I have been carrying mine for weeks now and I love it. I always wanted a TR-3 but I was waiting for it to be in something more rust resistant so magnacut was perfect for me.
I totally want my Malibu to look like a fish. Please, ProTech, gimme a scaly Malibu. Scaly Malibu sounds like something that I could find on urban dictionary.
yea these feature a new safety switch and magnacut. I believe it’s a new steel on the safety and it’s now one piece construction versus multiple piece construction. Blade HQ has a video covering it during their blade show tour w/ protech.
Just think of it as a Masterwork Scale Mail +3 knife! lol I feel you, I blade-swapped mine into a grooved handle TR-3 huge improvement, but then I decided I only needed 1 TR-3 and had to un-blade swap and sell the non-MC so I choose to think of it as a badass scale mail knife. :)
Interestingly enough, my ProTech Harkins Tuxedo has fired in my pocket once... Still do not know how that happened, and I had to extricate it VERY carefully!
Just got mine in. Will be my safe Queen due to local laws of not carrying. The current carry is Benchmade 417 and secondary is Spyderco Carribean. Thanks for video
Heck I already have my kalashnikov get pulled out of my pocket by pallet wrapping at work on the regular. I feel like it's gone forever every time I go to grab it and it's not there. Then later find it hanging off a pallet in back stock!
I just got a new Curtiss f3 spanto in magnacut. Took a few flipps but I love it now . I hate the keys on a carabiner guy hanging off his belt loop like a cow bell.
I am with you on the fish scale. I like the grooved handle. It felt the most comfortable in my hand. Looking for the LTD model, if anyone has one for sale.
Too funny my dad does the same thing with the “nice” knives i give him. No idea how he hasn’t lost them. +1 on the looking like an absolute goober while carrying outside the wasteband/pocket
Never, ever put a knife in that part of my pocket (always in back seam of pocket)...just never occurred to me to carry it any other way. Fish scale look is kinda cool for me. Love Protech knives, though don't have one yet.
I carry knives in my LFP up front. The blade is flipped around and facing the opposite direction because all of my shit is set up for tip down RH carry and I have an Emerson in the pocket. I'd rather not catch the wave with my pinky and flay my wrist open. Plus, my Modlite is against the back seem. In the other pocket, I carry a DART up front for similar reasons: it's waived and meant to be drawn edge forward like a karambit, just with a tanto blade.
I was leaning more toward getting a magnacut blade for my next knife. However, a protech rep was giving me his personal opinion, and said that be was finding it hard to get a really good sharp edge on his blade after it got dull. Now that they have been available to general public a yr or so, has anyone else had the same experience? Any thoughts on this?
I want one of these SOO BAD (this exact variant), but whenever I find one I don’t usually have the funds and when I have the funds they’re out of stock... RIP, really hope Protech keeps this variant in the line for a while Edit: snagged one thanks to the wonderful folks in this reply thread at knifejoy and as of this edit they have 1 more! MC I carry a Halo 5 in the front part of my pocket and it works out fine!!! (Don’t ever do that btw that’s just begging for trouble)

Auto's and otfs are illegal in my country, still cool to see though.But gov does allow you to carry a 11.5 inch folder instead, doesn't make any sense to me.... 😂
My only knocks against ProTech are too many black blades/handles, which isn't my style, and too much 154cm. I can't wait to get my hands on a Magnacut user (I have a #10/50 ATCF). Until then, 20cv will do nicely.
They have plenty variety. I have an ultimate custom Protech Sprint and the only one I’ve seen close to match mine is the one Nick Shabazz was gifted by the owner of Protech, but mine is anodized blue and his is raw titanium. Also have a Runt that has blue aluminum handles, TR-3 w/ MOP button, Malibu w/ abalone button, and a Godfather w/ marbled carbon fiber and mirror polished blade.
@@TKO593 yes they do have some wonderful non-black offerings. I have 2 blue Malibus (Blade TX & BHQ), as well as a DW Arcform auto in green/bronze. I know their bread & butter is black though. It sells out so I don't blame them. I just keep looking for my wishlist.
regarding the question why some people carry their knife in the front of the pocket - next to their genitals: watch the video of craig douglas demonstrating how to carry and draw the spyderco p'kal. in this context it totally makes sense. in others... mostly not. if you have a tipdown knife (like the spyderco military), it might make sense to carry the knife with the blade against the seam of the pocket... but yea...

I feel like I am buying what you have coming in or just bought. LOL. By the way, they redesigned their lock, which I like a whole lot more than Benchmade’s that is similar on their Moderator.
Don't love it either, but the fish scales seem appropriate for an extremely corrosion-resistant blade. Because ... fish are so corrosion resistant, amiright?
In some states you have to open carry switchblades and having one on the outside of your pockets makes it visible and can be debated as open carry way easier
I carry a knife at the front of my pocket whenever I carry 2 knives on me. I'll have one at the usual back of my pocket, and my secondary at the front. However, people who put the knife on the OUTSIDE of the pocket.....🤦♂️
Yea, like Alex says, dragon scales! I owned mine for a while. Traded a god son for it. Don't want your blade pointing toward your weapon! Carry your knife on the outside of your pocket? Yea! That's how I carry my wallet too!
@@metal_complex this steel is known to break easily with pressure applied to it in the field if it has impurities. Not exactly too hard to get your head around now is it 🤣
I just can't get into side autos. They seem to have none of the advantages of a double action OTF and all of the disadvantages of an auto. An Axis lock Benchmade, or any one of hundreds of flippers are just as capable.

Being a button lock I actually like to keep it locked open not closed. & they nailed the heat treatment on this Magnacut!
You got me into protechs and I've had my tr3 for 2 months now and I absolutely love it.
