- Hi guys! here's a writing vlog of a regular working day for me, going through my day job as a graphic designer before I can finally get some work done on my novel - the un glamour reality of a day in the life of a writer with a full time job!

So nice to find writers with other full time jobs. It’s nice to know I’m not alone.

I loved seeing someone else who works full time working on their novel in the evening. I am a single mom with two autistic teens, so by the time I get home, get the dogs walked, feed the kids, and get ready to work it is 8 p.m. or later. I do write until about midnight though, so if I know what I am doing ahead of time, those 4 hours can be extremely productive. I have to get up at 5 a.m. so I don't like working past midnight. Your book sounds so fun!
yeah I totally get that, if I have a "plan" ready or some semblant of outline or idea of where I'm going then I find it ok to writer after work, but if I don't then I find it super hard!
@@malintries I hear you. I'm in the developmental edit stage of my first in a fantasy series, so I know how that can either flow, or not, lol. Aside from the dogs, I do find it hard to type when my cats are jealous and want to sit on my keyboard. Finding balance between family (including pets!) and writing time is hard. One thing that helps is that I am a high school teacher and I teach one college class at night. Having my plans done up for the full week during planning every day allows me to not have to take work home with me. It took me years to make the decision to not bring work home from work, but I need my time for my life too and what makes me happy too.
I could never write and listen to an audiobook at the same time. Music without lyrics is my go-to. Hat's off to you!
Haha no i'm working on my day job in this vlog while I listen to the audiobook, which is graphic design stuff so no writing involved!! I would just end up writing the words I listen to if I did that 😂

Omg! We have very similar routines. Full time WFH from 9-5. A pup who likes his dinner at 5pm followed by a walk. Writing in the morning or in the evening, interspersed with eating, exercise and 'filling the well'. WIP is a six book middle grade series. Yess I really wanted to make that video because there's definitely more of us out there who have similar routines and journeys!! And thank you so much i'm gonna attempt it for the very first time as a bit less of a chaotic November for once! 😁 Good luck with it too if you are as well!
I feel this in my soul. I work as an admin type Insurance Building role, have two kids and then write when I can. I've been writing my novel for three years and working on my last edits too. I do occasional VLOGs of writing, life and other hobbies. It's a bit chaotic. You are very blessed to be able to work from home.
💯 When I started writing I was full time in an office and it was definitely harder to find the time, and mostly the energy after the commute home!

This was me for the longest time. I quit construction in 2020 to pursue this full time. Whether or not it will bear fruit remains to be seen.
I hope it does! I do have the privilege of a job that allows me to be home and do things around it quite easily, if I have down time at lunch etc, which I guess is much harder if you're, say on a construction site! Best of luck to you!

balancing writing and day time responsibilities is difficult. There are days where I get home and finish my work, but then feel too mentally tired to write, so sometimes i try to write before early in the morning. OoooO Legends and Lattes! I've heard of it, and I don't know if it's something that I'd like, but i want to give it a try! 💝Finishing the final round of developmental edits sounds so exciting! i'm here on my first round and have sooommee way to go lol 😅i hope your edits goes smoothly!!
I realised I genuinely enjoy the dev edits when i'm excited by a project, it's the line edits i'm struggling so much with Hahaha

I tend to modify things like colours, add in moodboards etc to make it feel more like mine, but this is the og one!

Hi hi ! I do not haha, if you look up Justin McLachlan he's the one who made the nano tracker i'm using, except I modified it for my needs and made it look prettier for my own preference lol 😂 I hope that helps!

Lots of American books and shows feature underage drinking in bars. It’s also apart of reality. I dislike editors that confuses what they want to believe, with reality. Your voice is tainted with someone else’s biases.
