If Japan had nukes during ww2 . They would have nuke pearl harbor no doubt and decimate the US navy. They are aggressive nation that made 3 invasion attempts on China through Korea. They were all crush because the Korean with Chinese support crush them. Only after industrial modernization did Japan succeed in invading korea and rest of asia. I find it odd that Americans are rooting for Japan to rearm when they were the aggressor nation during ww2 to asia and the US. China on the other hand was allies with the US against japan and later the soviet. I can't wrap my mind around American mindset of rearming a former enemy against an historical ally.

Izumo is an anti-submarine helicopter carrier.
Even if Izumo were to carry F-35Bs, the number would be in the single digits, and refueling at sea would be at its limit.
You shouldn't even think about re-arming and sortieing
However, it is meaningful for joint operations with the US Marine Corps.
This will also serve as a training aircraft carrier for the next ships to be built.

The class is follow-on from the previous Dokdo-class amphibious assault ships which prioritized amphibious capability, while the CVX will be designed for fixed wing and rotary wing operations instead, constituting a traditional aircraft carrier. The flight deck will be of an axial design for Korean Stealh Fighters KF21 .
The CVX will be one of the few aircraft carriers in the world to feature two islands. What the video didn't explain is Kaga (加賀) was an aircraft carrier built for the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) and was named after the former Kaga Province in present-day Ishikawa Prefecture. Originally intended to be one of two 👉Tosa-class battleships, Kaga was converted under the terms of the Washington Naval Treaty to an aircraft carrier as the replacement for the battlecruiser. The ship figured prominently in the development of the IJN's carrier striking force doctrine, which grouped carriers together to give greater mass and concentration to their air power. A revolutionary strategic concept at the time, the employment of the doctrine was crucial in enabling Japan to attain its initial strategic goals during the first six months of the Pacific War.
Kaga's aircraft first supported Japanese troops in China during the Shanghai Incident of 1932 and participated in the Second Sino-Japanese War in the late 1930s. With other carriers, she took part in the Pearl Harbor raid in December 1941 and the invasion of Rabaul in the Southwest Pacific in January 1942. The following month her aircraft participated in a combined carrier airstrike on Darwin, Australia, and helping secure the conquest of the Dutch East Indies by Japanese forces. She missed the Indian Ocean raid in April as she had to return to Japan for repairs after hitting a reef in February.
Following repairs, Kaga rejoined the 1st Air Fleet for the Battle of Midway in June 1942.

With air refueling, the F35b’s should have increased range.
Increased range for carrier based aircraft is critical to their attack mission, since anti-ship missiles have longer range, certainly up to 500 miles, so the carriers are vulnerable.
Japan needs carriers since if there is a war, land airbases will be the the first target, while carriers, being mobile, can evade detection.
More light carriers rather than a few heavy carriers still provide more resilience.
It is essential to develop airborne early warning, which has previously required fixed wing aircraft, however there are efforts, both in the U.S. Navy and UK Navy to develop helicopter borne airborne early warning, a critical mission for defense against anti-ship missiles.
The US Navy is also developing their amphibious assault ships into light aircraft carriers to develop defense as well as offensive capacity utilizing th3 F35B vertical takeoff aircraft, which, while not as capable as the C model, does have much more capability than the vertical takeoff Harriers, which are being phased out.
I expect Japan to develop a much more capable Navy, especially with the rise of China, the Nuclear armed N. Koreans and the increased aggressiveness of Russia.
The Japanese may be entering an era of self sufficiency, since it’s uncertain what the US will be capable of in the future. This could mean more aircraft carriers, the emergence of a self sufficient aircraft industry, development of space technologies, and likely nuclear propulsion for submarines.
Expect Japan to be transformed industrially and the emergence of a capable research base, since Japan is attempting to incentivize employment of PhD’s, since there’s been a crisis in unemployment of new PhD’s.

Good point, mid-air refueling for carrier-based fighter jets to extend their range is something the UK has perfected a long time ago and has been assisting and training the US/NATO forces with on training exercises in the South Pacific region. And you're right, that's a key tactical and strategic benefit because carriers (and figher jets) are highly vulnerable to Russian and Chinese hypersonic missile attack due to their speed and range. Take the Russian Kh-47M2 hypersonic missile, reported to be Mach 12 (almost 10,000 mph) with a range of 1,200km, and for a small missile a high payload to size ratio...capable of delivering 500kg of conventional warhead explosive, the equivalent of 4,300lbs of TNT..that's enough to do subtantial damage to a carrier.
It will be interesting (for NATO and the US) in the coming weeks to see whether Ukraine's forces are able to shoot down the Kh-47M2 missiles using the US Patriot air defense missile system, considered one of the most advanced in the world...Some military analysts think Russia has hyped the Kh-47M2 in terms of its speed, accuracy and guidance system maneuverability spec provided..and claims its unstoppable, making it a serious strategic missile threat to NATO carriers...if Patriot is able to take down the Kh-47M2 it will be a big defense reassurance to the US and NATO when deploying carriers and high-value assets in the Black Sea in future.

