    Welcome to another project teacup vlog! Here is a cozy, day in my life, writing vlog. I was a bit poorly in this one--betrayed by my own damn sinuses. I also answered a bunch of writing related questions as well within the vlog, so I hope you enjoy the Q&A segment as well on topics like what motivates me to be a writer and what makes me to most nervous about potentially one day seeing project teacup out in the world as a real book.

    Christy why don’t you self publish! I felt the same as you, my novels are my babies, and when the traditional publishers didn’t pick it up (sadly I think this is harder and harder as yrs go by due to current trends etc) but finally I came to the realisation that we are writing for ourselves, to share with family and friends it’s already SO amazing that there’s strangers out there who may buy our books- I’m sure you’d have so many interested in yours! Don’t give up 🙌🏻 also by self publishing you get full autonomy what you want to write about and share with the world!!❤

      I was wondering this too! Christy, I'd love to hear your thoughts about why you want to be traditionally published for fiction vs. self-publishing 'A Year in Tokyo'. Self-publishing so popular at the moment and I'd love to hear your voice in that discussion ❤️

      because self publishing is almost harder than tradpub. you have to do a lot of things on your own. and when you get tradpub, it forces you to improve, and you get to work with editors and agents and meet more writers. i'm not sure about her reasons but this is what i can think of.

    Does anyone have suggestions for other writing/book channels with a tone as positive as Christy’s? She’s got such a gift for talking about writing without fixating on flaws or getting judgmental. I love that she says a book “isn’t for her” instead of saying it’s bad. I just want a warm space to hear nice things about good books without tearing anything down. Suggestions?

    I'm getting traditionally published soon (albeit not fantasy, lit fic), and I would say don't worry about what people online say about 100,000 being the perfect word count and all these things people get very fanatical and weird about. There's no right length and no right plot, just good writing! I got told absolute min for getting picked up was 40k and mine barely scraped 30k and still got picked up. Good luck with the agent hunt!

    I recently discovered this channel, and I am in love with it and with you Christy.
    I am very interested in writing, though not on a professional level, but I do have my own creations/ideas
    Something I would find interesting, is a vlog of how you come to the ideas for your stories, shorts or large ones,
    how yodo u keep yourself motivated or what exercises you do to create characters or plots...
    I dont know if you have prompts or tips,
    I saw the video of journaling like VIRGINIA WOOLF and I saw that you started the figurative spin and the random word generator...
    I would love to know more about this, what do you do to create an idea or to evolve one when you get a writter block.
    PS: sorry for any gramatical mistakes, i am not an English native speaker.

      I chucked everything in a pot and eyeballed it! hahaha. But I suppose:
      1. put 1 big onion and a big clove of garlic into a pot and then cook them in some butter until they're brown and transluscent.
      2. Add 500g of frozen cauliflower, maybe 5 or 6 potatos, and two carrots, two cubes of stock dissolved in water, a bunch of pepper and italian seasoning, a cup and a bit of water, and then boil them all up until they're soft and, when they are, use an emulsion blender to mix.
      3. add a dash of milk (I used almond) and then add more water/milk until it's the consistency you like.
      Vegetable soup is so, so easy. I pay very little attention, chuck everything together and then just wait until it boils and mash it up 😅😅 Hope that was helpful 💛

    With everything you said about your book that you’d spent eight years on (and this is coming from a stranger who spent 10 years on a book and always feels deeply resonant about the topic), you may want to read some of Samantha Shannon’s interviews. Before working on The Mime Order, she had a very arduous relationship with a book that she eventually had to abandon. In the throes of my book breakup, reading what she had to say was very cathartic.

    question:how many pages do you put in a chapter, whenever it's in project teacup or in three years in Tokyo?
    great vlog, another one to add for my writing playlist to listen to as I write. By the way, in my book, Fallen, my main character is a strong female. I've just started chapter 11 and I have 31583 word count and 74 pages.

    • @christy-anne-jones
      @christy-anne-jones  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      For project teacup, it's normally about 2500 words per chapter! I don't use pages as a metric generally (because fonts, font sizes, margin sizes, etc. make it too inconsistent to be useful), however, I would guess that's about 10ish?
      A Year in Tokyo didn't really have chapters and it was half visual / half written, so I couldn't even tell you how many words per page hahaha 😅
      Good for you for getting to chapter 11!! Best of luck with your writing 💛

    Hello, I'd like to ask what your option is on writing a story that is at the same time released to an audience chapter(s) at a time. Would you ever try this method? It's true that it wouldn't allow for such storywide revisions and redrafts. Although it is still a method appreciated by some audiences is it not?
    Curious to hear anyones thoughts...

    • @christy-anne-jones
      @christy-anne-jones  ปีที่แล้ว

      Charles Dickens did that originally! I suppose it depends on what you want. I don't think you could sell it to a publisher if you'd already made the content widely available. And I think you would have a harder time making money from it. But if you had a platform and just wanted to put things out and share them, why not?

    • @GoldenThreads1
      @GoldenThreads1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@christy-anne-jones I am not actually a writer first and foremost, I work in another artistic field but feel writting a story could add a lot to my proposal.
      My rational behind the segmented release method would be that I could continually market the same story over a very long period of time along with my other work as it comes out. Even at releasing chapter 20 you could be referring people back to any of the previous chapters as well... If there's a pay wall in front of all of it, then maybe there'd be revenue in that after all.
      Plus I'm notorious for unfinished projects... the whole story at once would be far too dangerous. If it did even get done it'd be at the expense of my regular work so... That isn't realistic for me.
      I did want to take the time to see what you'd say though.
      Thank you in that.
