This is the best video on how to do anything digitally that I have ever watched. I loved the detail on how you do something and why. For example, I did not know that union is the same thing as welding letters together. That helps me a lot to do other things and know how to do it. Thanks so much and I look forward to more videos from you.
Hands down the most to the point and helpful tutorial I've seen yet and I've watched a ton in the last couple years! Thank you for this video! Subscribed!
Oh gosh, after so many tries and fails yours finally worked. Concise and to the point and love your accent to boot!!! thank you, thank you, thank you!!
You were the 4th tutorial i got to and I am so thankful I found you instructions were precise and on point with each step. Thanks So Much definately subscribed
Narelle, you did a fabulous job explaining the steps to doing this. I use Inkscape often when designing projects and have learned from many wonderful instructors. I am not sure if I have ever watched you do an Inkscape tutorial before, but I have to say...you are fantastic!!!! Right up there with the best of them. Clear cut instructions!!!
This was awesome... Finally a simple video... Well explained... Very detailed... The problem I'm having is closing up the hole the word love... I can't get the O right ... I'll keep trying...
Hiya thank you for this really good in depth video! i wanted to ask before i export as svg do i need to group them together? or it doesn't matter? thank you for your response appreciate it xx
Thank you so much!!! I followed your video by pausing it at every step. After 2 hours, and many failed attempts, I have finally gotten it and I am so excited! Thanks for taking the time to help x
Hi, I have followed your video for the knockout design, it worked for me thank you, however when I saved it as a DXF file to open in my silhouette the scribble font came up small and to the left of the design. Do you have any advise on this please?
Thanks for another great video, you're a star. Using the node to adjust the offset is a much quicker way than using the menus...love it! [as a side note - not so important for a file this small, but when I was doing a mandala in Inkscape, DS had a heart attack, it was too big. Apparently saving the SVG as a plain SVG instead of an Inkscape SVG makes it a smaller file size]
Thank you for sharing this...I saw a project someone made & loved it... Watching this & downloading inkscape I have been able to create it... I'm still learning & I really like the way you explain things. :-)
Oh my goodness, Narelle! This has been revolutionary for me. I got Inkscape a couple of years ago when I saw someone (sorry, I forget who) show how to sketch with my Cricut, using Inkscape to create the design. LOVE the program, but have never spent the time finding out how to use it properly. Instead, I have been bumbling along in the dark (it seems) creating different designs quite effectively, but spending hours doing so. In watching this vid, I learnt several shortcuts that would have saved me hours! 🙄😂 What training would you recommend, as I really enjoy creating from scratch, or converting pics into scrappable pieces?
I'm trying to just do an initial and knockout. everything was going great till I went to do the difference step. it says one of the objects is not a path. I try making the initial a path but it won't let me. can you help me with that. thank you so much for your time.
Nicole Newman, is this happening in inskscape? This is probably due to the ‘snap to’ tools setting. In the video you can see the small boxes on the very right hand side of the page. I’m not well versed in these programs but I know that I was having similar issues and I found that clicking those snap align tools made a difference.
I have the I Love Glitter font installed on my laptop (it comes up in Design Space and Word when I use those programs) but it doesn’t appear in my fonts in Inkscape. Does anyone know why this would be happening, please? I have also tried using some other fonts I know are installed but they don’t appear in Inkscape either. It is very frustrating!
I think so. The shadow thing didn't work for me. Once I figured out a way around that and got my "shadow" on top of my other text, I clicked "Difference" and nothing happened. I'm guessing it's an update issue.
It still works. (In both V92.4 and the latest version 1.0). Make sure you follow all the steps. Type your text / Path, Object to Path / Object, Ungroup / Path, Union. Do that for both sets of text. Then select the text you want to create the offset and click Path, Linked Offset. The diamond will appear. Hold down the shift key and resize the offset. Move the original text out of the way. Select offset text then Path, Break apart / Path, Union. Move offset text over your other word, align it where you want it, select both and go to Path, Difference.
By far the BEST tutorial video for using Inkscape to do knockout text. Thank you!!!

Thanks so much Patti! Making tutorial videos is fun but nerve wracking! I try to make them as short as possible and only include the facts. :)

Thanks Michelle. Sounds like you need to learn how to trace. I hope to put something together showing how to do that soon. :)
THANK YOU!

Did you hightlight your initial and select Path, Object to Path. I cover that at approx 4:35m
doesnt work at all for me, the heart and swoosh thing and im pressing the keys she mentions
When I try to move things around, it seems to jump and I cant get it perfectly back together...am I doing something wrong?

Go back to your font download, right click and select “install for all users”. Close Inkscape and reopen. Your font should be there then.
@@thenoncraftycrafter Thank you very much for your help! It worked and I am now very happy!! 😃 That was a great tutorial. 👍🏻
doesn't seem to work anymore as the diamond is no longer there. Might be outdated version?

Nothing happens when I click on "Difference" either :(
