  • At the National Business Aviation Association in June, the line to catch a glimpse of the new Gulfstream G650ER private jet was the largest of the conference. The "ER" stands for the updated "extended range" version of the luxurious G650. This highly anticipated $66.5 million aircraft is capable of flying nine-tenths the speed of sound and already has generated a waiting list winding into 2017.

    It's hilarious to me how a $66.5m jet in its default configuration still doesn't offer: (1) an actual private, dedicated bedroom; (2) a shower. I understand it can be kitted with those features but it's somewhat absurd that you have to go above and beyond the base configuration to get such basic (when you're spending that sort of money) amenities.

    • @ajetz2883
      @ajetz2883 7 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Most people who fly private do it for multiple reasons that overlook the cost.
      - Ability to fly when ever they have to, saving many hours of time per month
      - Privacy and hassle free environment
      - Ability to work - fly with colleagues/business partners and get a lot of work done during flight.
      so basically they value their time more than the extra $ it costs.

      When you're making the kind of primary and residual income needed to even consider this, the money isn't even a consideration. These are people who are worth billions. Quick exercise, if you have a billion invested in an index fund on January 1st that pays dividends, that first year you're making about $20 million on dividends alone, which will increase really fast. Broken down, that's about $2300 an hour. I'll skip the whole 3-4 hours of arriving early, going through security, finding my gate, waiting, pre boarding etc before take off, and the waiting to deplane, walking to baggage claim, and waiting for my bags and a ride if it means a little extra cash, which considering how valuable their time is means a minimum of $7-9000 over that time screwing about in an airport. That's not even getting to people like Bill Gates, who's time is literally worth $70k an hour. He'd actually be saving money on the plane.

    People forget to realize that companies buy private jets because it saves them money. In the US, any aircraft owned by a corporation must be able to prove it was used for business on each flight. Individuals are greedy. Companies are the stingiest entities out there. Companies are the large majority of business jet owners. Net Jet and Wheels Up exist because of the cost savings they create. LBrands has there own ferry service with CRJ200s for this very reason.

    In February 2019, an Argo shareholder issued a press release in which it alleged, among other things, the misuse of Argo assets by Watson, including undisclosed personal usage of corporate aircraft. On April 12, 2019, during a proxy contest with this shareholder in connection with Argo’s May 2019 annual shareholders meeting, Argo filed a definitive proxy statement that failed to disclose over $1 million worth of perquisites. From 2015 through 2019, Argo incorporated its definitive proxy statements into its annual reports by reference. From 2014 through 2018, Argo incorrectly recorded payments for the benefit of, and reimbursements to, Watson as business expenses, and not compensation. As a result, its books, records, and accounts did not, in reasonable detail, accurately and fairly reflect its disposition of assets. In addition, Argo failed to devise and maintain internal accounting controls relating to payments for the benefit of, and reimbursements to, Watson that were sufficient to provide reasonable assurances that transactions were recorded as necessary to maintain the accountability of assets. These failures included, for instance, a practice of providing expense reimbursements to Watson without requiring an adequate explanation of a business purpose for the expense, allowing Watson to approve his own expense reimbursement.
    Mr. Watson's Personal Chariot
    Make: Gulfstream: 5

    Serial Number: 518
    Lessor: Jetaway Air Service of Muskegon, MI

    Average Monthly Payment to Jetaway Air Services (based on recorded flight hours) $250,000 to $300,000 (the number does not include crew salaries, airport fees, insurance, and fuel) 4 to 5 million expensed to Argo shareholders each year for the exclusive use of Mark Watson's Personal Chariot - G5.

    Don't ever spill grape juice on your dads plane interior leather seat color almost white. I accidentally did in his new leer jet. The stewardess who works for my dads company tried to clean it and it made it worse. The seat had to be changed at an price I had to pay my dad. I took out a loan from him just to pay.

    What are the chances they hooked up that spaghetti mess of wires correctly...behind the dashboard? Easy enough to tell I guess once you've climbed to altitude.

      Labor cost for a unioned employee in The U.S. is about 60.00 an hour per worker. That's not how much they make, but it is how much it costs when you add in all of their expenses. On average, the unions mandate that at least 100 employees be on site at any given time. So right there you're looking at about 6,000 per hour to build the jet. Add in mandatory overtime, and there's your labor cost. A Roles Royce engine has a material cost of about 2mm dollars. However the labor cost is about 8mm. So the total cost during normal production cycles is about 10mm per engine.
