her voice is great. That's the reason why she won a casting show. On the other hand, I can't emotionally connect to the parts of the songs on "Hand. Cannot. Erase" or "To the Bone" she is singing. I'm just not a fan of technically perfect voices. Steven doesn't seem to be the best singer in the world, but you can always hear that he truly feels the lyrics he is writing. When you compare the two versions of one of my favourite songs, "Don't Hate Me", it becomes obvious that Ninet Tayeb is technically a (much) better singer than Steven. Nevertheless, I prefer the old version of the song on "Stupid Dream" because Steven's voice in this song sounds much more "honest" to me.
I'm only vaguely familiar with her music so if it hadn't been stated that this is a cover I would have happily accepted that this as a SW original. Very enjoyable.
The album that this came off is this year's _Folklore_ and it's quite good. I'm usually not a Taylor Swift fan, either her early bubblegum country stuff or her mainstream pop stuff, but this new album is something else, and quite good.
Great cover, I'm so glad that someone from the prog fraternity has recognised how good Taylor Swift is, and how good the folklore album is. It will be a much better world if we can all see outside of our own bubbles and recognise achievements beyond our own noses. You've kicked off 2021 in great style with this cover and my appreciation for everything you do has only increased.
Interesting! Folklore and Evermore are great albums that I recently discovered via her songs with Justin Vernon. Really cool that Aaron Dessner from the national collaborated on these albums with her. Looking forward to the future bites!
Don't buy her older stuff rn(if U're planning to) U can buy Fearless (Taylor's version), lover, folklore and evermore. 🤗🤗 She gave Pennsylvania a shoutout on "seven"
Haven't heard the original version. However, this melody sounds just fantastic in Steven's vocal tones and character.... His champion qualities imprinted, beautiful cover... Now I'll listen to Taylor Swift one as well Great fun this one Steven Thx & Rgds
This is wonderful! Though prog is a significant segment of my musical diet (and though I had never bought a Taylor Swift record previously), the “folklore” record got me through the last half of 2020. It was exactly what my soul needed. And now I see that Steven not only appreciated it, but also made this cover....so, so cool.
To everyone who just knows Taylor Swift for her radio hits, the two albums she released this year are different. Sure, they're still poppy, but they're much more creative and inspired than what you hear on the radio. The style is actually often very similar to what Steven has been into, which is why this cover makes total sense.
Respectfully disagree, suffered through her both new albums and didn't find anything noteworthy. This very song doesn't have even a passable melody! Steven disappoints me once again. Coming down from covering ABBA's perfect The Day Before You Came to this generic bland song?!🤦
@@vladilenasmusiccollection9309 Respectfully disagree. Great melody is great melody no matter if you are a metalhead, jazzist, musical omnivore, whatever. This song is a disaster.
I gave a try now to criticallly acclaimed Folklore number one record of the year for a couple of minutes but then I remebered there is a new Lucinda Williams one I didnt have the time to spin so I am listening now to her whiskey soaked vocal cords because get f* real .
I LOVE your guts Mr Wilson!! All these months now, we have all these people moaning about everything, about how pop you have become recently, blah blah blah. And you throw a Taylor Swift cover in their faces!! Absolutely f***ing brilliant!!!!!
I figured Steven had good tastes, but "Folklore"? Damn...and yet it's not possible for me to admire and appreciate his artistry anymore :-P "Cardigan" is one of the greatest songs I've ever heard come from a "traditional pop" artist in my lifetime.
I never heard Taylor Swift, but your cover sounds great. I might absorb the lyrics. Thank you Steven for all TFB Sessions songs. All were so marvelous.
I know you don't read comments, but just in case you stumble upon this. Thanks Steven for these. It really has helped make this year less shitty! I hope these continue in 2021! Can't wait for my "Deluxe Edition Box Set" of The Future Bites to arrive. Stay safe and hope you and your family have a Happy New Years.
