So I wouldn’t submit multiples of the same card or too many of the same player in a submission, especially GOATs like Jordan. 3. Be more critical of condition especially centering. Use a magnifier of some sort. Either a glass or your phone. Best of luck
If psa is telling us not to send in junk wax for grading becuae they dont want to grade by grading thwm low. Then we should twll them we wont do business with them by sending them elsewhere.
89 MJ All Star is a 5.9 to 6, if you look at the bottom left a slight bend before the corner. I would grade it under a 6 but, who am I, right? I checked out over 600 thousand sports cards that were sent to me by collectors to get my opinion before being sent in to PSA. I'm not boosting about it but out of 600 thousand cards I gave opinion on, 597 thousands came back exactly how PSA grading came back. It has nothing to do with junk cards or where they came from rather, it's the stock of the paper, fingerprints left on the card by collectors, centering of focused picture in the middle, bordering equal sides, print on the reverse of card is a big deal breaker ----> I have brand new 2024 Topps Heritage and, series 2 cards that are somewhat unreadable or a few letters being off set print, I pulled these out of bought jumbo, hobby, monster boxes directly bought from Topps and, I used gloves to keep my finger prints off them, guess what? I have a super hard find Elly rookie card autographed foil board I thought was a 5, graded by PSA and got a 6.5, got more better but, close to expectations though. The new Topps 2024 Heritage are worse because some print cannot be read, pretty awful considering brand new cards, some rares but, won't ever grade above a 3 by PSA so, it makes no difference where you get cards. I think sending it in a different grading company will not change as much as you might think? Again, any grader is going to use a magnify glass looking for fingerprints and, the reverse print on a card makes a difference. It's not our fault when a big card maker like Topps has unreadable print but, need to understand the grading company grading cards because who wants a card that cannot be read on the reverse side?
@@arthurmabeejr8752 appreciate the comment, although I cracked an regraded that Jordan all star with SGC and it got an 8.5 so I still feel like they grade Jordan cards too harshly. Thanks for watching!
@@generationhoops yes, that is a good thing. The grading system can vary but, overall it's usually 1 to 2 points difference. Let me ask you something.....How is the lettering on the reverse side of the card, also get a good magnify glass and, look for fingerprints on the front and, reverse? I have over 1,500 Heritage 2024 baseball cards bought directly from Topps, no finger prints because I used gloves however, the reverse print on these are awful, not my fault. How would you feel you bought 1 of these from me, PSA grade 10 but, you try to read the print even with a magnify glass and can't quite read the print? This to me is not a very collectible card, right? This is why I quit buying from Topps, voiced my complaints but, Topps never admitted to help me or even offered a suggestion, most companies would have sent a replacement for my purchase, right? I agree Jordan cards are judge very harshly, in particular today because these Jordan cards are on the higher end market value now. The one difference I always said: it's more exciting to watch a good basketball game than it is to watch a good baseball game, my card collecting will always be baseball though.👍👍👍
In my opinion PSA can no longer be trusted. They don’t grade on the card alone, which is unacceptable. When you can’t make any sense of the grading, it’s a problem. I’ve switched grading back to BSG, and couldn’t be happier. When I send a card that I would grade an 8, it comes back as an 8. When I send a card that I think is a gem, it comes back a 10, or maybe a 9. No surprises
I’ve thought about giving BGS a try. I’m definitely cracking a few slabs at some point and I think that is where I will be sending them. I appreciate you turning in!
Dang....just send me money for my businesses and I'll get you 2x-10x every time. Or do it with your own businesses. Money goes further when betting on yourself or others that have a simple, yet successful product or service.
The one thing that PSA doesn't do is contact you about a card that is being returned/ or to change the grading preference. Hope your listening PSA - this wastes time in returning a card and then resubmitting it to grade. CGC is a good grading CO to deal with.
Its very frustrating bro, my opinion PSA has gone down hill on grading. Its pretty much get the card graded quickly and move on. Tell me what are the odds of me sending in 41 cards and everyone received a PSA 9. I'm not fabricating at all, not one 10 or 8 in my whole order.
Are you checking with a magnifying glass, the corners, front and back? And back surface and centering ? Edges . I keep hearing you talk about centering and it’s a lot more than that and you can save yourself some cash buy really Looking over the card correctly and wiping down any fingerprints or smudging . Good luck on your next sub . I had a hard time my first 2 submissions now I only get 10s and 9s because I know what to look for . The sharpest corner with the naked eye could really look messed up under a good magnifying glass. I use the magnify glass that PSA USES AND THAT HAS BEEN A GAME CHANGER . And not touching the cards with your bare hands and if you do you need to wipe them down and there is lots of videos that can teach you things but I believe you need to watch as many videos as possible because not everybody has all the answers and I believe after doing this for two years now I’m a pro at knowing if it will hit a 10 . But not going to lie PSA SOMETIMES DOES POP Control because I have cracked 9s and sent them back in and got 10s . Like I’ll crack 4 9s of the same card and 2 will come back as a 10 and 2 will come back as 9s crazy .I know this is 9 months old and wondering if you have figured it out already?
