I'm a bit late, but a lot of tutorials forget to tell you to turn off 'snap'. You're the only one I found that mentions this. It's been 6 months and didn't understand why I could not get the 'node' enabling me to actually manipulate the offfset. It doesn't show up without the last step. UGH. And thank you! Subscribed!
What I also realize now is that Inkscape has changed this feature and you will not see the node in 'select' mode. You have to click 'edit paths by nodes' just below select. But it's the price of using open source software. Which I love having and learning. 🥰

I used this to teach me how to offset a simple necklace svg design. Thank you so much! It was super easy to understand!

Are you only clicking one layer? I’m not super proficient in Inkscape and don’t really use it anymore now that Design Space has offset.
