- Performed by the Doobie Brothers in HD with stunning sound quality.
Written by Tom Johnston and originally released in the 1996 double live album, "Rockin' Down the Highway: The Wildlife Concert".
The Doobie Brothers improved their playing by performing live all over Northern California in 1970. They attracted a particularly strong following among local chapters of the Hells Angels and got a recurring gig at one of the bikers' favorite venues, the Chateau Liberte' in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Lyrics follow:
Got those highway blues, can't you hear my motor runnin'?
Flyin' down the road with my foot on the floor
All the way in town they can hear me comin'
Ford's about to drop, she won't do no more.
And I smell my motor burnin'
Underneath the hood is smoke
Can't stop, and I can't stop
Got to keep movin' on or I'll lose my mind.
Oh, rockin' down the highway
Oh, rockin' down the highway
Oh, rockin' down the highway
Oh, rockin' down the highway.
The highway patrol got his eyes on me
I know what he's thinkin' and it ain't good
I'm movin' so fast he can barely see me
Gonna lose that man, I know I should.
I gotta kick in my pedal
Make my ford move a little bit faster
Can't stop, and I can't stop
Got to keep movin' on or I'll lose my mind.
Oh, rockin' down the highway
Oh, rockin' down the highway
Good you know that
Oh, rockin' down the highway
Oh, rockin' down the highway.
Oh, rockin' down the highway
Oh, rockin' down the highway
Oh, rockin' down the highway
Oh, rockin' down the highway. - เพลง
Great song, talent, music, performance!
So glad to have grown up with bands from this era and NOT the crap these days!
2010, middle age crazy so I bought a 2004 Mustang GT convertible, put my boys, 9 and 7 at the time, in the back top down and cranked the Doobies. This song comes on and my nine year old says “dad, this is a pretty cool song”. I smiled, life is good.
I use to Listen To The Doobie Brothers Every Time I Drove My 69 Barracuda To Work. Great Sound !
Have always loved the Doobies & this great tune and I was just wondering about how many poor suckers have been pulled over by the highway patrol while listening to this...
Tom Johnston We LOVE You
Only two bands I've seen multiple times since the '70's, the Eagles and the Doobie Brothers. They started every concert I saw with this song. Tight band.
I've seen them twice since becoming a fan in 1973. Probably the best band I've seen for sheer musicianship and with a great back catalogue of songs. Amazing band.
BEST HIGHWAY CRUISIN TUNE TOP 10 FOR SURE SAW THEM LIVE IN 73 AND 95 ROCK ON
Went to see them and Chicago with my daughter two days ago in Hartford, Connecticut. They are just like fine wine, they get better with age. Outstanding concert, we loved it. Long live the Doobies!
For almost 40 years this song makes me want to get on the highway, mash the gas pedal and do 100 mph and CRANK this music with the windows down !!!!! God bless the Doobie Brothers present past and future.
2 drummers and a percusionist....WOW
Forget to hit like button, enjoyin the music to much
They look and sound great! I'm impressed.
Was lucky enough to catch them at a concert, was not disappointed by a single song, they rocked the place.
would pay $1000 to see these guys.
These guys still make me wanna get up and dance, even in my sixties!
I've seen them so many times AND they never disappoint. The Doobie Brothers are amazing.
crank this up on your stereo, sit back and put your foot on the floor yippeeee!
Now that, is how you open a show!
Love the Doobie Brothers and this song. Thanks for posting this.
Great musicians sound great live as well as in the studio, and that's the Doobie Brothers! Love the addition of the horn section to this arrangement.

Just fab! A great tune and they play it today as well as when I first heard it! Iconic Tom Johnston!

O M G ! That Bass Player Is A Beast!!! The Doobies never sounded better!
The Bass is cooking!!
Man such an awesome group! I grew up in the 70's and my older brothers played music and performed a lot of their music. It was an era when a musician had to have the talent...technology did not exist to help you sing in tune or many other enhancements! I don't know when this song was written or first played but it was released on their "Double Live" album in 96. Thanks for posting this one, brings back good memories! Oh and Merry Christmas!
that band is tight
And that's with three percussionists, taking turns on lead guitar . . . lots going on. But they're pros.
One of the best American bands. Love these guys. Especially their "McDonald" period. Real artists, not just performers like most of the dorks in our contemporary pop music industry.
THAT'S MY GREAT UNCLE SINGING!!! **** YEAH!!!
I AGREE 100%
That Bass guitar is COOKIN"!!

Tom Johnson is amazing !
he really is
WOW!! Awesome song and group!!
I am working on a road trip playlist for the iPod and I TOTALLY forgot The Doobies. Now off to the store to see if I can get their greatest hits and add them....
Saw them in concert at this venue (Wolftrap in northern VA) in July. Wolftrap's a great venue to see any concert. They were excellent. Only thing that could have improved it would be if they didn't blow thru their first few (old) songs quite so quickly, and they played one or two more older songs rather than the newer songs. Still a great show, all in all. They can really play and sing, STILL - I love the Doobies, always have and always will......
I L♥VE SkyLark!!!!
Bass and rhythm guitars are dynamite!!
Saw them several years ago at PrairieMeadows Casino outside DesMoines..gs
Plein gaz sur la 20 du Québec!

un-fuckin real.. blows me away and takes me way back.. lets burn one and go see the statue of liberty
What about the bass player?
Good music, no doubt. Just a little sad to see our musical heroes shilling for alms so late in their years. Rock is meant to be played by the young...
Sorry brother but this song is a lot older then 96.
