The best just got better. Our flagship amaran COB series has led the industry in accessibility, output, and modularity for the past two years, but that wasn't enough. We re-engineered our top-of-the-line LED chipset from the ground up, pushing it to its limits, to deliver perfect color accuracy.
Featuring an all-new dual-blue LED chipset design, the COB
S Series has improved spectral continuity to achieve stunning spectral
reproduction of an ultra-high SSI (D56) of 96, a 19% increase in
SSI from its predecessor. The enhanced color accuracy can also be seen in the increased CRI (96), TLCI (99), TM-30 RF (96), and TM-30 RG (100) values. The 60x, 100x, and 200x bi-color fixtures tout a near-perfect tungsten reproduction at 3200K, with their range spanning 2700K to 6500K. These are all monumental increases in color accuracy from the predecessor COB series, establishing the S series as the most color-accurate LED's on the market.

For those wondering what's the big deal... I'm guessing it comes down the "dual blue" LED.
If that means what I think it means, that's great. Virtually 100% of LED fixtures currently sold use blue LEDs underneath Red and Green phosphors to create white light. That means there's always a huge blue spike and it causes pinks/magentas to skew blue (also the reason why the SSI score is stupid). In order to get closer to blackbody curve, there are newer LEDs that use violet, or violet and blue LEDs... this causes there to be two, smaller, spikes on the blue end of the spectrum, instead of one big one. Overall, this creates a more natural magentas and more closely represents the black body curve... hence, a higher SSI that blue-based white LEDs .
I have not looked into whether the S series is implementing this tech, but if it is, I would be interested.
The SSI score was invented to urge manufactures to implement these kinds of improvements... and if it works, then it will have been worth the annoyance.

Zero technical data, I would never buy this stuff without a technical presentation. But you have a really big sales footprint of people who don't care at all about the technicals so best of luck selling to them.

LMAO Bruh, this was a basic commercial. All you had to do was a simple Google search and you could've seen the specs ... and better yet, there's reviews using light spectrometers out there to confirm the accuracy of what Aputure/Amaran is claiming.

The COB S series has a higher color quality than the previous model. Check out our website for specific stats.

We use them all the time and don't hear noise!
Curtis Judd is reporting that the fans are improved. He’s a super sensitive professional sound guy. If the previous model caused issues, the new model might solve them.
Would mixing and matching an old 200x with a new 200x S cause any issue with grading or colour shifting at all? Or is it close enough that you would have to be looking for it? I have one already but would be interested in a 2nd (but now the S) would love to know if I should go older model to match or newer?
You wouldn't have any issues!
For matching, choose one unit (probably the older model) as reference and match to that. I might be old school, but I would keep some 1/8 CTO and CTB in your kit as well.
I really don't understand why? If it was for professionals than ok, but it's amaran. I don't understand why to make new product line? If you just replace the old chip and hore the price with some explanation in the video why not but to make new product line? It's not wrong but I don't understand it.

@1:19 we can see an amaran 100d S with the fresnel... does i works with the 200x S as well ?
The 200x is not optimized for the fresnel because of its striped bi-color chipset.
Pointless upgrade on a line update that could do with so much change. Why not release a Mark II Version and allow the ability to power of a Battery as well.
Wasted opportunity on making the dual blue chip stand out.

You can power the COB 60's with NPF's and all lights with V-Mounts (check out the two-bay battery power station)! We're so sorry to hear the video confused you. I actually directed it (this is Alec responding) and I'm hoping to clear up any misconceptions. The X refers to Bi-Color and D for Daylight for the LED Chipset. The S series is our new lights that have better color rendition across the board. Feel free to float us any productive feedback and we can pass it on to the product design team.
I think it’s a fab video inspiring me to get two 100D S lights for my two person video podcast.
The whole point of the Amaran line is to be low cost while still offering incredible color accuracy and power and the new S series does an incredible job of that.
Heck, they seem to even be doing better than the Aputure flagships that so many TH-camrs have peddled.
Sure, different features would be nice but that's not Amaran's niche. That's Aputure's niche and you can bet that come next year, they'll have something announced at NAB or elsewhere about a Mark III line or something along those lines. ❤
