I call mine the top hat, because I mainly grade with SGC, top hat goes with the tux. I remember pulling one of those "limited edition" classic Shaq's, mine has a smashed corner unfortunately. I think my favorite card from your sub is the Frank Thomas rookie sensations. Your right, they were a very big deal, only in the Jumbo's if I remember. The big hurt is one of my PC guys. Hey David
I was just perusing through your old videos and decided to watch this one for no particular reason.
Was having fun with your first psa submission and trying to guess grades with you when you came across a Frank Thomas rookie sensations card.
I said to myself “Self? You have one of those in your slab PC”. I found it and BLOW MY MIND it’s that same card in your video!!
Anyway, since it was a starter of your collection, do you want it back??
More sentimental value for you than me.
No strings attached. As far as I’m concerned it should stay in your hands.
As always, thank you for continued generosity to me and my son AND the hobby!!

Because of that, the 1979 card is not just his rookie card... it's the only year Topps released any Earl Campbell cards during his playing days. @@DavidGonos what people dont think about is that graders probably havnt even collected in their life..they get trained very little but your taking their word for what they say it is..imagine all you do all day at work is grade cards..what if you woke up with a headache that day ..or have some other issue going on in your life..do you think they are grading the card the same as they would on a good day? maybe even their eyesight could be not as good as someone else..too many variables for me at least to pay the money it takes to get these slabbed.. like that Griffy, you mentioned and you can clearly see it wasnt placed in the holder right..so if they cant even get it in the holders correctly but your trusting them with a grade and handling of your cards..

@@DavidGonos I guess I learn something every time (this was my 2nd PSA submission). It seems they were VERY corner particular on this batch. Centering is big but not as big as corners. I had a '74 Killebrew that I had high hopes on, maybe even a "9" but got a "7" while my '74 Reggie Jackson I figured would be lower than Killebrew. Ended up with an "8" for him. Well-pleased there. Then I had a batch of '89 Hoops cards. Thought I filtered out the best Michael Jordan's (I had quite a few) but the two All-Star cards of him, which I thought were the best candidates for "10" came back "6" (basically worthless). My eyes bugged out on those. I wouldn't send in 6's on such a modern card. BUT, there it was, I think! A couple of dents (not creases) on each card, same place. Barely visible but still HOW DID I MISS THEM?

@@TimothySmiths I totally understand and I Kick myself a lot as I open the boxes and see some of the grades. On the flip side, I get enough high grades to keep me coming back (I'm already looking at some of my other cards to see what I might send in). Simply, you can't get a lot of money for ungraded cards (if that's why you are doing it and I'm about 80% doing it for that reason). Getting them on a slab and getting decent grades will profit you every time IF you are wise and selective. My selectivity this time left much to be desired but I'll probably come out a little better than even. And it's fun!

I personally never send my vintage cards to PSA unless they are centered and no creases. The whole point of grading is to invest in selling them in the future. When you factor in the cost if they are graded, you actually get more money in your pocket by selling non centered cards on e-bay when they are not graded. At least that's what I've learned from personal experience.

    • @DavidGonos

Grading also encapsulates and preserves for future years, so if I think a card, even if it’s beaten, will rise in value in 5-10 years, grading makes sense.
