I like the fact that your at a Toyota event and your recommending a Ford Ranger Raptor. Not intimidated by the fact Toyota is paying the bill.
The Ford will break down and the dealer won't honor the warranty
@@sokratzmmf Toyota hasn’t been honoring warranties on the new GR Corollas that have been blowing up…
@@sokratzmmfThis is 100, 1000% false.
@@1FiftyOverland ford is a junk brand.
have you ever had a raptor before or just hearing things? I am about to buy a ranger raptor?
If auto journalists weren't obsessed with "aging" and pushing brands to overhaul models so frequently, we might have reliable trucks.
I'd argue it's not the journalists. It's the customers.
I would say the Frontier still has old school reliability since they keep the rugged F-Alpha Frame with hydraulic brakes etc.. They mostly kept the same VQ design V6 except it burns cleaner with direct injection. Something they had to do (EPA). They chose a Daimler Benz 9 speed which is a proven Transmission. The new Toyota's are proving to have major issues. They aren't the overbuilt beasts of the past which is a product of the new CEO. Fords are utter crap. Their quality issues are widespread and they can't seem to get a handle on any of it. Chevy is a mixed bag and yes they had electrical issues on the Colorado. But those will likely get fixed as they are mostly software issues. I'd say the 2025 Colorado will be strong out of the gate. The drive train on that truck are very solid and my personal favorite in the segment. Also the best looking truck in the segment.
Toyota changes their models once a decade. And they don’t ever push innovation so there’s no excuse for lack of reliability.
@@HiPlains1 I actually had Nissan in mind, and Toyota at one point (pre-3rd gen Taco). The brands with the least generational overhauls tended to do better for reliability. Gives them time to work out the kinks. Ford and GM just can't help themselves. Stellantis needs to hold off on Jeep/Ram refreshes until they get a decent supplier for their engine internals. Hemi and Pentastar "lifter" ticks are super common in my area (Montana). Toyota can't seem to get a good trans for the Tacoma, the 3rd gen trans was junk too, they really should've just used the ZF-8.
@@stevoeight this. The 3g tundra wasn’t even anything special when it first came out. It was only just competitive and even not competitive in some ways.
I like the Trail Hunter a lot. But is it $10k better than a Ranger Raptor? Especially in smiles per miles? I just don’t see how.
You’re paying for that bulletproof Toyota reliability! You’ll get a brand new motor next year 😂
Totally agree. Thing that always bugs me about Fords (set the whole drivetrain discussion aside) is that their interiors are historically CHEAP. I don’t doubt the Ranger continues that heritage. Then again, the new GX should not have a Lexus badge with its’ interior either!!!
@@blackwatch7151bulletproof Toyota reliability? Lmao. Not anymore.
Electric rear window, electric tail gate, pneumatic seats. Hybrid, a lot could go wrong but i prefer payment princesses.
I visited Australia and New Zealand recently. The number of Ranger Raptors you see driving around is impressive! You don't see as many Toyota Hiluxes as one expects. I asked my local family and they said the Ford Ranger is now the market leader in those markets.
It’s been for a while now
I'd still buy a hilux
Because the T6 was designed there LOL. They also have twin turbo diesels on the Ranger. As far as the Hiluxe it has the D4D diesel which is their best engine. Too bad North America can't get the Hilux truck. It would sell well. Guaranteed.
@@HiPlains1Only because people have built it up so much that everyone thinks they need one. Just like the 70 series.
You don’t need a hilux or 70 series(or a Tacoma for that matter) to pose at Starbucks with your RTT and traction boards. I can do that in my Chevy bolt
Ironically I do carry traction boards in my bolt in the winter and have used them to get a 4Runner and an awd Sienna unstuck 😂
@@Jay-me7gwfile that under things that never happened.