Dang, and I had written off most modern pop music. This is brilliant writing, and now I absolutely love the original version. Her voice is fucking golden. Thanks, as always! (Also more obscure Rush covers please! Neil Peart would be proud! You may be the only person to ever cover Twilight Zone.)
I wouldn't have ever expected this at all. But, it's absolutely brilliant. I hope Taylor herself actually sees this because I reckon she would love it.
I'm by no means a snobby basement dweller prog head and actually I hate prog, I'm more of a post-punk lover so I had some pop sensibilities. But Taylor Swift?? I'd expect if SW had chosen the pop path it would be along the lines of good quality scene-pushing pop like Garbage. This was a huge frustration. And not because the music itself is bad. It is because the pop scene is made of sold-out souls, Swift included.
I really like Taylor Swift folklore album. The production and song writing on it is very good. It gives me the Emmylou Harris Wrecking ball vibe. Different but similar to my ears. Must be the reverbs
He's got a BIG pop side IMO he wrote some great radio tracks in PT like Lazarus and Trains, and a lot of Blackfield and Blackfield II is basically just pop rock. :) That's the greatest thing about being a prog rock fan, it encompasses every genre.
Nice job. I also think that this is sorta brilliant. Always been very impressed with Taylor's writing skills. Stevens take on this totally channels her. Some people won't like it but this shows his musicianship knows no bounds. Keep surprising us Steven. I personally like it.
th-cam.com/video/rGuhrCD2XkI/w-d-xo.html You can check King ghost cover, one with guitar solos. Anyone who loved Porcupine Tree would find this version beautiful.
How is this any different from collapse the light into earth, how is your life today? It's one piano progression throughout. Collapse the light into earth has an synthy outro, this has a similar musical addition of the ebow and guitar at the end. In absentia was supposedly his metal album. Will never understand this hate. The only difference is the lyrics aren't depressing. So does everyone want him to always sing depressing lyrics?

I don’t really get “prog purists” - none of the great progressive bands were or are purists themselves. Though I do think this is an odd choice, since it’s a very personal song for Taylor, about the history of her house in Rhode Island and its previous owner Rebekah West Harkness.
Greetings fellow prog rock fans. Both of Taylor Swifts 2020 albums are incredible. Give them a listen and stop being afraid of liking Taylor Swift. It's alright... "Happy New Year" - ABBA
The Last Great American Dynasty - Lyrics (by Aaron Dessner and Taylor Swift)
Rebekah rode up on the afternoon train, it was sunny
Her saltbox house on the coast took her mind off St. Louis
Bill was the heir to the Standard Oil name, and money
And the town said "How did a middle class divorcée do it?"
The wedding was charming, if a little gauche
There's only so far new money goes
They picked out a home and called it "Holiday House"
Their parties were tasteful, if a little loud
The doctor had told him to settle down
It must have been her fault his heart gave out
And they said "There goes the last great American dynasty"
Who knows, if she never showed up what could've been
There goes the maddest woman this town has ever seen
She had a marvelous time ruining everything
Rebekah gave up on the Rhode Island set forever
Flew in all the Bitch Pack friends from the city
Filled the pool with champagne and swam with the big names
And blew through the money on the boys and the ballet
And losing on card game bets with Dalí
And they said "There goes the last great American dynasty"
Who knows, if she never showed up, what could've been
There goes the most shameless woman this town has ever seen
She had a marvelous time ruining everything
They say she was seen on occasion
Pacing the rocks staring out at the midnight sea
And in a feud with her neighbor
She stole his dog and dyed it key lime green
Fifty years is a long time
Holiday House sat quietly on that beach
Free of women with madness
Their men and bad habits, and then it was bought by me
Who knows, if I never showed up what could've been
There goes the loudest woman this town has ever seen
I had a marvelous time ruining everything
I had a marvelous time
Ruining everything
A marvelous time
Ruining everything
A marvelous time
I had a marvelous time

OMG! I can't believe this happened. You are my favorite musician and Taylor Swift is my favorite singer. This is so precious and the lyrics are the best. I love both.