I have gotten better with my submissions. I will say that I will probably at some point crack some slabs from this submission and send them to TAG to see what happens. Thanks for watching and I appreciate the comment for sure!
Before sending old wax in they must be cleaned and searched for surface scratches, they are using new machines and lighting so they detect more surface problems than 5 years ago, much tougher to grade with todays standards.
I would not send anything pre-2010 to PSA right now. They are not grading vintage cards the way they should be from what I've seen over a multitude of reveal videos and personal experience. They had a hiring frenzy due to the influx of cards from the Pandemic and it's a bunch of kids that don't know 80's-90's cards. A lot of horror stories coming out about grades from this era. I got a 7 on a 96 Fleer Kobe that has zero issuess (I was hoping for a 10, but expecting a 9 due to a one nearly microscopic edge chip.
@@joshosmer2828 I also send to SGC. BGS has kind of ticked me off with some slab quality issues lately, though personally I like the subgrades so you know what the 'issue' was with the card. SGC is consistent and I respect their grading on vintage cards.
Crazy I sent in 15 cards to PSA 13 1975 Bert Blyleven and 2 1971 Bert Blyleven all came back as 6. Even with the naked eye you knew that coming back all graded a 6 is crazy. Absolutely ridiculous.
not a fan of grading like psa who manipulate the market to much b.s. and bad behind door business i do here good stuff about sgc tho.also use a magnify glass make sure the corners look sharp and the surface is clean center and the edges look clean for a better grade
As somebody who sent in hundreds upon hundreds of older cards prior to the pandemic and as somebody who interviewed to be a card grader at PSA and worked in their dungeon for 3 Days grading cards, I would say that you discount corner wear WAY too much. You had a couple cards that that got 6'S that I agree one 6 that I called out as a 5 so you got a generous grade on that. You also need to look for print imperfections like dots or snow. If there's one tiny print dot on the front or the back you will not get a 10. You should zoom in on the corners more closely. Cards with borders that aren't White also grade lower because you can see chipping on the edges more readily. Add a tiny touch of wear on the corner of a non-white bordered card shows up and stands out.
I'd say PSA grades pre-2000 more harshly than they do ultra modern stuff, particularly centering. When you're getting back 6s, there's a surface issue. On that 1989 Hoops All-Star Jordan, I thought I saw a horizontal fingernail mark on the front left, but it's hard to say because you didn't show the card on camera long enough to evaluate it. The two 1991 Hoops Jordans were off center left to right (fat on the left) and there is a fisheye (small circular print defect) in the bottom right of the red, white, blue banner at the top of the card where it says Jordan's name and 1992 USA Basketball Team. The 1990 Hoops Jordan is off center top to bottom by a lot. Also, there's a red fisheye near his head. The two 1990 Skybox Jordans were off center. The first one you showed (an 8) also had a white corner (top left). Junk wax is my favorite stuff to open and grade.
The hard part with junk wax is the basic matte finish on the front. You need to hold that card at every angle possible looking for minor surface scratches, I'm talking tiny. They'll find them so do your homework before submitting junk wax of any kind.
Man. There are resources available to help you if you want to get better at ballparking a grade. I can’t tell the difference between a 9 and a 10 really but I’ve sent in maybe 20 cards….one 8, 4-5 9’s and the rest 10s. There are a lot of cards I just don’t send in because of obvious issues. Your cards and money, but for any cards even close to modern an 8 and below is kind of the same price as raw. You could save a bit of money.
Totally agree with Frosty Feet Cards comment below. Grading standards apply to both front and back of cards. Can't comment on these grades without seeing the back of the card and looking at the card with a magnify lens. Corners, edges (chipping), centering, surface (scratches, print lines, print errors), card focus (is it out of register), vivid color (damage by UV), all play into a cards grade. Hard to see problems with cards that have white borders unless you use an eye piece or magnify lens to examine the corners and edges. Most problems with cards are not viewable with the naked eye. PSA grades your cards looking at the card under magnification and that is what you need to do to understand the grade assigned to your cards. People need to stop whining and complaining about the grades assigned to your reveals and start looking at the grades (under magnification) from the same perspective as the card graders. That unfortunately is where most of the disconnect is in this hobby. Once you learn to look for the same things the card graders look for under magnification you can filter your submissions and start to get much better results on your reveals. I am speaking in general and there are always exceptions that can be addressed or discussed with PSA if you feel your card was mis-graded. For the most part PSA does a good job at assessing and assigning grades. That is why cards in a PSA holder in general sell at a premium.