For 65 so many better choices
People love toyota and will pay a slightly higher (yota tax). But only up to a point lol. When some of trims cost 10K more you better have the superior product. Yet all we hear are the problems. Differentials breaking, Differentials overheating, and the cheap internal bump stop using cheap cast aluminum top hat blowing up with the shock housing busting through into the wheel well. A back seat that is completely unusable. A hood that looks like its going to vibrate off because they cheeped out on the seals. The overuse of plastics everywhere. And for all that you get to pay 10K more? Only a fanboi of the highest level will. The SR5's are really starting to pile up on the lots as they are the worst as far as value. I'm hearing Yota already scaling back production. This is unheard of for that brand. This model has only been out less then half a year and they are starting to see lot rot. The price points and decision to underbuild these trucks is going to bite them.
Just dont spin the tires on ice and blow a differential
Don’t worry they gimped the engine tune to protect the cheap metal.
These are both ridiculously overpriced. I really hope Toyota takes a hit, sales wise. My full-size ’22 Silverado ZR2 was 65 k new, and that raised eyebrows only 2 years ago. Corporate price gouging is wild and will continue to do so until people stop shelling out.
Well to be fair the Tacoma probably costs more to build and prices have increased a good bit since even 2022.
Correction - Price Gauging. Best not to get on Kam’s bad side and have her sick the IRS on you…
For now the offroads, sports, and TRD pros are selling. You might still get a few thousand off on a sport or offroad but the SR5's are not selling as they are completely overpriced for what you get. I've seen SR5's sell for 45K. That's insane. With two plants in Mexico they will likely build inventories even more across all trims. I don't think these higher price points are sustainable in a economy that is about ready to tank.
@@ALMX5DP Except their price points are much higher then trucks like the ZR2 and Ford Ranger Raptor. Both of which are built by union members in the USA. The Tacoma uses dirt cheap labor in Mexico. Using the TNGA platform consolidates components across many products that should reduce manufacturing costs. If anything, the tacoma should offer competitive price points with the competition but this is far from the truth. They are the most expensive and so far seem to have the most issues of newly released mid size. Like with overheating diffs, diffs breaking, no frame mounded bump stops with shocks blasting through the cheap cast aluminum top hats and thinning out the steel in the box frame in many sections (why? better hope you don't get rust) and the overuse of cheap plastics everywhere. No this is like a iphone where the component cost is 150 bucks and they sell it for 900. We are talking HUGE margins here. I don't think this is the case with the oems but definitely toyota is looking on making bank on this. Consumers are too smart. I'm seeing big discounts already. Especially on the overpriced Sr5's that are piling up on the lots (lot rot).
@@HiPlains1 well sure, I don’t think anyone knows what the true profit margins are for any of the respective models mentioned here. I just replied to the OP about their truck. I really think that this Tacoma costs near as much to build if not more than a Silverado, even a ZR2 variant. Not sure how Ford and GM are able to position their Raptor and Colorado ZR2 lower still but lots of variables impact production costs and such. Does Toyota expect to keep production of their Pro and TH models relatively low perhaps?
I thought he was going to say "winch for when the front diff breaks" lol.
You pay $65,000 and still get a blank button 🤦♂️
That's actually where the start stop button is for the lower trims that have it. It's stupid they didn't just switch out for like the sway bar disconnect button because you don't find that on the lower trims.
I cannot fathom why anyone would buy a 65k Taco over a 55k RRaptor or 50k ZR2.
Even with all this time, Toyota is still somehow managing to ride that 'reliability' rep they have
Can we stop using the term “desert runner” so loosely? Can’t desert run in the desert without a trans cooler as we have already seen with this truck
Or frame mounted bump stops LOL. This new taco is built for fat margins using the cheapest labor possible. Many corners cut. Facts.
$10k more than the competition without a front locker. But hey, you get funky complicated seats that negate any rear legroom AND a nonfunctional hood scoop that kills visibility!
Sold!
no bump stops either.
One aspect I find lacking in the Toyota is the lack of space and amenities in the back seat. It almost feels like a King Cab instead of a Crew Cab.
Too expensive, pass
I like that:
First- cost
Second - ignore all other stats, regardless what they are
Efficient! 😂
@@Jacob99174 Stats don't hold up either.
1. no frame mounted bump stops. Using a cheaper internal one with aluminum top hats. Many failures of shock housing busting through the top hat.