Don't forget that it is not that Japan didn't want to improve their defenses, they were restricted by the 1945 surrender agreement. In order to build better defenses, they need to start getting towards weapons that can be used as attack weapons and that would go against both the agreement, and Japan's Constitution (which is pacifist because of the agreement). So the fact they are slowly pushing the limits has nothing to do with what they want, but rather what the US and NATO allies that enforce that agreement are allowing them to do, as well reforms in the Constitution, also allowed (or simply reinterpreted to modern times) by NATO. With China and North Korea just at their doorstep, you can bet they wish they could have invested in these technologies a lot sooner, but it took China, NK and even Russia to become a serious threat for NATO to allow them under the table.

It's a huge waste of money, but unfortunately it's necessary. Japan is not well liked by China or Korea, and historically for good reasons. But that's in the past. In the current situation they are part of the first island chain and important in keeping a militarized China at bay. If it leads to WW three that will be on China. Personally I don't see a way out of it unless something drastic happens. China's itching for a fight. Historically they've always been the one being assaulted, and many nationalities took advantage. China has the ability to be a strong power in the world, but it seems that it wants to flex its military muscles. That's not good. It's at the expense of all the other countries and therefore upsets the rule of law which is important for commerce.
So yeah China is looking for a fight and preparing for one.

I think multiple small carriers would be the way to go (more agile and can spread across multiple locations or combine for one larger force that requires multiple sink targets). With a mixture of subs (take other other aircraft carriers) and anti-aircraft ships (sea/air defense) is the way to go.
I would also design some type of defensive trawler that follows and surrounds the aircraft carrier, their purpose is to throw some nets around with mini explosives that trigger when great force hits the net. This would act as a SHIELD against sub torpedoes trying to sink your aircraft carrier. The torpedo would hit the net, trigger an explosive and flow up 1km from the carrier. You could have multi layererd rings as well one at 500m distance if the first net is broken by one torpedo you are protected by the next one and can hopefully locate and hunt down the sub that fired them before they finally get you.

Don't know what you do for a living my friend, but that is not a bad idea. I kept thinking about a defensive ship, because as it goes right now, I dont believe the U.S. vessels can carry enough defensive missiles on board. The newer Chinese vessels and the older Russian ones can carry more offensive ship to ship missles than the U.S. vessels can launch in defense.

@@GonzoA211 It's fun that people actually found my random idea interesting. I'm an operations analyst and strategist, as a teen I have ranked1 in shogun2 multiplayer aha. so like the reason being able to combine or distribute a smaller force is beneficial is you can more easily carry out harass and surprise attacks on infrastructures. say if your enemy has 1 large force and you have 3 small ones... 2 small is probably enough to draw with the large one if they setup a defensive position then you can send the 1 extra small force off to attack naval gas pumps or something so their large force cannot really move around, then they become sitting ducks... furthermore if the large force tries to attack your harass unit, then the 2 other large ones can come in and support it now you've actually encircled them and fight the large one on multiple flanks which gives you an advantage... anyway i don't have to connections to every work on projects that could see ideas like this come to life, if a navy wants to hire me DM me lol

Honestly not allowing Japan to rebuild its armed forces was a big mistake written on the surrender clause. Aircraft carriers are both an offensive and defensive surface ships. So they have the right to build aircraft carriers that are not necessarily equal in size to those of the US Navy. But big enough to counter an external threat like China.

I think Japan building up their navy is a smart thing and WW2 was a long time ago. I feel like Japan is a much different country from what it was back then. Japan doesn't want war but it needs to be able to defend itself and it's allies and I believe they should be allowed to further equip themselves. As for militarization in general I think it's something that will always be needed unfortunately. However I think the world would develop a lot better if we all just found a way to unify ourselves. Though there are a many hurdles that prevent this from anger of past events / bitter history and rivalry, racial inequality, God complexes, etc. The sooner we can get other countries to agree to be one united nation of nations I think the closer we will be to peace. Though I am not saying any government should give up their sovereignty or anything like that. Just unite and carry each other and their people instead of greed and power. It's no different than rich vs poor. What you gonna do with all that money? Just hoard it and lord it over people? I dunno but there's gotta be a better way to run the world. ....sorry I kind of ranted and went off topic...