Yeah and I’m also pretty sure one card got damaged along the way. I found a small crease on one of the low graded cards that I know wasn’t there when I sent it. Thanks for watching!
The people grading these cards collect them and if they give a 10 grade there card is worth less. You can have the exact same card with a nobody on it and it will get a 10. They are a no good p.o.s.!

Those Olympic Jordan’s look slightly off center left to right. I won’t be grading my junk wax nba with psa. Absolute waste. I’ll just buy the 8s and 9s already graded.
I can see the slightly off centered cards that you are calling centered. I'm generally a mid-60's to 1991 collector. 80% of the junk wax era cards you revealed, I would not have even sent it. Get stricter on your centering (50/50) for what you will submit and don't forget north/south centering counts too. perhaps pick up a cheap plastic card centering tool that you lay on top to measure.
Why sent in cards that are that off center? Really a waste of money if doing it for investment purposes. Also it takes alot more than centering to get a 10. I go over my cards countless times with a printers loope and pull 10s on a consistant basis reguardless of who the player is.
From my experience with PSA I think pop control is an urban legend. With all due respect those cards are much more condition sensitive is why the grading seems harsh. There's no gloss and surface imperfections are common in the older fleer. Kobe's specifically the Fleer and Fleer Ultra are incredibly difficult to find raw that will be in 10s because of the black backgrounds. Also check the backs of the cards as they tell an entirely different story to the whole card. My opinion is too carefully examine your 6's, 7's and 8's to start understanding the flaw threshold of each grade. It'll get better each time you do. I wish you the best and I know it can be frustrating but keep studying. Cheers!
@jeffh4644 And you can keep feeling that way. Conspiracy theories on low end sports cards is right up there with UFO's imo. But to each their own. My channel showcases flaws in cards for folks to try and get a clearer understanding on why their cards might have graded the way they have. then again, it's just my opinion. It doesn't make it fact.

2. Grading companies do not want to skew the pop. So I wouldn’t submit multiples of the same card or too many of the same player in a submission, especially GOATs like Jordan.
3. Be more critical of condition especially centering. Use a magnifier of some sort. Either a glass or your phone.
Best of luck
@@coldbloodedclowns6797 thanks for the advice and thank you for watching 👍🏻👍🏻
If psa is telling us not to send in junk wax for grading becuae they dont want to grade by grading thwm low. Then we should twll them we wont do business with them by sending them elsewhere.
I’m with you there, I’m most likely going to send some of my junk wax stuff to tag to see if the results are different. Thanks for watching!
I don't get PSA some times...makes me scared to send to them
Can you sell any of those and make the psa charge back?!
@@lockinglegacy9234 I did sell some and made a little profit, but trying to sell them today I would’ve definitely lost money. Thanks for watching!
I’ve done good with junk wax even hitting 10s but I prescreen my cards prior I use the shoebox app on iPhone
Lots of awesome slabs. New subscriber. You need to look at the card under a magnifying glass.

I noticed you’re not showing the back of the card on those 6s. Do you think that the back counts for nothing?
As you said cannot really be upset but, we can all learn something from one another, as a hobbyist that collected baseball cards since the 1960 era to today I'm 62 now. The one difference I always said: it's more exciting to watch a good basketball game than it is to watch a good baseball game, my card collecting will always be baseball though.👍👍👍
What did you pay? Did you pay 10 greaded peice?
This what a while ago but it was $15 or under per card.
How much do they charge to grade cards
I can’t remember the exact price per card at the time I sent these, but it was somewhere between $15-$18 a card. Thanks for watching!
@@generationhoops thank you 🙏🙏🙏
I have sent thousands of cards to psa. Have never gotten a 10 and 9s are rare. They usually end up 7 and 8s
Then you don’t know what your doing honestly. I have over an 65% gem rate. That’s including some stuff I know won’t gem in my orders.
Thousands and no 10? I stopped giving them money or re evaluate what youre doing wrong
Dang....just send me money for my businesses and I'll get you 2x-10x every time. Or do it with your own businesses. Money goes further when betting on yourself or others that have a simple, yet successful product or service.
Big Suns fan - Love the Dan Majerle card.
Definitely keeping pop count they keep da prime players with 8s & 9s Brin, mj,brady, montana, rice, kobe bird, magic, jeter, trout
Are you checking with a magnifying glass, the corners, front and back? And back surface and centering ? Edges . I keep hearing you talk about centering and it’s a lot more than that and you can save yourself some cash buy really
Looking over the card correctly and wiping down any fingerprints or smudging .