2. No trans cooler, Overheating diffs and in some cases complete transmission failures and differential failure.
3. Poor paint and gap control. Bad QC coming out of the Mexico plants.
4. No front locker which is insane at this price point.
5. Worst back seat in class with the TRD Pro's being completely unusable. Even for a small child.
6. Lack of proper seal on hood allowing it to vibrate like hell at hwy speeds
7. Thinning out the steel on many sections of the box frame... better hope you don't live in the Midwest where they throw salt on the road.
@@HiPlains1that means:
Left hook AND right upper cut

@@HiPlains1suffice to say the Tacoma is now the worst midsize truck
Zero leg room in the rear!!! Terrible!!
lol so over dramatic
@@ALMX5DP Its pretty bad though. Even on the non TRD PRO models. Might as well make them all extra cabs and have a 6 foot box. The back seat is worthless.
@@HiPlains1 they make an extra cab for those who just want that. I’ve sat in the prior generation at 5’8” behind a 6’2” driver and been okay. Not the most comfortable but I was largely fine for the 100 mile trip. If this is similar, it’s definitely not “worthless” and saying it has “Zero” legroom is definitely dramatization.
@@ALMX5DPThere are no rear doors on the extracab Tacomas. That makes it useless most of the time, unless just reaching into the back of the cab for a fanny pack or purse.
@@dvader3263 I’m aware of that, merely responding to the other comment that such a configuration is available, even if some people think it’s useless. For the 4 door models I have sat in back and felt okay enough that to me it has some use.
I’m surprised you didn’t blow up the front differential on that thing. You were really pushing it to its limits lol.
The ZR2 with the multimatics suspension at 49K is the way to go. The 2.7 turbo is also a very good motor. I'm not hearing of issues with their refined 8 speed/2.7 combo. As with the new 8 speed 2.4 drive train I do hear of issues with the yota. No external bump stops is a bad design and will likely get fixed. The rear diff overheats. This entire TNGA truck is under built IMO like how they thin out the steel in the box frame in sections and the overuse of cheap plastics everywhere. Just a big money grab like an iphone. Big price, big margins, ho hum quality made in cheap labor market. I'd take a ZR2 made at the Wentzville Missouri by Americans before a new Yota. The new CE0 of Toyota is ruining their products cutting corners. They are not the overbuilt trucks they used to be. Like the video says the segment has never been this competitive. Even Nissan is making a positive step in a decent refresh of the frontier adding many features that customers wanted and making more options standard across trims. The Tacoma is not competitive anymore. Their price points are far higher but their trucks are no better and IMO worse.
Ranger Raptor and ZR2 Colorado is where it's at. No electric motors and batteries to worry about replacing in the future. Less tech so less that can potentially go wrong.
the batteries are warrantied for 10 years, the ranger raptor will break down before that
@@johnrose7212so the tundra issue doesn’t register in your head?

TFLoffroad - FYI… there is this auto manufacturer called Nissan and they have a truck called the Frontier. It has a NA V6 and it cost thousands of dollars less than any of the trucks you guys mentioned in this video. Just thought you should know.
The NA v6 is in not a bonus for a lot of people. I actually really like GTDI’s, and if you intend to tow a trailer, they have a pretty massive advantage. The Ranger, Colorado and, to a lesser extent, the Tacoma are the first mid-sized trucks I’d consider replacing a half ton with, since they are equipped with half to powertrains.
Hell my 5.7L v8 Toyota struggles with my 5500 lb trailer here in utah
Well said. The $ saved on a Nissan product over it's more expensive counterpart cannot be over stated.
Nissan basura
Yea TFL is obsessed with Toyota & featuring one of the most expensive models of the trucks.
Premium price for poor quality....IMO
I was going to buy one but then thought i really don't want to buy the toyota CEO a new private jet.
Does it have actual frame mounted bumpstops or is going to break the tophat like all the other Tacoma models, and have they fixed their failure prone transmissions?
The whistle comes free on the Trail Hunter 😂.