Sounded great.
I am also enjoying everyone pretending this is their first time hearing a Taylor Swift song.
Just teasing...happy new year!
My husband showed me this, I've seen y'all live, but I'm a bit more taylor myself... you ROCK this. It's a truly great version of it and a really great balanced cover song.
I dig it. Let's get Taylor to cover PT's Futile.
:-) I would love to listen to this cover. Her voice would fit Steven's songs much better than Ninet Tayeb's voice.
LOL
@@Dennis_Rieger can't even imagine taylor in place of Ninet... Ninet has something so good in her voice.
I am living for all the music snobs in the comment section realising that Taylor is an amazing songwriter and not just another vapid pop star. Cheers.
The fans are the worst part of Prog music, by far
First Taylor Swift song I've ever heard. Interesting. Guess I'll have to listen to the original now. Guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr 2021! Happy 2021!
All of folklore is a great listen. Genuinely a great album, even if you don't like pop music.
Same here hahaha
@@DeepitMagee That's mostly cause it isn't pop.
I'm only vaguely familiar with her music so if it hadn't been stated that this is a cover I would have happily accepted that this as a SW original. Very enjoyable.
Same here haha
The album that this came off is this year's _Folklore_ and it's quite good. I'm usually not a Taylor Swift fan, either her early bubblegum country stuff or her mainstream pop stuff, but this new album is something else, and quite good.
honestly, the original is way better imo, you might like 'Folklore'!
Please... If you're a SW fan you know right away it's not one of his song. It's pop, just boring and annoying pop
@@kombuchaaentuboca3372 folklore is anything but "boring and annoying pop". I was skeptical at first but it was actually really deep, so...
As a prog rock fan and Swiftie - this makes me so happy!!
Feliz año esteban wilson

Well Steven, you've managed at the very last moment to surprise me yet again this year
This makes me happy
I'd never think i was loving Taylor Swift so much
Great new album!! Thank you Steven!!
🦭
progsnob.exe stopped working (great job anyway!)
It sounds like blackfield so.. it doesn't bother me at all.
No, it doesn't
Interesting! Folklore and Evermore are great albums that I recently discovered via her songs with Justin Vernon. Really cool that Aaron Dessner from the national collaborated on these albums with her. Looking forward to the future bites!
Honestly love TS, a fellow Pennsylvania daughter, but don't own any of her CDs. Ty SW for validating me. HAPPY 2021 and Namaste
Namaste! Love TS & SW too. SW a little more maybe
Don't buy her older stuff rn(if U're planning to)
U can buy Fearless (Taylor's version), lover, folklore and evermore.
🤗🤗
She gave Pennsylvania a shoutout on "seven"
I love this song on a different level for different reasons. Happy New Year Steven and whoever is reading this..
Thank's so much. Have a great New Year, you and yours. Cheers!
LOVE IT! Best crossover ever! Here a swiftie & hardcore fan of Steven who is very happy for this cover :)
Haven't heard the original version. However, this melody sounds just fantastic in Steven's vocal tones and character.... His champion qualities imprinted, beautiful cover... Now I'll listen to Taylor Swift one as well
Great fun this one Steven
Thx & Rgds
This is wonderful! Though prog is a significant segment of my musical diet (and though I had never bought a Taylor Swift record previously), the “folklore” record got me through the last half of 2020. It was exactly what my soul needed. And now I see that Steven not only appreciated it, but also made this cover....so, so cool.
That was fun :)

I hope Taylor sees this! Great cover from this legend.
Cardigan isn't pop, folklore isn't pop at all, except for maybe "the one and gold Rush" Which sounds kinda pop
How about that?!
Happy New Year, Steven (and everyone reading this).
Happy New Year Steven.
Let's hear more songs with you using your Ovation Guitar please. Thank you for your creativity!
A good song is a good song, doesn't matter who wrote it! :) I hadn't heard that one before, liked it a lot!