Tough times out in these card streets
You aren’t kidding there!
Do you send all your pre 2010 to BGS or SGC?
@@generationhoops SGC.
PSA doesn’t hate junk wax, your cards were graded on a day the dart landed on 7 or 8 was all. Submit again and hope it lands on 9 or 10 that day.
not a fan of grading like psa who manipulate the market to much b.s. and bad behind door business i do here good stuff about sgc tho.also use a magnify glass make sure the corners look sharp and the surface is clean center and the edges look clean for a better grade
It's in there best interest to not Grade a 10 because that would put alot of money in your pocket and not to mention bragging rights
True words there! Although I’ve done much better since this video. Thanks for watching!
Add a tiny touch of wear on the corner of a non-white bordered card shows up and stands out.
i have many 10s with print marks
@@ImOnlySIeeping for instance what?
And they should not...a cards a card....a grades a grade!
The hard part with junk wax is the basic matte finish on the front. You need to hold that card at every angle possible looking for minor surface scratches, I'm talking tiny. They'll find them so do your homework before submitting junk wax of any kind.
For sure! Thanks for watching and for the advice.
Some You thought were 10s because of being off-center it was a 9.. Not Bad..
I’ve learned never to send junkwax to PSA. Pointless, unfortunately.
@@GFTCNJ Truth! I guess I had to learn my lesson the hard way. Thanks for watching!

@@JEFFshyda hahaha thanks! I felt the same way!
Yeah this video was made over a year ago, now I tend to get much better results and I’m a lot more selective on what I send. Thanks for watching!
You can send them back and tell them there is nothing wrong and regrade them. But you Curry was off center I could see.
if u dont wipe the surface or look w a jewelry loop you will never see what they see
Totally agree with Frosty Feet Cards comment below.
Get yourself a magnifying glass And inspect your corners and edges
ID SEND TO ISA I DONT DO PSA ANYMORE .. ISA has 8 day turn around cheaper grading is fair and honest no bias unlike psa
Also ISA value has been going up I’ve sold a lamelo downtown at a card show and got 90% of psa value slabs are better too
No no no , resubmit they are living in a cup these days they taken all our money
You had a stricter grader this time around
Yeah and I’m also pretty sure one card got damaged along the way. I found a small crease on one of the low graded cards that I know wasn’t there when I sent it. Thanks for watching!
They are messing everybody over on these grades they are redickless
@@JeremyAsh-x1b yeah for sure! I actually regraded a handful of these a while ago and they came back with better grades. Thanks for watching!
Your looking at a 30 year old card what u expect. Wax cards are gonna be billionaires psa 10 are priceless
The people grading these cards collect them and if they give a 10 grade there card is worth less. You can have the exact same card with a nobody on it and it will get a 10. They are a no good p.o.s.!
I definitely understand why you feel that way. I’m kinda hoping that TAG gets more popular and puts the pressure on PSA so they are forced to be better. Thanks for watching!
i really dont like that whole psa controlling the pop reports thing. its unforgivable for me. people are paying you to grade cards keep it simple stupid because they arent getting a red cent of my money
My friend I'm just telling you from become someone who told me they just hired a whole new crew people after training they set them out on the floor 2 grade cards and unfortunately this is the results I have no idea why they would do that and not give them a trial run as an experiment have someone look over their shoulder to see how they're grading them I guess they're not doing that I saw a lot of parts and I looked at yours could have got nines on most but sixes and sevens horrible grading I feel bad for you
Thanks for the comment! I’m thinking of cracking and sending a few to BGS since I haven’t tried them before. Let’s hope PSA picks it up soon. Appreciate you watching the video!
Those Olympic Jordan’s look slightly off center left to right. I won’t be grading my junk wax nba with psa. Absolute waste. I’ll just buy the 8s and 9s already graded.
The MJ 89' all star looked good to me.

@@joshpitts25 yeah they need to be a lot more transparent at least. Thanks for watching!
Buying and grading cards is basically gambling, and the house always wins
Absolutely the truth. Thanks for watching!
They allow 55/45 to 60/40 on the front and 75/25 on the back for 10s. Read their grading standards.
SHOULD TITLE THE VIDEO " WHEN NEWBIES SEND CARDS TO PSA GRADING "
Yeah I was definitely more green back then, I’ve learned a lot since this video for sure.
Disappointing to see since this is most of what I have.
PSA is a silly game.
Why sent in cards that are that off center? Really a waste of money if doing it for investment purposes. Also it takes alot more than centering to get a 10. I go over my cards countless times with a printers loope and pull 10s on a consistant basis reguardless of who the player is.
Send in for a review