Didn’t you guys already break one of these? LOL
Notice how controlled that event was on very mild terrain. Yota knows they have crappy internal bump stops and weak transmission/diffs and no trans cooler. They made sure no big embarrassments on this event. I'm almost convinced they think all of these will be used for crawling malls so they cut corners.
This video is basically an advertisement for Ford's Ranger Raptor.
65 k I could get a 7.3 Godzilla 😂
Lol yes it would be awesome if someone put a 7.3 liter Godzilla in the Ranger Raptor now that would be freaking awesome I saw a video of a Mustang that had the 7.3 Godzilla and the hood bulge was crazy I think it was a couple of years ago when I saw that video.
When you're already in love with something, nothing else compares. By you saying that you love a certain vehicle, it's pointless to continue your conversation......
ZR2 and $15-20k left over for a fun used sports car
I like the TFL/Glucker mash ups!
It is really nice that so many of the manufacturers have devoted so much greater capability to these trucks, but how many of us live in the mountains or deserts and challenge their trucks to the max of their rock climbing or mud traversing abilities every single day? The fact that many of these very capable trucks have prices around $60K makes me ask who is buying them? Most of us tow a trailer or boat sometimes or haul tools or construction materials in the back either daily or occasionally, but do we really need a locking front differential to go to the lumber yard? My point is test tucks that we actually buy not the top of the line specialty rigs with nosebleed prices. Most of us just face good to crappy roads and not mountain passes.
ZR2 FTW!
Reliability and resale are the advantages of Toyota. You get what you pay for in the end.
This is not reliable dude. Reports of many transmission failures and differentials overheating. NO trans cooler. Went to cheap internal bump stops with cheap cast aluminum top hats. Now we have trucks with the shock housing blowing through the top hats right into the wheel well. Poor paint and gaps and bad QC coming out of Mexico. Hood vibrating like hell from lack of proper seal. Overuse of plastics in the interior. The new TNGA platform is designed for one thing. To reduce costs, cut corners, and fatten up the margins. In case you had not heard there is a new CEO. These are not the same overbuilt trucks of the past.
This thing better be amazing off-road for 65K. It better be 10K better than a Ranger raptor or a Colorado ZR2 which I suspect it’s not.
Awfully expensive for a mid-size truck
What trail was this?
What trail is this?
Just wait for transmission or engine recall to be coming to the new Tacoma. Toyota reliability is no more a thing anymore it's now a afterthought now. The Ranger Raptor is better in my opinion since it has a Twin turbo V6 unlike with the GM midsize truck Ranger you can get three different engine choices a 2.3 a 2.7 and the 3.0 liter twin turbo V6
Please tell us what trail you drove on this video. Thanks
Dude!? Location? What road/trail?
Imagine they heard them talking through the radio about how they would rather have a Ranger Raptor over the Tacoma and All of a sudden they stop and get out the trucks. Walk towards them and tells them to leave 🤣 Alright, Your done here.
I have been a LIFELONG Toyota fan. I own a TRD Pro Taco and a TRD Off Road 4runner currently. I have had 6 others in the past. I could not agree with you more. The Ranger Raptor not only beats the new Tacoma, it BLOWS it doors off! Literally…. I just can’t believe I am saying that. I would not buy a new TRD Pro taco or 4Runner (when they come out). Just ain’t happening! I would if they would actually let us order one how we want it and gave us a naturally aspirated option or a Turbo Diesel option. But until then, (not holding my breath) Ima sure glad I got the 2 that I have now. Toyota should replace that new CEO! He destroying that company quick like!
Its simple 300 yards is far in the field with any cartridge. I make first round hits at 1102 yards with my 6 creed on steel everytime if the wind isnt too crazy. 350 is super far in the field. I will attempt prairie dogs as far as I see em, but never more than 300 or so on game. Maybe 400+ from a blind over a field, but that ain't the kind of hunting I have access to.
Thanks guys awesome video
Those prices and greedy dealers it’s a no go for now.