(nice flourish at the end too!)
I never heard Taylor Swift, but your cover sounds great. I might absorb the lyrics. Thank you Steven for all TFB Sessions songs. All were so marvelous.
Such a pleasant surprise from my favorite musician! Maybe I'll become a Taylor Swift fan?
real recognizes real
I know you don't read comments, but just in case you stumble upon this. Thanks Steven for these. It really has helped make this year less shitty! I hope these continue in 2021! Can't wait for my "Deluxe Edition Box Set" of The Future Bites to arrive. Stay safe and hope you and your family have a Happy New Years.
King Crimson XXXL t-shirt fans don't like this.
Lmao
Applies to all sizes
Superb
HAHAHAHAHA
Amo a King Crimson. Y este cover me parece SENSACIONAL
Wilson is so good that he can make such wonderful song even better in his studio alone. Big congrats!
Guys, fast, Taylor Swift covered Anesthetize in her channel!

@@ОлегГолубкин-к1я this is my favourite song, thanks for sharing!! ❤️
LOL
'Cause baby now Steven and PT got bad blood
. You know it used to be mad love.
I wouldn't have ever expected this at all. But, it's absolutely brilliant. I hope Taylor herself actually sees this because I reckon she would love it.
So these are the 4 chords that made a million?
He won't ever be dried up, a guitar upon his knee, I guess.
Yep. It’s over.
@@konstantinoskominos2747 I think it's just his experimental side gone too far! Oh...how I wish PT returned!
Haha. No, this song has 5 chords. Also isn't 4 Chors That Made A Million about millionaires twice your age who write the music? 😂
A much more faithful rendition than I expected... well... i didn't expect this at all... and i feel opposing emotions
Brilliant Steven, nice use of the Ebow.
I can’t believe I just found this. Amazing.
I really like Taylor Swift folklore album. The production and song writing on it is very good. It gives me the Emmylou Harris Wrecking ball vibe. Different but similar to my ears. Must be the reverbs
A GOOD VOICE OF 2021 I HEARD TILL NOW.
I love the lyrics to this song, Taylor did an amazing job telling the story about her home in rhode island
What a delightful New Year's Eve gift. Always the unexpected from Steven! I love it all!
This made me listen to the original, and it’s actually a good song in a subtle way
What a perfect way to lift our spirits. You rock so hard.
I definitely was not expecting for this

King ghost cover, one with guitar solos.
Anyone who loved Porcupine Tree would find this version beautiful.
Only Mr Wilson could have weaved this quilt of Progressive paraphernalia and intrigue anybody! Thank you Mr Wilson!
Steven is a Soul that changes like the time.
Dude, you're so weird...but that's one of the things I like about you. Happy New Year, Steven.
Steven - it's an excellent song - and sounds rather like something you would write, which is part of why it works so well for your delivery.
Never heard a TS song before, I quite like it to be honest.
Her two 2020 albums are both incredible. Check out 'Folklore' first.
I can't stand anything she does, SW makes it good.
@@martharunstheworld totally agree.
@@martharunstheworld wow you're so quirky ahaha you don't listen to Taylor Swift haha wow so underground " I don't listen to mainstream music" quirky besties
Unexpected cover from him again!
Happy new year Mr. Steven and all of you here!
I don’t really get “prog purists” - none of the great progressive bands were or are purists themselves. Though I do think this is an odd choice, since it’s a very personal song for Taylor, about the history of her house in Rhode Island and its previous owner Rebekah West Harkness.
Thank you for that info. I love the lyrics so now I know what they mean.
Absolutely love it! Thanks. Happy New Year!
Greetings fellow prog rock fans.
Both of Taylor Swifts 2020 albums are incredible. Give them a listen and stop being afraid of liking Taylor Swift.
It's alright...
It's only music and you are allowed to like both Progressive rock and pop and I respect you for giving her a chance instead of having the same judgmental attitude as many other elitists rock and metal heads.