After test driving and spending a good amount of time inspecting and just the overall feeling of the fourth gen Tacoma; not to mention all the teething pains going on with the new platform, like no bump stops, transmission issues and just the unknowns of the new four cylinder/turbocharger…. I’ll respectfully pass. I just hope my 22 trd pro won’t succumb to a bad accident, where it would be totaled by insurance because I don’t know at this point what I’d replace it with.🤷♂️. Definitely not ANY fourth gen Tacoma unfortunately. 😳
if you drive fast enough , the hood bounces up and down, nice touch Toyota
Considering you can buy a loaded Pro4x Nissan right now for 38-39k , it clearly is the smartest buy. Unless your rich, than God Bless.
Looks like you could handle that trail with a Corolla
Just don't go to fast. You will damaged the front struts. They will brake the top pats.
How can you say the seats are not a good idea if you don’t set them up. As a daily owners should only have to adjust it one time?
If you only ever use it on the street, yes. Otherwise you're going to adjust it for the street, adjust again for the trail, adjust again for high speed running in the sand...
lol, for 65k USD it better be the best😂
No bump stops?
They made the TRD Pro for TruckCels. It’s not an aspirational or halo product like Raptor, TRX (rip), Cybertruck, or Hummer where you pay extra for “the look”. You pay $10k for Toyota’s NEET gamer seats!
$90k in Puerto Rico!
🤦🏾♂️
Bro thinks just everyone specially in todays day in age has $60K+ 😂😂 saying the Gladiator is told to is crazy 😂
If they bring these prices down to match the ranger raptor it will easily outsell it, that being said I think the trail hunter is the way to go on these tacomas, the trd pro is just to gimmicky with those seats
That TRD Pro in that colour is so good looking. But I still take the cheaper ZR2.
I would've bought any of the Trucks mentioned but only the Tacoma has a 6-foot bed with a Locker.
Was this really a video regarding the TRD Pro or the Ford Ranger Raptor? Lol
Toyota's are nice trucks , sure, the best thing that could happen if all these top end models from each brand were all within a few thousand dollars of each other ,then you' get the deal you want , then it would show the Ranger Raptor is still the best value, it does has a slightly bigger back seat over the Toyota Tacoma, first year of the Ranger Raptor had lots of issues and most have been fixed, now its Toyota's turn to do it with the Tacoma, its the normal first year blues with a new model and back the price down $5000 to be competitive with the other brands, don't add tech to the trucks, just make what they have better, the Aussie's apparently already have a front locker available for the new Tacoma and Land Cruiser, its like $3000 👍
Man, I only wish my 23' pro4x had MTB shocks in the seats..... Lol
Tacoma is a failure
Where’s the bump stops? Hehe
It’s even worse - the part that breaks is the shock stem bushing support. You don’t have to bottom out to break it.
Wonder how no physical bump stops are
Seats are dumb. Drop them. Drop the extra price for them. The price kills them. The Colorado/canyon is some minor update and package options away from running away with sales. And I’m a Tacoma guy..
Just dont ask the front diff to to any work. Wouldnt want it breaking like TFL's did.
Love Toyota
For $65k I’d rather get the Tundra TRD Pro for $72k. This Tacoma TRD Pro shouldn’t cost more than $58k max
Best purchases to find a solid used late second Tacoma. Did you know you have a motor that’ll last for 300,000 miles instead of a Ford or Chevy that will die at 100.

I won't be buying a new taco for that price, this is ridiculous! I'll wait for a used one or maybe a used LC.
Toyota is asking way too much for a midsized truck. Especially with a truck that has a four cylinder and seats that has too many gadgets that's just asking to break. And all that and still no front locker. Toyota has really dropped the ball these days.
If you'd raise the stupid seat, you might be able to see out!
Trailhunter would be the pick for me. But in reality, the Ranger Raptor is a far better value. The TRD Pro seats are a stupid gimmick. I bet more would buy a TRD Pro if a regular seat was an option. But still, $65k for a Tacoma no matter the trim is stupid.
Never, ever thought I'd say this...Toyota isn't terrific at the moment and I'm sad about it.
Apple to apple, Colorado and Canyon are in the same price or even higher than this Pro in comparison. These two guys seem very biased. Jeep gladiators are the most expensive.
